Abstract

The study area is located at Masela Block and its surrounding, Moluccas Province. Result of the deep sea measurement and global data conversion provide description of three dimensions around the track lines area. This result is overlay with seismic data, that can give morphotectonic implication between Asian and Australian Plates. Track lines of MGI-2010-MSL-1, 2 and 3 show that the profile of the sea floor, form the high morphology which represents the volcanic islands. It forms west – east direction of fold-thrust belt non-volcanic outer Banda arc. The southern part trench of the Australian Continent reflected the platform system and undulation morphology. The sea floor profile ( VE 1:5 ) show that the slope profile ranges between 0º and 8º. Furthermore, the morphology of the sea floor can be classified as a relatively flat slope. Due to this condition, this area may be used for gas pipe laying along 146 km distance, between the Well of Abadi 1 at the Masela Block and Selaru Island at south Tanimbar Islands. Keywords: sea depth, sea floor morphology, seismic profile, tectonic, Masela Block Daerah penelitian terletak di Blok Masela dan sekitarnya, Provinsi Maluku. Abstract

The public transportation system along the Kapuas River, Central Kalimantan are highly depend on water transportation. Natural condition gives high distribution to the smoothness of the vessel traffic along the Kapuas Murung River. The local government has planned to build specific port for stock pile at the Batanjung which would face with natural phenomena of sedimentation and erosion at a river mouth. Erosion and sedimentation could be predicted not only by field observing but it is also needed hypotheses using software analysis. Hydrodynamics and transport sediment models by Mike 21 HDFM-MT software will be applied to describe the position of sedimentations and erosions at a river mouth. Model is assumed by two different river conditions, wet and dry seasons. Based on two types of conditions the model would also describe the river flow and sediment transport at spring and neap periods. Tidal fluctuations and a river current as field observation data would be verified with the result of model simulations. Based on field observation and simulation results could be known the verification of tidal has an 89.74% correlation while the river current correlation has 43.6%. Moreover, based on the simulation the sediment patterns in flood period have a larger area than ebb period. Furthermore, the erosion patterns dominantly occur during wet and dry season within ebb period. Water depths and sediment patterns should be considered by the vessels that will use the navigation channel at a river mouth. Keywords: Kapuas Murung River, software Mike 21 HDFM-MT, erosion and sedimentation pattern Penduduk yang berada di sepanjang Sungai Kapuas sangat bergantung pada transportasi air. Abstract

Waigeo Island is one of four large islands of the Raja Ampat group, West Papua Province. This area lies in the heart of the coral triangle region as the most marine bio-diversity on Earth. Coral reef ecosystem of the Waigeo is a favorable habitat for various organisms including foraminifera. Foraminifera have been proven as useful indicator of water quality surrounding the coral reef environment since FORAM Index was formulated. It gives additional importance of foraminifera beside their common uses on micropalaeontology for petroleum industry and palaeoecology. Therefore, it is very important to obtain data of the benthic foraminifera from various coral reef environments in Indonesia, such as around Waigeo Island. Sediment samples of this study were collected from 12 sites in southern part off Waigeo Island, on July 2011. Observation on benthic foraminifera shows that the study area is dominated by symbiotic bearing benthic foraminifera, Amphistegina lessonii, belongs to Suborder Rotaliina. This occurrence increases the values of FORAM Index (FI) at certain sites. Generally, the values of FI from most sites are high (FI>4) that provide a good indication for reef growth or recovery. The values of FI less than 2 are found at RJ3 and RJ4 indicate stress environment for reef growth and they are dominated by opportunistic and heterotrophic functional groups of Elphidium and Quinqueloculina. Keywords: benthic foraminifera, high value FI, Waigeo Island, West Papua Pulau Waegio merupakan salah satu dari empat pulau besar di Kepulauan Raja Ampat, Provinsi Papua Barat. Nilai FI rendah (

Abstract

Thirty seafloor of sediment samples have been taken by using gravity corer and grab sampler at Betumpak Cape, and adjacent area of Bangka Belitung. The result of grain size analyses show that there are four sediment units: gravelly sand, gravelly muddy sand, silt and silty sand. Identification of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) image on several samples shows the presence of clay mineral such as smectite, alunite, chlorite etc., may resulted from plagioclase weathering of granite. Based on heavy mineral analyses, its highest content is found at MTK-27 (northwest of Betumpak Cape). High content of apatite (0.94% wt and 1.07% wt) is found on coarse sand fractions (115-170 mesh) at MTK-29 (northeast Ular Cape) and MTK-30 (north of Ular Cape). Generally, the heavy mineral accumulation is occurred on medium sand fraction (60-80 mesh) as magnetite (7.86% wt), ilmenite (4.9% wt) and zircon (1.32% wt). Based on these data, it shows that heavy mineral is accumulated on medium to coarse sand. Keywords: sea floor sediment, grain size analysis, heavy minerals, and Betumpak Cape, Bangka strait.

Abstract

The application of Trend Surface Analysis (TSA) method an geological and geophysical research in map sheets 1813-1814, Balikpapan Waters and its surrounding, shows the significant value of residual anomaly. The magnetic disseverance of regional and total anomaly value obtained the negative anomaly between -50 nT and -350 nT and positive anomaly between +50 nT and +400 nT. The contour of total and regional anomaly shows the magnetic properties of rocks which characterizes the geological arrangements of the research areas. Residual anomaly yielded from the 2nd order value of regional anomaly might be correlated with the formation of basin structures in the central and northern parts of research area, which is interpreted as a part of Kutai Basin. Keywords : TSA method, magnetic anomaly, geology and geophisics, Balikpapan Waters.
