Abstract

ABSTRACT Whitening cream is a mix of chemicals which whiten skin or bleach black fleck on the skin. The use of Mercury in whitening cream effects many things, such as skin color changes, and at the end cause black flecks, allergy, and irritation. The use of high dose cause permanent brain damage and cancer. The objectives of this research were to identify and determine Mercury (Hg) in some whitening creams marketed in Manado City.Sample of whitening cream were 10 samples.Identification of Mercury using color test, and Cold Vapour-Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (CVAAS). The results shows that five samples contains Mercury (Hg)0,0004 ppm, 0,0003 ppm, 0,0006 ppm, 0,0004 ppm, and 0,0005 ppmwithin ten samples analysis. Key words : Whitening cream, Mercury, CV-AAS (Cold Vapour Atomic AbsorbtionSpectrophotometry).

Abstract

ABSTRACK Tofu is a food made by coagulating soy juice and then pressing the resulting curds into soft white blocks. The use of food additive in food process needs to be aware. Borax were restricted to be used, it cause brain damage, liver, and kidney. Prolonged use may cause death. The objectives of this research was to find out the presence of borax in tofu which produced in Manado city. Investigated tofu were sample A (Bahu), B (Batukota I), C (Batukota II), D (Kleak), and E (Pakowa). Borax were evaluated by flame test, curcuma paper color test, turmeric color test and spectrophotometry UV-vis. The results shows that there were five samples that did not contains borax using flame test, curcuma paper test, turmeric paper test and Spectrophotometry UV-Vis analysis.   Key words : Borax, Tofu, Qualitative analysis, Spectrophotometry UV-Vis, Manado.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the acute toxicity Lethal Dose50 of red aibika (Abelmoschus Manihot L.) leaves extract against white males rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) wistar strain. The method used was controlled group post-test only design. Subject were white male white rats with a total of 20 and divided into 5 groups: namely group 1 as a positive control, group 2 was treated 40% red aibeka leaf extract, g, group 3 was treated 60% red aibeka leaf extract, , group 4 was treated 80% red aibeka leaf extract, and , group 5 was treated 100% red aibeka leaf extract,. Data was recorded when there was a death in rats after a given treatment. LD50 calculation formula according to Thomson and Weil Method to calculate the LD50 value of red aibeka leaf extract. The results showed that mortality in the entire group 4 and 5 of tested animal occurred after treatment with LD50 values of 6,25 g/KgBB. It can be concluded that the leaf extracts of red aibika slightly toxic to the male white rat wistar strain. Keywords: Abelmoschus Manihot L., Red aibika, Acute Toxicity Test, Lethal Dose 50 (LD50).

Abstract

ABSTRACT   The salty ketchup is one of the food additives commonly added to food. The purpose of this study was to identily and determine levels of use of benzoic acid compound as a preservative in salty ketchup turn in Manado. The samples used were four different ketchup brands produced locally in Manado. Sample identification is done by extracting the sample using diethyl ether solvent. Ether was evaporated to obtain dried ketchup extract. The extracted residue was reacted with 5 % FeCl3 resulting in brown precipitate which proves that it contains benzoic acid. Determination of the preservative (benzoic acid) was determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that four samples of ketchup used benzoic acid as a preservative. Using preservative not weather threshold set out in Decree PERMENKES RI No 722/MenKes/Per/IX/88.   Keywords : benzoate, ketchup, Manado, UV-Vis spectrophotometer.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine acute toxicity potency of mangosteen pericarp extract using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BST). This research was an experimental research using Post Test Only Control Group Design, using 250 larvaes as test subject which were divided into 5 groups. Each group contains 10 larvaes and each group was done by 5 replications. The test componen was mangosteen pericarp extract that given through the media which contains larvae as the animal test. The extract final concentration in media which contains larvae were 1000, 500, 200, 100 and 0 ppm as negative control. The result is against larvae that died 24 hours after component test was given. Through the data, LC 50 value of etanol extract of mangosteen rind was analyzed. The result shows that mangosteen rind extract on the media could kill larvae of Artemia salina. Prohibit analyzes shows that mangosteen extract LC50 value of mangosteen pericarp extract was 418 ppm. So the administering of rind extract of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) had acute toxicity potential against Artemia salina Leach larvae according to BST method.   Keywords : Garcinia mangostana L. pericarp, brine shrimp lethality test, acute toxicity

Abstract

ABSTRACT Inflamation is a protective response of body from injury of cell.Edema is an indication of inflammation.Pumpkin pericarp contains of flavonoid which has potency to decrease edema. The aims of this research were to study antiinflamation effect of ethanolic extract of pumpkin pericarp (Cucurbita moschata D.) with concentration 5, 10 and 20%on edema of white rat legs strain wistar. The subjects in this research were 15 white male rat strain wistar which divided into 5 groups, namely negative control (CMC),  positive control (Piroksikam) and extract group with concentration 5, 10 and 20%.Induction of 5% of chicken albumin on rats left leg lead to edema formation, followed with induction of CMC, Piroksikam solution and extractper oral. Measurement of edema volume was done using plestimometer, and observation of edema were made every 6 hours. The result shows that there were significant administration effects of pumpkin pericarp extract with concentration 5 and 10%. As a conclusion, ethanol extract of pumpkin pericarp exhibit potency to decrease edema.
