Abstract

This research began with the observation which was done in VIII-C class SMPN 19 Bandung, there were lack of student’s awareness in keeping class environment, it looked from scatter waste and the lamp that was left turning on when the class began. From the condition, it needs the effort in order to make the students are able to understand a concept of social science material which can increase the ecological intelligent development. The implementation of journalistic activity becomes the alternative that was chosen to develop students’ ecological intelligent development. Journalistic activity aims to make students aware about living environmental issue in their surroundings. Meanwhile, the method that was used was class action research method (PTK) with the design which was developed byKemmis and Mc Taggart in which each cycle consists of planning, action, observation and implementation of reflection. Based on the result of the research of developing students’ ecological intelligence showed enough in first cycle, in cycle 2 and 3 had increasing and they were in good category. Based on the result of three cycles that had been done, there were enhanced in each category. It shows that through journalistic activity, there is enhanced in students’ ecological intelligence.

Abstract

Environmental disrespectful behavior such as the habit of littering, indifferent aboutthe consumption of the environmentally friendly products, then the lack of knowledge ofstudents about environment, also low ability of students in utilizing waste reflect that theecological intelligence of class VIII-B SMPN 3 lembang is still lacking. Therefore it isnecessary to take ways to improve the ecological intelligence of students. The effortsmade for that is by utilizing inorganic waste in making flipchart as a learning media ofsocial science. The expected objective of the research is improving the ecologicalintelligence of students in utilizing inorganic waste by describing started from planning,implementation, constraints and result of the improvement of the ecological intelligence ofstudents. The classroom action research uses model of Elliot. The result of the research,first, the planning process is conducted to determine SK/KD, preparing RPP includesapplying the flipchart media and preparing research instrument. Second, theimplementation process is implementing learning aligned with the planning of theresearch. Third, the constraints in the research is, the students are puzzled yet to determinethe theme of the flipchart which is made constraints, furthermore, make studentsconsciously keeping the environment around them. Fourth, the result in the research showsthe increasing in each cycle. Cycle I ecological intelligence of students in utilizinginorganic waste reached the category of “enough” that is 66.6%. Cycle II reached the“good” category that is 80.3%, and cycle III reached the “good” category that is 82.8%.Therefore it can be concluded that the utilization of inorganic waste made as a media oflearning in the form of flipchart includes Including planning, implementation, andconstraints and results obtained could improve the ecological intelligence of students.

Abstract

The background of this research was defined based on the issue that the researcher found in the process of social study which showed students with low critical thinking skills. The research aims to address the problem through the implementation of the outdoor study. The implementation of outdoor study was believed could be a proper learning method in developing students’ critical thinking. The method used in this study was classroom action research. Indicators of critical thinking listed in this study were give simple descriptions with sub indicators of identifying or formulating questions, identifying the answers, arguments, and opinion by using their own ideas, commenting on the problem and appreciating others’ opinion. Analyzing by using sub indicators of comprehending the findings, connected the findings with the materials, and identifying the problems. The conclusion was established by using sub indicators of giving solution to the existed problems, giving the conclusion based on the materials and the problem emerged during the research. According to the findings, it was denoted that all aspects of the critical thinking indicators were successfully done. It could be seen from the improvement showed by the students in every cycle through the implementation of outdoor study. The connection between outdoor study and the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills was the implementation of outdoor study method introduced the students to the contexts whilst in usual, students only learn through the books, so the outdoor study makes the learning more contextual and meaningful. Also, it could train students’ critical thinking. The general conclusion was the implementation of outdoor study method could improve students’ critical thinking skills in social study at class 8J in SMPN 4 Cimahi.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low of students intrapersonal intelligence in IPS learning and still lack of implementation of learning method that can improve students intrapersonal intelligence. The formulation of the problem that will be answered in this study is how the learning plan implemented by the teacher to improve students intrapersonal intelligence through Student Facilitator And Explaining method (SFAE), how the implementation of learning by teachers to improve students intrapersonal intelligence through SFAE method and how the obstacles encountered by teachers in attempt to improve students#39; intrapersonal intelligence through the SFAE method. The purpose of this study is to describe the efforts of teachers in improving students#39; intrapersonal intelligence in IPS learning through SFAE method. This study method is descriptive study by using data collecting technique of interview, observation and documentation study. The subjects of this study are IPS teachers and 33 students of class VIII-K. Based on the data obtained, the following results are obtained. First, IPS learning planning using SFAE method has been prepared and prepared by teachers well, teachers are guided by the syllabus and pay attention to RPP components. Second, the implementation of the SFAE method in improving the intrapersonal intelligence goes well, the teacher carries out the learning with respect to the provisions and learning steps in accordance with the SFAE method. Third, the obstacles encountered in applying the SFAE method to improve students #39;intrapersonal intelligence are the lack of students#39; knowledge of the SFAE method and concept maps as well as the limited time available for learning execution. The solution to solve the problem is the teacher should introduce the learning method used, introduce the concept map and manage the learning time effectively.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of student’s critical thinking in a group of Social Sciencelearning in VIII-A Grade SMP Pasundan 6 Bandung. The purpose of this research is to describe planning,implementation, result, obstacle and effort in the implementation of problem-based learning model withnewspaper media to improve student’s critical thinking ability. This research uses classroom actionresearch with Kemmis and Taggart model by using problem-based learning and newspaper as learningmedia. The subjects of this research are37 students of VIII-A Grade SMP Pasundan 6 Bandung. Planningof this research includes preparing RPP(Instruction Plan) and making instrument according to the needs.This research was conducted for three cycles and obtained the result of student’s critical thinkingimprovement in Social Science learning from first cycle until third cycle. The student’s critical thinkingability in the first with the enough category, in the second with the enough category and in the third cyclewith the good category. The increase is signed by the number of students who ask questions, answerquestions asked by teachers by using their own language and using sentences that are understandable, aswell ascan find and solve existing problems in the environment related to the subject in a group discussion activity. The problem of this research are the difficulty of finding newspapers related to thesubject presented and the implementation of lesson is inappropriate with the instruction plan. Theseobstacles can be solved by reading of newspapers from various sources before implementing the actionand improving the learning process by delivering the subject in accordance to the instruction plan that hasbeen compiled. This research uses qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
