Abstract

Normal aging process, acute illness, worsening chronic illness, and hospitalization can contribute to a decline in the ability of the older adults to perform task necessary to live independently. One of the best way to evaluate the health status of the elderly is through functional assessment which provides data that may indicate future decline allowing the nurse and their primary care giver to intervene appropriately. This study was conducted to assess the functional capacity of the elderly living at San Fabian, Echague, Isabela. The Descriptive-Inferential design was used. A total of 107 respondents with a mean age of 70.26, majority are female (52.3%), married (62.6%), and obtained college education 29.9% and 10.3% are graduate and undergraduate respectively. 43% receives pension. Respondents and significant others were interviewed using a 3-point Likert scale. On the level of functional capacity, researcher found out that the elderly are independent in performing BADL and need assistance in performing of IADL such as ability to use phone, shopping, performing heavy domestic works, laundry, taking medication in correct time and handling of finances. Age has a negative significant relationship with their ability to perform both the BADL and IADL and there is a difference between gender and source of income and their ability to perform IADL. The study also shows a significant relationship between the respondent’s marital status and their education with their ability to do IADL. Keywords: functional capacity; elderly; assessment

Abstract

Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is one of the direct causes of maternal mortality with the highest percentage. Postpartum hemorrhage is the bleeding that occurs due to the blood loss of 500 ml or more from the reproductive organs after labor. The objective of this present research was to understand the characteristics of mothers before and during pregnancy that induce postpartum hemorrhage in Surabaya. The research method employed was a control case design consisting of 180 postpartum mothers, being analyzed using a multinomial logistic regression. The research was conducted in Soewandi Hospital and Haji Hospital Surabaya. The research results revealed that characteristics of mothers before pregnancy causing the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage were as follows: a) Age < 20 and > 35 (66.7%), b) multi-parity (61.14%), pregnancy spacing ≤ 24 months (70.4%), d) possessing postpartum hemorrhage history (93.3%) and e) suffering from anemia (80.8%). Characteristics of mothers during pregnancy were among others : Double pregnancy (71.4%), preeclampsia (79.5%) and obesity (70.6%). It is expected that the cadres of health staffs recognize the characteristics of these mothers and are able to detect earlier any postpartum hemorrhage that occurs to pregnant women so that earlier prevention actions may be taken. Abstract

The success of improving the quality of human resources through education can be realized, one of which is through the accuracy of the learning process in achieving learning objectives, one of the government's efforts to improve the quality of education in Indonesia is to improve the curriculum from teacher centered learning to student centered learning by using the contextual method. teaching learning model problem based instructor. In essence, using this learning method where students can relate the content of the lesson to the surrounding environment or the real world so that it makes lessons more meaningful and can increase motivation to learn. The success of this method is strongly influenced by the structural stages contained in the PBI CTL model method. Measuring the ability of students with a pre-test in making Askep who got the PBI model of CTL learning, measuring the ability of students with the pre-test in making Askep who did not get the PBI model of CTL learning, measuring the ability of students with the post-test in making Askep who got the PBI CTL learning model, measuring the ability of students by post-test in making Askep who did not get the PBI model of CTL learning. Type of research is quantitative with a quasi experimental design (quasi-experimental), pre-test and post-test approaches with control group . The sample technique with a total sampling is 80 students DIII nursing study program Trenggalek. The instruments used were the nursing care format and the PBI model CTL module. The research results were tested by using paired sample t- test. The pre-test mean value of the ability to make nursing care in the intervention group was 72.45 and in the control group 68.03 while the average posttest score using the PBI model CTL method in the intervention group was 81.48 and in the control group 73.25. There is a significant effect of the PBI model of CTL method in improving the ability to make nursing care. Keywords: contextual teaching learning, problem based instructor, nursing care

Abstract

Trigeminal neuralgia is a condition that affects the trigeminal nerve, that manifests in a series of stabbing like pain, and often described like electricity. Its treatment guideline is to prioritize pharmacotherapy until patient is well. The gold standard treatment for trigeminal neuralgia is pharmacotherapy of Carbamazepine. However, carbamazepine is proven to cause allergic reaction to some patients. This research aims to describe the pharmacotherapy that is given to patients. The regiments of pharmacotherapy in trigeminal neuralgia shows that CBZ is the main pharmacotherapy given, as it is the gold standard treatment. GBP is the is the second most pharmacotherapy given and a concoction medication of Paracetamol, Diazepam and Amitriptyline being the third most favored therapy. Neurotropic B Vitamins plays a big role, as a support in the therapy to maintain the health of the overall nervous system. The pain scale data shows that almost all patients have significant pain relieve. The therapy of trigeminal neuralgia in this study shows that CBZ is most favored as it is the gold standard, however not all AEDs are accessible. Almost all patients have significant pain relieve eventhough not using gold standard treatment. Keywords: trigeminal neuralgia; pharmacotherapy
