Abstract

Technology learning has become an integral part of contemporary education and has a significant impact on students' writing literacy motivation. This study aims to review the level of motivation for writing literacy in Junior High Schools (SMP) in rural areas of Indonesia. In addition, this study aims to review the relationship between learning technology and students' writing habits. This study uses a quantitative approach with an online survey data collection technique using the Qualtrics system. The analysis technique used in this study is the Structural Equation Model-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The test results showed that learning technology had a significant influence on writing literacy with a path coefficient of 0.798. This shows that mastery of learning technology provides a positive boost to students' motivation to write. Learning technology on habits and behavior also has a significant direction with a path coefficient of 0.798. The use of technology has increased students' motivation for writing literacy because of the easy access to the necessary resources. Learners feel more motivated to explore new topics and ideas and offer opportunities to express themselves through writing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the personality dynamics of Rara Mendut, the main character in Y.B. Mangunwijaya’s novel Rara Mendut, through Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic perspective. It focuses on three interrelated aspects: life and death instincts, forms of anxiety, and ego defense mechanisms. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with psychoanalytic literary criticism as the analytical approach. The primary data source is the novel Rara Mendut, while secondary data are obtained from relevant psychoanalytic and literary studies. Data were collected through close reading and note-taking techniques, then classified according to Freudian categories of instincts, realistic anxiety, neurotic anxiety, moral anxiety, and defense mechanisms. The findings show that Rara Mendut’s personality is shaped by the tension between Eros and Thanatos. Eros appears in her desire for love, freedom, dignity, and self-preservation, whereas Thanatos emerges in moments of despair, anger, and self-endangering resistance. Her anxiety arises from external domination, inner conflict, and moral pressure produced by feudal-patriarchal power. To manage these pressures, Rara Mendut employs several defense mechanisms, including rationalization, denial, regression, and sublimation. The study concludes that Rara Mendut is represented not merely as a rebellious woman, but as a psychologically complex subject negotiating desire, fear, honor, and power. The implication of this study is that Freudian psychoanalysis can enrich the interpretation of Indonesian literary characters by revealing the inner psychological consequences of social domination and by strengthening psychologically oriented approaches to gendered literary resistance studies.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of English and visual semiotic elements in shaping consumer perception and purchase intention toward local food product packaging in Bulukumba, Indonesia. The research focuses on local snack and culinary packaging that combines English and Indonesian textual elements with visual components such as color, logos, and images. Using a mixed-method approach, the study combined quantitative survey data with qualitative Focus Group Discussions (FGD). Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-Square analysis through SPSS version 30.0, while qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis within a multimodal semiotic framework based on the perspectives of Saussure, Peirce, and Barthes. The findings reveal that English in local product packaging functions primarily as a symbolic resource rather than solely as a communicative medium. Although many respondents demonstrated limited comprehension of English text, they still associated English-language packaging with modernity, prestige, and higher product quality. Visual elements such as color, logos, and imagery also significantly influenced consumer perception by creating emotional and sensory associations. The study further demonstrates that textual and visual elements operate complementarily, where English provides symbolic legitimacy and aspirational identity, while visual elements generate emotional engagement and product attractiveness. Furthermore, bilingual packaging combining English and Indonesian was perceived as more effective because it balances global appeal with local accessibility and cultural familiarity.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the psychological impact experienced by readers after reading the novel A untuk Amanda, as well as to reveal the narrative factors that influence their psychological responses. This study employed a mixed methods approach with an explanatory sequential design and a receptive-pragmatic literary psychology approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 30 respondents who had read the novel, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods and interpreted qualitatively. The results showed that most readers experienced excessive anxiety (63.3%) and sadness (33.3%) after reading the novel. The factor that most influenced readers’ psychological condition was the characters’ behavior (66.7%), indicating the significant role of characterization in building readers’ emotional engagement. Although most respondents reported no long-term psychological impact, some readers demonstrated personal reflection, such as an increased awareness that success is not everything. This study confirms that literary fiction can evoke emotional responses, encourage psychological reflection, and reinforce the relevance of literary psychology approaches that focus on readers’ experiences.

Abstract

This study investigates how the distinctive rhyme schemes in selected Dr. Seuss’s picture books serve a dual purpose: developing early literacy and fostering socio-environmental awareness among young learners. While Seuss’s works are widely recognized for their linguistic playfulness, this paper specifically focuses on how his prosodic structures facilitate vocabulary acquisition, phonemic awareness, and the retention of complex ecological messages. Adopting a qualitative approach through literary analysis and ecocriticism, this paper examines ten picture books by Seuss spanning from 1937 to 1990. The findings indicate that rhythmic patterns do not merely serve as scaffolds for reading skills; they also act as mnemonic devices that make socio-environmental themes—ranging from inclusivity to environmental stewardship—more engaging and memorable. By integrating literary analysis with educational and environmental perspectives, this paper demonstrates that rhyme is a pedagogical strategy rather than a mere stylistic choice. Ultimately, this study illuminates how Seuss’s rhymes empower young readers to internalize critical thinking about their surroundings, serving as an effective medium for integrating literacy education with character development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the language competence of Teacher Professional Education (PPG) students in developing deep learning-based teaching modules, particularly in terms of effective sentence construction. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with PPG Indonesian Language students from 2025 as subjects. Data consisting of 478 sentences from 35 teaching modules were analyzed using content analysis techniques based on indicators of unity, coherence, parallelism, accuracy, economy, and logic. Results indicate that language competence falls in the moderate-to-high category. Unity (95.82%), logic (93.51%), and accuracy (81.38%) scored high, while cohesion, parallelism, and economy remained moderate. Dominant errors were found in economy (47.07%) and cohesion (40.59%), indicating a need to strengthen students' language competence as an integral component of PPG programs. This finding has implications for the quality of deep learning based teaching modules, as ineffective language use may affect the clarity of material delivery. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen language competence in the PPG program, particularly in the application of effective sentence principles in the development of instructional materials.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the production of space and ecological conflict in the novel through the perspectives of space production and ecocriticism. The study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-interpretive design. The data source is the novel entitled Perempuan yang Tunggu di Lorong Menuju Laut by Dian Purnomo. The data consists of narrative excerpts, dialogues, and events that represent the space of Sangihe, roads, sea, land, houses, mines, officials, and community resistance. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques and analyzed based on the concepts of spatial practice, spatial representation, representational space, and human relations with the environment. The main instrument of the study was the researcher herself as a human instrument, assisted by data analysis guidelines. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data classification, interpretation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was maintained through diligent reading, source triangulation, and theory triangulation. The results of the study indicate that Sangihe is represented as a living space produced through the work, memory, solidarity, and ecological ties of the community. In contrast, mining companies represent this space as an area of investment, concession, and exploitation. The ecological conflict in the novel is not only the threat of environmental damage, but also a spatial conflict between the living space of society and extractive capital. The implications of the findings of this study indicate that literature has an important position as a space for criticism of extractive practices and ecological injustice, and also shows how power relations work through the production of space and control of people's living areas, so that reading literature does not stop at the exploitation of nature or the resistance of characters, but also at the spatial mechanisms that enable domination and resistance to take place.
