Abstract

One of the causes of disease in fish is declining immunity or immunity. Giving an immunostimulatory treatments deemed effective enough to reduce some of the infections that occur in addition to the use of drugs. Studies related to the use of immunostimulants in fish immune enhancement has a lot to do, both in the form of synthetic chemicals, microorganisms intact and component derivatives, as well as natural immunostimulatory ingredients derived from animal and plant groups and derivatives. Short communication study aims to elaborate immunostimulant, especially the potential of herbal plants that have been implemented so far to improve the immunity of fish infected by Aeromonas sp in freshwater fish commodities

Abstract

There are many problematic issues challenging the success of fish farming. In particular, the very intensive, monocultural nature of fish farming raises some fundamental questions about the sustainability of this type of farming. Using genetically modified organisms (GMO) for fish cultivation is one of those to help the farmer to increase the production. By focusing on "technological and management improvements" to maximize economic growth, genetically engineered (GE) food pushes the ecological and social systems to accept the logic, time scale, and control of global capitalist markets and their corporate captains. But all over the globe, industrial-style fish farming with GMO or GE development is threatening native fish and their habitats. There are also significant concerns relating to farmed fishes (including eggs) escaping into the natural environment competing with wild fish species for food and also possibly endangering wild other (fish) populations and genetic variation. But if transgenic fish are adequately contained, they will pose little risk to native population. Prevent the escape of transgenic fish and sterilization is also developed to decrease the risk. Nowadays, we just need a perspective that recognizes that the health value of fish for humans depends on the health system in which they are raised. The sustainable wild fishing practices and the establishment of organic standards for aquaculture could provide healthy fish far into the future

Abstract

Floating Net Cage (FNC) system were applied to mariculture of groupers (Family Serranidae) in marine waters of Pongok Island, Regency of South Bangka. The economic carrying capacity of the system have been evaluated based on R/C, NPV, PP, and IRR analysis. The result revealed that FNC system still gives a big opportunity as an alternative income for the local residents since it provides a multiplier effect to 127 households in the basic of symbiotic mutualism. Area suitability for grouper mariculture in Regency of South Bangka estimated only used about 0,5% of waters which provides the economic advantage for 127 households, or about 4,3% of 2.959 fishermen in the District of Lepar Pongok. Economic carrying capacity proved to be positively correlated with social carrying capacity to move the economy in the small island with reef fishery resources like Pongok Island. The government policies needed in order to support the FNC system as an economic prime mover in the coastal area or small island with potential reef fishery like in Pongok Island

Abstract

The objectives of this study was to know the growth rate and production of sea weed of Gracilaria sp species that cultured by Floating and Off Bottom Methods. This research was conducted in Pulau Baai Waters Bengkulu City during 2 (two) month. The data were analyzed statistically by using Completely Randomized Design. Based on the result of variance analysis were obtained that Ftest value = 22.369 that more than Ftable value at 5% level = 4.45 and 1% level = 8.40 for degree of freedom (1.17). So, it’s mean that there are significant and very significant between both treatments, where Floating Method showed production and growth rate are the best than Off Bottom Method.
