SOIJST (Surya Octagon Interdisciplinary Journal of Science and Technology) is a bilingual interdisciplinary journal that publishes original research on science and technology in Indonesia. SOIJST is organized by Surya Universisty. Interdisciplinary offerings reflect breakthrough research, as well as new directions of knowledge creation in four scopes: Life Sciences, Engineering, Socioeconomics, and Information & Communication. All of which explore the technology-oriented methods to offer solutions in ways that are inspirational and intellectually engaging. SOIJST was first published in 2015 and 2016. Due to change process of management, in the 2nd dan 3rd year, SOIJST did not released any volume. Starting from 2018, the further publication would be released for the next volumes.

Abstract

An interesting prospective pseudomorphic overlayer on bcc surface material as implemented in Pd pseudomorphic overlayer on V(110) surface has been introduced in the frame work of first-principles calculation. Adsorption and decomposition of H2S molecule were calculated on this overlayer structure. In comparison, we also calculated them on their bare V(110) and Pd(111) surfaces. It was found that Pseudomorphic overlayer surface structure weakened the adsorption energy of H2S, SH, S and H compared to its bare Pd(111) and V(110) surfaces. Furthermore, Pd/V(110) surface was found to have higher activation energy barrier for H2S and SH dissociation than its bare Pd(111) and V(110) do. Pd/V(110) surface is predicted to be a promising catalyst membrane used in gas-shift reactor technology because besides its advantage to absorb hydrogen with very high permeation coefficient, sulfur atom is predicted to be adsorbed in a limited amount.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to comprehend the effect of investment and trade policies on forest plantation investment development in Indonesia.  In 1990 the government issued Forest Plantation (HTI) policy which aimed at accelerating the growth of HTI investment. However the change of economy and political circumstances in 1997/1998 has led to the change of investment policies on HTI such as discontinued access on Government investment facilities and interest free of loan, a continue forest clearing for HTI, and ban on roundwood export.  Those policies were the source of  market competitiveness to fall and further discouraged HTI investment developmment. The research recommends to reform current policies by combining to open round wood export and provide soft loan followed by termination of forest clearing (conversion natural forest to HTI area) policy.  By this approach, the government has great opportunity to accelerate investment growth on forest plantation, increase economic- financial efficiency, and socio economic benefits.

Abstract

The lattice-gas model simulations are being used to reproduce the collective behavior of complex economic systems. By correlating different manifestation of the collective behaviors to the parameter changes in the simulation, we identify the underlying mechanism of the various manifestation of the collective behavior. The standard growth model is reproduced by the model with non-interacting agent. As we introduce interacting agents, the growth model departs from the standard.  Using cluster labeling algorithm we obtain number density histograms and diversity to explain the underlying mechanism of the growth dynamics.

Abstract

Nawacita are 9 (nine) main programs and the foundations of Indonesias development paradigm in the era of President Joko Widodo. Nawacita trying to get out of mainstream development paradigm since the New Order era to the post-reform which is the paradigm of growth. Development priorities not only about growth but also confirms the presence of state and government in society, expanding equitable development which reducing the waiver of public services. Another priority is to build economic independence and maintain cultural values through a mental revolution and the continuing restoration of the Nation. This research aims to interpret and analyze the Nawacita position in this line of thought emerging the development of paradigm in the global world and analyze potential bottlenecks in its operation activities. Research carried out by the analysis of literature through qualitative research methodology hermeneutics phenomenology. The results showed that Nawacita is sustainable and human development paradigm, but in its operation would face obstacles, especially from the bureaucratic apparatus and work culture..

Abstract

Research of water masses by using conductivity temperature depth are conducted in the Lombok Strait during September 2014 under the Cruise SITE Leg II to Lombok Strait. The aim of the research is to investigate Temperature-Salinity Diagram based on oceanographic parameters in Lombok Strait. Temperature-Salinity Diagram shows the origin of the water masses across Lombok Strait. The results of this research shows water masses across Lombok Strait comes from North Pacific Subtropical Water (NPSW) on ~ 150 m depth and North Pacific Intermediate Water (NPIW) on ~ 400 m depth. The differences values of salinity reference and salinity measurement indicates the properties of NPSW and NPIW are dynamic, verified by the number of salinity reference is 34,55 Psu on ~ 150 m depth, whereas the salinity number of five station in order are  34,63 Psu; 34,65 Psu; 34,65 Psu; 34,57 Psu; 34,52 Psu. The difference of salinity number caused by strong vertical mixing in Indonesian waters.

Abstract

Jakarta is a fascinating location for both artists and art curators. This paper attempts to show how the city serves as a cultural open stage where ordinary dreams unfold through the practices of contemporary art in the daily lives of citizens. Utilizing the philosophical inquiries of Michel De Certeau, on the relation between ?Space? and ?Place?, a qualitative study was conducted based upon data about Jakarta?s expansion, in terms of its urban physical structure and demographics; data analysis was also carried out on the contemporary art present in the daily life of the city. Through a phenomenological experience of and investigation into the artistic phenomena in Jakarta, three conclusions have been drawn: (1) Jakarta is a city of collaboration with local marginalized communities, (2) Jakarta is responding to its urban landscape and (3) Jakarta unwittingly has become the host of an alternative space in one of its ordinary traditional markets.
