Abstract

In this paper, an analytical three-dimensional (3D) bending characteristic of an isotropic rectangular thick plate with all edges simply supported (SSSS) and carrying uniformly distributed transverse load using the energy technique is presented. The three-dimensional constitutive relations which involves six stress components were used in the established, refined shear deformation theory to obtain a total potential energy functional. This theory obviates application of the shear correction factors for the solution to the problem. The governing equation of a thick plate was obtained by minimizing the total potential energy functional with respect to the out of plane displacement. The deflection functions which are in form of trigonometric were obtained as the solution of the governing equation. These deflection functions which are the product of the coefficient of deflection and shape function of the plate were substituted back into the energy functional, thereafter a realistic formula for calculating the deflection and stresses were obtained through minimizations with respect to the rotations and deflection coefficients. The values of the deflections and stresses obtained herein were tabulated and compared with those of previous 3D plate theory, refined plate theories and, classical plate theory (CPT) accordingly. It was observed that the result obtained herein varied more with those of CPT and RPT by 25.39% and 21.09% for all span-to-thickness ratios respectively. Meanwhile, the recorded percentage differences are as close as 7.17% for all span-to-thickness ratios, when compared with three dimensional plate analysis. Abstract

Viral marketing is one of the most effective and imperative marketing strategies. The prominence of digital technology and social media has elevated the importance of viral marketing campaigns by increasing their cost efficiency and enabling them to reach targeted audiences rapidly. This study aimed to examine the influence of viral marketing strategies on brand recognition and brand preference by developing a framework for the effectiveness of viral marketing (7I’s) in social media contexts and testing the associations among the 7I’s, brand recognition and brand preference. A quantitative research method with a structured questionnaire as the research tool was employed to collect data from a total of 286 respondents in Thailand. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was utilized to test the proposed hypotheses. The results showed that effective viral marketing relates positively to brand recognition (b = 0.440) and preference (b = 0.298). The mediation analysis also revealed that brand recognition partially mediates the relationship between effective viral marketing and brand preference. In terms of the moderating effects, the results indicated a stronger influence for effective viral marketing on brand preference among younger respondents (b = 0.336) than among older respondents (b = 0.278). Abstract

The absence of an evaluation model that can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of educational activities at vocational universities in the view of six domains causes the need to find innovations in an evaluation model. The six domains, included: context, input, socialization process, implementation process, results, and imbalances that occur in the learning implementation. An evaluation model innovation was initiated through this research in the form of a modification of two educational evaluation models. Those models are CSE-UCLA and Discrepancy. Based on those conditions, the main objective of this research was to demonstrate the existence of a new evaluation model design in education which was a modification of the CSE-UCLA evaluation model and the Discrepancy evaluation model. Specifically, this evaluation model design can be used to determine the effectiveness of the one education activity namely the synchronous learning implementation at vocational universities. The research method used to achieve the objectives of this research was the development method by the Borg and Gall model development design. Five stages of development become the focus of this research, included: research and field data collection, research planning, design development, initial trials, and main product revision. The location of this research was conducted in several vocational universities in the North Bali area (Indonesia). Subjects involved in the initial trials toward this evaluation model design were 20 people. The tools used to conduct the initial trials were questionnaires. The technique used to analyze the data of initial trial results was descriptive quantitative by comparing the percentage of the initial trial results with the standard percentage of the effectiveness level of modified model design. This research results indicate that the evaluation model design was categorized as effective by an effectiveness level was 81.93%. The implication of this research results was the existence of a new design of the educational evaluation model. Abstract

The growth of metropolises and the number of vehicles cruising within their boundaries creates a permanent problem of dissatisfaction with transport accessibility. This study aims to identify the difference between perceived (PA) and objective (OA) transport accessibility. For its implementation, it was necessary: to explore PA between different residential areas and travel modes, reveal the influence of the travel regime on the PA, compare the impact of social-demographic factors on the individuals' PA. The research methodology is based on a large cross-sectional study with 2,275 respondents. A quota sample was used for 12 administrative districts of the Moscow metropolis. The data was processed by IBM SPSS Statistics 20 statistical program to obtain descriptive statistics indicators. Correlation analysis of the respondent's answers to the four items for PA assessment was performed to assess the relationship between the results of the solutions. Next, a synthetic index of PA was calculated and analyzed differences using the integral index PA. The relationship significance was assessed using F-criterion-based one-way ANOVA. Abstract

The objective of this study was to modernize batik clothes, a cultural heritage of Southeast Asia, through creative design, color characterization, and collection presentation. Three community enterprises from the southern regions of Thailand participated in designing batik motifs based on their local identities. The pattern of the first manufacturer group was influenced by stones and ancient beads of vivid orange and blue shades. The second community was inspired by the nearby sea, resulting in ocean blue, white, and emerald green colors on batik fabrics. Floras in the south of Thailand dominated the design of the final manufacturer group. Smartphone colorimetry was then used to characterize the batik fabrics. It was demonstrated that this proposed color quantification was not confined to the laboratory, and could easily be carried out by vendors or customers. The collaboration encouraged local batik artisans to use a variety of inspirations, new tools, as well as professional design and production methods. To introduce modernized batik to the public, collections of these newly designed clothes were displayed in a fashion show staged under the theme “Southern Chic.” The presentation of Thai batik clothes in seasonal collections highlighted the transformations of local manufacturers and products with increasing appeal to younger people. Abstract

Recent years have seen significant growth in the adoption of smart home devices. It involves a Smart Home System for better visualisation and analysis with time series. However, there are a few challenges faced by the system developers, such as data quality or data anomaly issues. These anomalies can be due to technical or non-technical faults. It is essential to detect the non-technical fault as it might incur economic cost. In this study, the main objective is to overcome the challenge of training learning models in the case of an unlabelled dataset. Another important consideration is to train the model to be able to discriminate abnormal consumption from seasonal-based consumption. This paper proposes a system using unsupervised learning for Time-Series data in the smart home environment. Initially, the model collected data from the real-time scenario. Following seasonal-based features are generated from the time-domain, followed by feature reduction technique PCA to 2-dimension data. This data then passed through four known unsupervised learning models and was evaluated using the Excess Mass and Mass-Volume method. The results concluded that LOF tends to outperform in the case of detecting anomalies in electricity consumption. The proposed model was further evaluated by benchmark anomaly dataset, and it was also proved that the system could work with the different fields containing time-series data. The model will cluster data into anomalies and not. The developed anomaly detector will detect all anomalies as soon as possible, triggering real alarms in real-time for time-series data's energy consumption. Abstract

Climate change causes the spread of non-vector diseases due to the influence of climate uncertainty. The elderly group, which is vulnerable, is affected by such disasters. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to forecast epidemic peaks of food poisoning, which was found as one of the re-emerging diseases in elderly people in Khon Kaen Province, Maha Sarakham Province, and Roi Et Province, which are in the Northeastern region of Thailand by using 2 types of Grey Model: GM(1,1) and Discrete Grey Model (DGM). The monthly rate of food poisoning incidence per 100,000 elderly people from January 2017 to December 2020 i.e., 48 months in total were used in the study. The study result revealed that the DGM had higher forecasting effectiveness than that of the GM(1,1) in all three provinces. The food poisoning incidences in elderly people were forecasted to re-emerge from August to September 2021 in Khon Kaen Province, from August to September 2022 in Maha Sarakham Province, and from May to June 2022 in Roi Et Province. Abstract

Objective: The objectives of the study are to identify and categorize non-native students´ errors in the written summaries, to see which research instruments – the mobile reading app (experimental group) or internet-based article (control group) are more effective, and to determine if language proficiency of students will improve. Methods: This study uses an analysis of linguistic-stylistic errors as a research method on the written performance of 29 EFL Slovak students in 29 written summaries. Findings: The findings indicate that the most problematic areas in writing summaries were grammatical (determiners), followed by stylistic (text coherence, slang words, and punctuation), lexical (word collocations), and lexico-stylistic errors (prepositions). Overall, students´ proficiency in both groups rose from B2 to C1 level by 38% of the students (11 students). Therefore, both methods – the reading app and internet-based articles are effective. Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to detect and analyze some factors which hinder or contribute to the positive use of the Internet by older people living in Central Europe, specifically in one region of the Czech Republic. Methods: The key method is a questionnaire whose results were processed by using a model of logistic regression. The research sample includes 432 seniors from senior houses, municipal ICT courses and the University of the Third Age, all coming from the region of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic. Findings: The findings of the proposed model confirmed that the key determinants in the Internet use by older people were age, previous experience with IT in their past occupation and active use of IT enhanced by some kind of training, in this case attending IT courses of the University of the Third Age. Education and gender have not proved to be significant determinants in this study. Novelty/ improvement: The introduced model of logistic regression enriches current literature on the subject by emphasizing the possible factors that influence the use of the Internet by seniors in the region. Abstract

This paper proposes distribution network optimization with scattered generator integration using the immune-clonal selection (ICS) method. Nowadays, the high popularity of scattered generators (SG) has made distribution networks essential to manage appropriately. This interest is because SG is usually injected into the distribution network due to the ease of accessing the network and the voltage level of the distribution network, which is easier for SG to reach. However, the presence of SG as a distribution network is increasingly dynamic, so that appropriate techniques are needed to achieve adequate network performance through network optimization. The ICS method is expected to be the right solution for this task. The ICS technique was chosen for its excellence in accurately optimizing for multi-objectives while avoiding premature convergence to local minima. The ICS approach was applied to IEEE model distribution networks of 33-bus and 71-bus. The optimization results show that the effectiveness and superiority of the ICS method, which is indicated by shallow power losses with a better voltage profile, and the load balance on each feeder is maintained. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01312 Full Text: PDF
