Abstract

For channel codes in communication systems, an efficient algorithm that controls error is proposed. It is an algorithm for soft decision decoding of block codes. The sufficient conditions to obtain the optimum decoding are deduced so that the efficient method which explores candidate code words can be presented. The information vector of signal space codes has isomorphic coherence. The path metric in the coded demodulator is the selected components of scaled regions. The carrier decision is derived by the normalized metric of synchronized space. An efficient algorithm is proposed based on the method. The algorithm finds out a group of candidate code words, in which the most likely one is chosen as a decoding result. The algorithm reduces the complexity, which is the number of candidate code words. It also increases the probability that the correct code word is included in the candidate code words. It is shown that both the error probability and the complexity are reduced. The positions of the first hard-decision decoded errors and the positions of the unreliable bits are carefully examined. From this examination, the candidate codewords are efficiently searched for. The aim of this paper is to reduce the required number of hard-decision decoding and to lower the block error probability.

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this paper has been to determine quantitatively the presence of some heavy metals (Fe, Cu and Zn) which are of particular importance for the wine quality and human health. A total of 41 samples have been analyzed during different stages of winemaking. Methods: The determination of heavy metals is done by analytical technique known as Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAAS). The limit set by the EU directive EC 606/2009 and International Office of Vine and Wine (OIV) has been taken as reference values. Results and Discussion: None of the analyzed samples has exceeded the limits set by the EU and OIV, excluding the type of white wine known as Rhine Riesling. In this sample the Cu concentration exceeds several times the permissible values. Findings: It has been observed that heavy metals immediately after the alcoholic fermentation process probably continue to remain even for a while in the upper part until wine sediment forms at the bottom of the tank. A higher concentration of heavy metals was observed in the samples taken from the bottom of the wine tank. Abstract

The major purpose of this paper is to determine the opportunities and challenges relating to successful innovation management in SMEs in German and Slovakia. The objective and the subjective stances to research comprise three interlinking philosophies: epistemology, ontology and axiology. For this study the major design elements are the explanatory and the exploratory approaches and a case study is the selected research strategy. In order to answer the research problem, numerical and textual data is gathered. The empirical research studies revealed significant cultural influence on innovation management and related organisational change associated with it. It also highlighted substantial differences between success and failure factors in SMEs and large companies and there were implications that formal innovation management was less important from SMEs than for large companies. This research identified key innovation management success factors for SMEs and made three new findings, which add to the current knowledge: innovation circles were an effective innovation management approach to generating and developing ideas and getting innovation to market quickly; government agencies that encourage firms to collaborate effectively enhance the level and success of innovation; SMEs and large companies have distinctly different rankings of barriers to innovation and small and micro firms are more effective in original product innovation and speed to market than medium sized companies.

Abstract

Coping with demanding situations is a part of managerial work at different levels and in different contexts. In the presented paper, based on the theoretical and methodological analysis of knowledge in the field of coping and special coping with demanding situations in project manager work, we present the results and knowledge related to the possibility of researching and identifying procedures for coping with demanding situations in project management. Attention is focused on the identification of ways of coping with demanding situations in project manager work through the BSMW Questionnaire - Behaviour Strategies in Managerial Work as a tool for identifying these procedures. We present findings related to the analysis of the assessment of strategies for managing demanding situations in project manager work in Slovak automotive industry in the context of selected personality, socio-demographic characteristics of managers and situational conditions. The acquired results verified the meaningfulness of the empirical-inductive principle of detecting the ways of coping with the examined demanding situations and determining the taxonomy of these principles with the specification of five factors – emotional factor of coping, cognitive factor of coping I, cognitive factor of coping II, behavioural factor of coping I and behavioural factor of coping II. From the methodological viewpoint our results contribute to the discussion about the interactional approach in research in social sciences and about the question of dispositional or situational conception of methods of researching in this area of knowledge. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2020-01241 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The article presents a comparative analysis of maturity level in Industry 4.0, of Brazilian companies with German Industry, seeking to identify learning opportunities to increase competitiveness. It was used the maturity model in Industry 4.0 developed by VDMA (German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association), applied to German companies, serving as benchmark. The same model was applied to Brazilian companies, from the State of Espírito Santo, located in the most developed region of the country, but with lower industrial density, and which has great challenges to increase its participation in the national and international markets. A field research was carried out with 46 industries, which participated in workshops to understand the fundamentals and to evaluate the maturity level in Industry 4.0. The individual results were processed by the platform of VDMA, indicating the levels in six dimensions of the model and the general result on a scale of 0 to 5. The results of all companies were tabulated, allowing the comparison with the research carried out with German companies. The study showed that, on average, Brazilian companies have the same level of maturity of German companies in readiness for Industry 4.0, with grade 0.9 in a scale of 0 to 5. But, there are significant differences in compared dimensions. 5.6% of German companies are at the advanced level in Industry 4.0, especially the technology developers, while Brazilian companies studied are still at the most basic levels. Both Industries are skeptical about investments in Industry 4.0 and the level of evaluation on Strategy dimension is still low. The comparison of expectations and difficulties allowed identify essential points to support these companies to follow the way to Industry 4.0.

Abstract

The article deals with the service life of torsion bars in tracked vehicles. The aim of the article is to show the suitability of accelerated tests and modelling for determining the service life of torsion bars, which takes many years in real operation. The design of a test bench for accelerated tests is presented together with limiting conditions, which were afterwards verified. Subsequently, a virtual model of the torsion bar of a tracked vehicle was created with the help of finite elements. Dynamic modelling was performed by MSC Adams software with a module using finite elements. Furthermore, the article shows the possibility of using the Monte Carlo method to determine the service life of torsion bars of tracked vehicles. The Monte Carlo utility of Accelerated Life Testing Analysis (ALTA) software is used to obtain failure data at specified test stress levels. Using the Monte Carlo simulation, one data set is generated containing values that are arranged in dependence on the specific lifetime distribution of the Weibull distribution. Finally, a comparison of the experiment with the calculated values is performed. The results obtained can be used to compile an accelerated test plan. This modelling design saves a lot of money and time to determine the life of the torsion bar in tracked vehicles.

Abstract

In project planning, risk assessment method plays vital role. Poorly assessed project risks cause degeneration at project cost, project completion time, and project output quality and project scope. Each project activity risk influence these project success factors. Implementation performance of a project activity triggers or smooth of its successor’s activity risks. Because of this; employing robust and detailed risk assessment methods is important to reach those project goals. In project risk assessment literature, when it is investigated, it is noticed that risk assessment and evaluation methods are only developed at whole project level. Actually, they are not comprehensive enough to evaluate the project risks at activity level. Besides that traditional risk assessment methods such as risk matrix does not able analyze project risk quantitatively. With this motivation, main aim of this study is developing a multi-criteria based decision method which prioritizing project risks at activity level. AHP and TOPSIS method are combined to developed novel method. In this hybrid method, Constructing AHP model is to prioritize work packages with respect to relative importance of project time, project output quality and project cost. Broken down structure of these work packages are used as input for weighted criteria for TOPSIS method. In second layer of this decision method, TOPSIS model is used for prioritizing predetermined activity risks according weighted project work packages success criteria. In the application of this method, a case study approach is followed. In this sense, “Global Furniture Ltd.” which is established in Istanbul, Turkey is chosen as a case to apply newly developed model. Results showed that application of AHP-Stochastic TOPSIS Hybrid Algorithm provides a platform that project risks could be analyzed as quantitative and also at project activity level.

Abstract

Paper reviewing the use of TRIZ tools and methods in combination with other tools for better manufacturing and production processes improvement. A weakness of the current state of process improvement is mainly solving problems by trivial tools as Brainstorming, which leads to not ideal resolutions to problems in the process. This could be improved by the use of TRIZ. A literature review was used for examination of the current state and history of the use of TRIZ principles in a field of production processes. The review is chronologically structured and focuses on attempts to use TRIZ itself or in combination with other tools with a goal improvement of processes or activities related to the process. The research begins before the year 2000 and it ends by the year 2019. The use of TRIZ for process improvement was described by many authors, and many approaches were tried. From the results, it is seen that TRIZ methods should be beneficial for use in practice. Unfortunately, found solutions are either too complex or without specific descriptions. That could be a cause of why the implementation of TRIZ tools is not spread. Results of review lead to a need for a new, more user-friendly approach based on TRIZ principles for use by engineers in real practice.
