Abstract

In 2022, through the state electricity company, the Indonesian government launched a pilot experiment to cut imports of liquefied petroleum gas by giving program packages to 1,000 families in five districts in Surakarta. Objectives: Using the technology readiness and acceptance model (TRAM), this study examined the elements influencing the readiness and acceptability of the induction stove program in Surakarta. Method/Analysis: The empirical findings from a 389-respondent survey showed that the program’s public acceptance was supported by favorable technological preparedness, including elements like innovation and optimism. Findings: Perceived use, enjoyment, usefulness, cost level, and confirmation were all factors that affected participants' happiness and willingness to continue using induction stoves and participating in the program. Interestingly, acceptability, general contentment, and the willingness to use induction stoves were not always affected by issues like discomfort and insecurity. Additionally, this research emphasized how crucial the social context is for successfully implementing a program and embracing new technologies. Novelty:This is the first study that concurrently identifies, assesses, and analyzes the integration of factors impacting technology readiness and acceptance (TRAM) into the community's intention to continue participating in the induction stove conversion program. These empirical results offer practical guidance for stakeholders in induction stove conversion projects, particularly in developing nations, and also add to a theoretical understanding of TRAM factors. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-04 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The objective of this study is to compare and underscore the advantages and disadvantages of learning English in non-English speaking countries to propose the concept of a new English teaching method for students from non-English speaking countries (the case of Russia, Spain, Serbia, and Indonesia). The study used a mixed-methods approach with qualitative analysis of literature from Russia, Serbia, Spain, and Indonesia, and a research questionnaire was developed. 1595 participants were recruited for a survey determining their experiences of learning English and students’ perspectives on English teaching methods in non-English speaking countries. The data went through thematic analysis in the qualitative part of the research and descriptive analysis in the quantitative survey-based design. Findings of the qualitative analysis revealed both advantages and disadvantages of teaching English to students in selected countries; however, the main findings reported the presence of cultural barriers and students finding it difficult to form meanings from the English language context. Conceptual thinking helped to understand the role of memory and comprehension when learning a foreign language, whereby research focuses on more novel concepts. Future researchers can focus on the area of neural development of students' memory, which can help guide strategies to teach the English language effectively. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-020 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The importance of organizational culture in the operation and performance of businesses has been widely acknowledged, but there is inconsistency in findings about the impact of culture on organizational performance across studies. This study aimed to achieve two objectives: first, to establish the relationship between the quality of accounting information systems (AIS), organizational culture, and the financial performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam; and second, to survey the organizational culture strategy of Vietnamese SMEs in the context of economic crises. The study survey was conducted in May 2023 and involved 242 SMEs in Vietnam. The research model was tested using Smart PLS. The results suggest that AIS has a positive relationship with both organizational culture and the financial performance of SMEs. However, organizational culture only affects financial performance related to organizational adaptability during a crisis. Moreover, a flexible, external adaptation, and balanced cultural approach strategy has a significant impact on the financial performance of SMEs. During a crisis, managers expect employees to adapt in order to achieve strategic goals and plans while simultaneously balancing stability, engagement, and employee satisfaction to achieve organizational effectiveness. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-015 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

This paper aims to determine and estimate the factors in the value chain that affect the efficiency of state-owned commercial banks in Vietnam. The study employs a combination of qualitative techniques, such as conducting interviews with top executives, financial managers, chief accountants, and employee surveys, along with quantitative methods like ordinary least squares analysis. The outcomes reveal four critical segments within the value chain – the retail department, operation department, back office, and call center – all of which significantly influence the efficiency of the banks. Additionally, drawing upon value chain theory and Porter's model (1985), the author underscores the significance of implementing a robust value chain strategy. This strategic approach has the potential to substantially enhance the competitive advantages of state-owned commercial banks in Vietnam. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-010 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The linkage between foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic development has been demonstrated in economic literature. In this study, we analyze the impact of FDI on economic development, considering the role of institutional quality in 63 provinces/cities in Vietnam in the period 2005–2022. Applying various regression methods, such as Pooled OLS, FEM, REM, GMM, and PVAR, the results confirm that foreign direct investment and institutional quality have a positive impact on economic development. Findings also provide evidence that institutional quality is an important factor in attracting FDI, determining both the quality and quantity of inflows from other countries into Vietnam. Some policy implications are given to promote the role of institutions and attract foreign direct investment, thereby promoting the economic development of provinces and cities in Vietnam. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-05 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

This study explored and measured the influence of corporation social responsibility (CSR) on consumers' re-purchase intentions through the mediators of brand identification and word of mouth (WOM). The quantitative method was applied in the research, and there were 287 valid respondents who had purchased something from the retailer store brands. The collected data was checked for reliability, convergence, and discriminant validity among the constructs before testing the hypothesis and the theoretical research model. In particular, the Cronbach alpha reliability, exploring factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and structural equation model (SEM) were used to analyze the research data under the support of SPSS and AMOS software. The results indicate that CSR has significant effects on brand identification, WOM, and consumers' re-purchase intentions. Brand identification has a positive impact on consumers' repurchase intentions, whereas WOM has not. The findings have significant contributions to the marketing theory and provide management implications for managers, especially in retail store brands. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-021 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Metaverse technology is one of the many technological breakthroughs in education, notably in the teaching and learning process in the classroom, especially since the COVID-19 epidemic. This study aims to investigate, model, and assess the potential adoption of metaverse technology from the viewpoint of BINUS University students. The study methodology that is employed is quantitative descriptive analysis. This research used Mozilla Hub's SPOKE to create the classroom simulation. Students are asked to use a laptop web browser and a Virtual Reality (VR) headset to replicate two scenarios from the metaverse realm. The variables used are comfort, convenience, compatibility, interest, and efficacy. The findings of this research indicate that a more significant number of participants, as much as 80% than fewer respondents (20%) were interested in employing VR (the Metaverse) for online teaching and learning using headsets. The novelty in this research is that academics can find out student behavior that they prefer to study using a VR headset compared to a regular laptop by opening a web browser. This can be a special note that the use of VR headsets in learning can increase interest in learning so that it is more effective in providing teaching material. Future work for this study is the application of this metaverse technology, which still requires work and development, as it still necessitates careful planning and consideration of a few factors, including security, infrastructure availability, and user comfort. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-016 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Based on a grounded theory approach to healthcare professionals’ experience, this study conducted a qualitative assessment of new opportunities and provided a conceptual justification of forward-looking trends of global health system efficiency improvement and resilience toward universal health in the post-COVID-19 era. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews, while theoretical saturation was reached after 20 interviews with international experts in Global Health System Resilience (psychologists, nurses, and community health consultants). The data were analyzed using four coding stages: initial, focused, axial, and theoretical. The results showed that to achieve global health system resilience toward universal health and safety coverage in the post-COVID-19 era, it is required to develop a strategy including the support of healthcare professionals, which allows coping with the emotional and psychological impact of the pandemic. Moreover, opportunities for professional development and collaboration can enhance their resilience and adaptability during and after crises. The findings suggest factors of global health system resilience ranked using the AHP method. The present research provides a valuable insight into the significance of telemedicine, remote care, and ensuring the safety of the healthcare industry and patients as the most crucial factors for enhancing health system sustainability. This article provides new policy recommendations to ensure the long-term effectiveness and sustainability of health systems. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-011 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

This research paper presents the development of a linked open data (LOD) platform that aims to organize and facilitate access to valuable knowledge about folktales and ethnic groups in the Greater Mekong Subregion countries. The study’s methodology involved the creation of a linked open data platform, structuring folktales’ knowledge, and evaluating its performance through expert assessment. The LOD platform was constructed through Google OpenRefine to establish connections with external data sources, and the RDF files (N-Triples) were deployed on Fuseki Server (Apache Jena) to serve as the SPARQL endpoint for querying the linked open data. The Pubby web app was chosen for further development to provide a user-friendly interface, which customized with the Bootstrap framework, featuring an intuitive homepage and a search box function for simplified data retrieval. For the expert evaluation, the study confirmed that the platform performs a high suitability in terms of congruence, reliability, integrity, understandability, collaboration, accessibility, and connectedness. The developed LOD platform exhibits significant potential for expanding its application to various content domains, offering a valuable resource for accessing and exploring the rich cultural heritage of folktales in the Greater Mekong Subregion countries. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-06 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Energy analysis that leads to energy efficiency becomes one of the most important factors in the building design process, especially considering the current energy crisis and the effects of global warming. Building designers greatly benefited from the review and analysis to optimize energy usage for the building in the design stage. While the current design approach is mostly done manually, this paper presents the automated version using the developed BIM plugin. It eases the designer’s choice of alternative plans that yield an effectively designed building. The development of energy analysis in the application aims to promote energy efficiency by calculating the energy consumption estimation based on energy codes MS2680 and MS1525. This application is improved by a simulation that uses the Building Information Modeling (BIM) platform and extracts the necessary parameters from the BIM model with the aid of the created plugins. This study measured energy consumption and efficiency using the two primary parameters of Overall Thermal Transfer Value (OTTV) and Roof Thermal Transfer Value (RTTV). According to the results, OTTV reaches 42.72% and RTTV reaches 8.02%, both of which respectively meet Malaysian Energy Code limits of less than 50% and 25%. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-022 Full Text: PDF
