Abstract

House Dust Mites (HDM) is an aeroallergen that can be found in various parts of urban homes such as mattresses, windows, and office furniture. HDM is a member of Order of Acarina which plays important role in the medical field as the main trigger of allergic reactions of people with asthma, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and atopic dermatitis. The purpose of this study was to study the type, density, and factor which affecting of HDM populations in the campus area of Gadjah Mada University. This research was conducted in January-February 2018. Dust sampling at 8 Faculty and 2 Vocatioal School of Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta. Taken 3 point of dust sample in each location by using vacuum cleaner and was put in transparent plastic bag (ziplock) and inserted in the Tullgreen Tornado. Preparation HDM that has been observed using light microscope and identified using the Krantz Key (1978). The results obtained 7 genus with abundance respectively Cheyletus (16.40%), Tyrophagus (9.29%), Glycyphagus (40.44%), Carpoglyphus (6.55%), Tarsonemus (4.92%), Acarus (14.75%), and Blomia (7.65 %). Temperature, humidity, and feeding factors have an effect on increasing the growth and development of HDM populations. Keywords: house dust mites, type, abundance, density, the campus of UGM

Abstract

Turmeric is a herb and medicinal plant that has many functions like being often used as spices, preservatives, dyes, cosmetics, and paint raw materials, and also turmeric plants are widely used as medicinal plants, because of the active ingredient (secondary metabolites) found in turmeric which is curcumin. Curcumin has function in providing natural color in turmeric, besides that it plays a role in the health sector as antihepatotoxic, antiedemic, antioxidant, anti inflammatory, anticancer and so on. Water availability play important role in growth and development of a plant. Internally, lack of water can make plant in drought condition, the physiology process of the plant disturbed, producing secondary metabolith and excess water can make the growth of the plant obstructed. This study aims to determine the effect of water availability from the beginning to harvesting turmeric plants on the yield of turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val.) and to determine the effect of water availability before harvesting turmeric plants on the level curcumin of turmeric plants (Curcuma domestica Val.). Keywords: curcumin, turmeric, water availability, yield

Abstract

Jaeg., Philonotis hastata (Dub.) Wijk & Marg., Octoblepharum albidum Hedw., Vesicularia dubyana (C. Muell.) Broth., Trachythecium verrucosum Hampe., Fissidens zippelianus Doz. & Molk., Barbula javanica Dozy & Molk., Barbula indica Hook., Barbula convoluta Hedw., Barbula consanguinea (Thw. & Mitt.) Jaeg., Brachymenium indicum (Dozy & Molk.) Bosch & Lac., dan Isopterygium minutirameum (C. Mull.) Jaeg.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Chrysomphalus aonidum is an important pest in fruits. Maluku Utara is a free area of C. aonidum so that any entry of fruit from outside the area must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate from the area of origin. Local fruit products have a potential to develop as export commodities, given their large numbers and variety. Problems arised when the larger volumes of fruits imports without going through quarantine measured on fruit products contaminated with pests and diseases can attack Indonesian local fruit commodities. The research was aimed to study the contribution of local fruit production to national production and its potential as an alternative host of C. aonidum. The study was used Trend Model Time Series and Location Quotient (LQ) analysis to discuss the changes of agricultural commodity. The results showed that bananas, melons and oranges have the potential to be the main hosts of C. aonidum while the nutmeg and cacao commodities are alternative hosts. Concentrated local fruit cultivation in a particular area has a greater impact on handling if attacked by C.aonidum than scattered cultivation.
