Abstract

Hydrogenolysis of methylcyciopentane (MCP) was carried out with 0.3% Pt/Al2O3 catalyst at 210 °C and 235 °C in a batch reactor. Chemisorption of hydrogen and oxygen on the catalyst had also been measured. The mean value of platinum dispersion on the catalyst support measured by chemisorption technique was D = 84%. The product distribution of hydrogenolysis of MCP, namely n- hexane : 2- methylpentane : 3-methylpentane was found to be 15: 55: 30 at 210 DCand 20: 50: 30 at 235 °C. The adsorption of MCP molecule at the boundary area between the metal particle and the support material was assumed to be the determining factor for that distribution profile. The activation energy (Ea) of the hydrogenolysis of MCP on this catalyst was 95 kJ/mol.

Abstract

Translucent Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) gel-monolith was prepared by partially hydrolyzing metal alkoxides solution which modified with acetylacetone(acacH). Metal alkoxides, lead di-i-propoxide, zirconium tetra-nbutoxide and titanium tetra-i-propoxide were used as starting materials. In Infrared spectra for the translucent monolithic gel after aging at room temperature for several days or drying at 90°C for 18h, the most significant feature is the presence of band at around 1554 cm-1 which can be assigned to the v (C-O) and v (C-C) vibrati-ons of acetylacetanate group coordinated to the metal cations Ti and Zr. The diffraction peaks of PbO were found after heating at 300°C for 2h. After heating at 450 °C for 2 h, diffraction peaks of pyrochlore Pb2 Ti206 and perovskite PZT phase were observed. The diffraction peaks of PbO and pyrochlore phase disappeared after heating at 600°C, and tetragonal perovskite phase was stable up to 1000 °C. The diffraction peaks of perovskite phase were also found after heating at 430 ° for 24 h. The density of the compacted pulverizedgel after heating at 1000°C for 30 min. was 6.9 g/cm3 , about 86% of the theoretical value.

Abstract

Penicillin acylase plays an important role in the catalysis of benzylpenicillin hydrolytic reaction, prodeucing 6-aminopenicilanic acid (6- APA), a precursorfor the formation of penicillinderivatives. Cloning of the penicillin acylase gene of Escherichia coli B130 chromosomal DNA on pHC79 cosmid vector to increase the enzyme activity has been investigated. The cloning was cooducted with several steps, including isolation of the chromosomal DNA. digestion by restriction enzyme, ligation by T4-DNA ligase, transformation of the recombinant DNA, and selection of the transformans. Microbial assay utilizing Serratia marcescens was carried out for screening the penicillin acylase colony, whereas the determination of the enzyme activity was examined based on Kornfeld method. From 2070 colonies screened by S. marcescens, only 4 positive colonies were obtained. The enzyme activity of these colonies was 4-6 fold higher than the penicillin acylase activity from E. coli B 130.

Abstract

A ferroelectric material film of Lead Zirconate Titanate, Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT), was produced by sol-gel method from alkoxide and acetate precursors in a normal propanol solvent system. The excess amount of Pb was 10 mole % more than stoichiometrically used for preparing the solution. The concentration of PZT in coating solution was 0.7 M, and pH of the solution was 4.5. The films was prepared by dip-coating onto slide glass, silica glass and Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate. In order to avoid cracking TiO2 was coated on the glasses as a barrier layer. The asdried PZT film was amorphous from X-ray diffraction. The amount of pyrochlore and perovskite phase depended on the heating temperature and kind of barrier layer. Single perovskite phase was found for coated films on TiO2/SiO2 and Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si heated at 600° C or higher, but it was never found for coated films on SiO2 substrate without barrier layers. Crystallization of perovskite PZT film was retarded when deposited on amorphous substrates as compared to crystalline substrate. The coated film on Pt/Til/SiO2/Si was thicker and smaller in particle size than that of coated film on Ti02/SiO2. A columnar structure with a diameter around 6.5 nm, was observed and no boundary was observed between layers in 9 time dipcoated film on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si.

Abstract

A research was carried out to isolate the constituents of Smilax cordiforia trunk bark. It is a famous medicinal plant in Mexico, used as weight control. The isolation methods were carried out by maceration in ether, and remaceration in methanol, and then both of crude extracts were purified by using combined chromatography technique. In the purification and identitification of the ether extract two compounds as steroid saponins, 3-B-O -B-D-glucopyranosyl sitosterol (1) and a mixture of 6-O-palmitoyl-glucopiranosil sitosterot, 6-0stearylglucopyranosyl sitosterol and 6-0arachidoyl-glucopyranosyl sitosterol (2) were obtained, which also have been isolated from other medicinal plants. Isolation from methanol extract resulted in four known substance of phenolic derivatives, identified as afilbin (3) isoastilbin (4), engelitin (5). and chlorogenic acid (C). engelitin demonstrated antifungal activity, astilbin and chlorogenic acid showed antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral activities. Chlorogenic acid also exhibited antimutagenic, antitumour and antioxcidant activities. Their molecular structures were detemined on the basis of combied spectroscopic methods including two dimensional NMR (2D NMR).

Abstract

Bentonite is high plastivity and colloidal clay which contains smectite(montmorillonite) mineral as major the component. Commercially, there are two kinds of bentonite, which are calcium bentonite and sodium ben-tonite. Results of DTA, XRD and IR analysis on Pacitan bentonite, show that the major component is montmorillonite mixed with a little quartz. Cation exchange capacity (CEC), specific gravity, surface area, pore volume and swelling index of this bentonite are 45,98-62.42 meq/100 gram; 2,14-2,28 g/mL; 641,44-737,29 m /gram; 0,88-1,25 mL/gram and 78,95-163,16 %, respectively. Based on XRD and CEC value Pacitan bentonites are of the calcium bentonite type.

Abstract

The LaMnO3 and La0.8Sr0.2MnO3+A perovskites were synthesized base on sol-gel method using metal nitrates in required proportions. In the preparation, ethylene-glycol and water were used as the dissolving agents and comparison was made. The amorph gel was obtained from nitrate mixture solutions heated in a range 60-80°C, either under vacuum conditions in rotary evaporator or under normal pressure (atmospheric). Perovskite crystals were obtained from calcination process of the amorph gel, and the product was further characterized by X-ray Diffraction analyzer, BET method, Scanning Electron Microscopy as well as Thermal analyzer (TG-DTA). With regard to the process and characterizations, the product obtained by using ethylene-glycol as the dissolving agent was relatively better than. the one produced in aqueous condition. A specific surface area of the sample with ethylene-glycol as dissolving agent (26 m2/gr.) was wider than the sample prepared in aqueous solution (16 m2/gr.). The percentage of weight loss during the formation of perovskite powder was 50 %, it consisted of water, nitrogen and organic compounds. From the X-ray Diffraction analysis, the structure of the crystalline perovskite was obtained by calcination process at 600°C was rhombohedric with a = 7.7 A and (X, = 90.39°. Oxidation reaction of Carbon Monoxide, Hydrocarbon and Particulate of Diesel Engine on these Perovskite was very much affected by specific surface area, structure and Mn 4+ ion.
