Abstract

The aims of the research were to observe (1) utilization of cocoa pod husk meal to fish feed especially for carbohydrate source (2) effect of substitution rice bran by cocoa pod husk meal on growth and product of giant goramy (3) find the substitution doses of rice bran by cocoa pod husk meal on feed which could give better influence on giant goramy growth. The research was done for 8 months in Fisheries Research Station Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty Gadjah Mada University. Research was conduct by cultured of giant goramy on fibre tank, for 60 days. There were 5 treatmens substitution dose (20, 40, 60, and 80%) and control (comercial feed) with 3 replications. During cultured the tank were irrigated and the fish were fed 3% of body weight 3 times a day. The result showed that cocoa pod husk meal can substitute rice bran on giant goramy feed. Substitution rice bran by cocoa pod husk meal on fed not significantly affect on the growth, product and survival rate of giant goramy, but significant affected on buoyancy of feed. Giant goramy were feeding by comercial feed had growth and product better than feeding by artificial feed.

Abstract

The Purpose of this research was (1) to examine the suitability areas of brackish water pond for Gracilaria sp.culture (2) to examine the carrying capacity of brackish water pond for Gracilaria sp.culture development, and (3) to arrange the development strategy of Gracilaria sp.culture in brackish water pond areas. This research was done quantitative descriptively by collecting data. A survey method was applied in this research. The data of Gracilaria sp. culture development at Ulujami District were collected and analysed descriptively by using an area suitability method. The sampling location and respondents were based on a purposive sampling method. The carrying capacity of the total area of the brackish water pond and the Gracilaria sp. total production were analysed both descriptively as well as using SWOT analysis. The results show that based on the area suitability 6,315 Ha or 1% of the total brackish water pond were very suitable (S1) for Gracilaria sp. culture; 605,25 Ha or 99% was suitable and there was no area where was not suitableĀ  for Gracilaria sp. culture. However, there was 5,052 Ha brackishwater pond which was very suitable and effective for Gracilaria sp. culture. The Gracilaria sp. yield from those area was 20,208 ton/year. Development strategy of Gracilaria sp. culture at Ulujami district are partner enterprises development, empower comunities organization in economy sector as well as Gracilaria sp. cultureĀ  technology, technical service in seed selection guidance and postharvest and enterprise management, financials and infrastructures improvement, design of culture areas development, involvement of stakeholders, development of processing home industry and market expansion.

Abstract

Spirulina platensis is a blue-green algae which rich in protein, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. One way to protect from photooxidation by making microcapsules spirulina. The objectives this research is to determine the effect of packaging materials and storage temperature on the stability of products (dry and microcapsules) during storage. The research using factorial design (2 x 3 x 2) with variation types of processed spirulina (dried-K, microcapsules-M), packaging (plastic PE non-vacuum-PE, plastic PE vacuum-PEV and aluminum foil-AF) and storage temperature (cold room 50C and 280C). The parameters were observed including water activities, water content, fikosianin, beta carotene, antioxidant activity and yield. The result is that the differences type of processed spirulina, packaging materials and storage temperature affect the parameters of the observations, where the treatment of spirulina in the form of microcapsules which is packed with aluminum foil and stored at cold temperatures give a spirulina product stability is the best treatment.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine natrium metabisulfit concentration influence to gelatin colour quality of red large snapper skin. Gelatin production was begun with dry skin rehydration, boiling water submerging then size decreasing and acetate acid solution (CH3COOH) submerging with pH 3 for 24 hours, skin washing, then refined the skin using blender, then the skin was extracted using water at 90oC temperature for three hours. The extracted gelatin was filtered using filter cloth, dakron and zeolite. The natrium metabisulfit (0%; 0.25%; 0.5%; 0.75%; 1%, w/w) was added into the filtrate then the filtrate was dried in an oven with 700C for 36 hours. The gelatin leaves was refined using blender. The result of this research shown that natrium metabisulfit concentration influenced (p<0.05) ash content, sulfide residue, and gelatin colour, but did not influence (p>0.05) the water content, viscosity, and gelatin gel power. The increasing of natrium metabisulfit concentration were followed by gelatin colour qualities which were getting brighter, while ash contents and sulfide residues which were collected were increasing above the Indonesia National Standard. Natrium metabisulfit concentration 0,25% gave the best result based on Indonesia National Standard 01-3735-1995 compared with other treatments, with specifications : protein content 86.64%, ash content 3.45%, water content 7.52%, sulfide residue 313.61 ppm, viscosity 9.58 cPs, gel power 274.82 bloom, and light yellow colour (2.5 Y 7/4).

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of phytase enzym in artificial feed on gowth, feeding usage and survival rate of brown marbled grouper (Ephinephelus fuscoguttatus) and to determine the optimum dose of phytase enzym in artificial feed on growth and feeding rate of brown marbled grouper (Ephinephelus fuscoguttatus) . Methodology used in this study was laboratory treatments with complete random design. The study consisted of four treatments and three repetitions. Treatment A (0 mg/kg of feed), B (500 mg/kg of feed), C (1000 mg/kg of feed), and D (1500 mg/kg of feed). Examined parameters were absolute weight growth, specific growth rate, feeding usage (feed and protein conversion ratio efficiency), survival rate and water quality. Varian analysis was used to analyze the data and Double Duncan Area Test was used to test the treatment differences. The results show that the treatments significantly (P<0.05) affected on the grwoth and feeding usage; however, they did not significantly (P>0.05) affect on the survival rate of brown marbled grouper (Ephinephelus fuscoguttatus). The optimum dose of phytase enzym for feeding usage and the growth of brown marbled grouper was 500-1000 mg/kg of feed. The water quality was still in the viable range for brown marbled grouper cultivation.
