Abstract

Fish fi llet as protein based food will susceptible to damage when stored at room temperature without any treatment. The shelf life of fi sh fi llet at room temperature only just 12 hours. The effort that public have been made to extend it in storage and transport is a cooling system. To reduce the dependency on the ice usage is needed a way or method to be applied, namely active packaging. Some publications mention that the active packaging can inhibit microbial growth on the fi sh fi llet. The purpose of this study was to determine the infl uence of edible coatings were incorporated ekstraks rough Ovocleidin 17 (EKO-17) on the quality of fi sh fi llets during storage. This study was conducted using a randomized block design with three replications simple. Factors to be tested is EKO-17 concentration in edible coatings. The parameters observed in this study is total microbial, TVB-N, protein content, and heavy losses. The results showed that the concentration of EKO-17 signifi cantly affect the total microbial, TVB-N and protein content. EKO-17 concentration of 0.9% with room temperature storage for 27 hours gives the best results, the total microbial 7,27 (106 CFU / g), the TVB-N 17.02 mg / 100 g, protein content of 10.75%, severe shrinkage of 0.43%.

Abstract

Experiment on the enlargement of individual mud crab Scylla serrata which caught by fisherman in the waters of Wael District still under economy worthy price. The purposes of this study is to see the crab growth rate through one of the crab fi sheries management strategies, there are maintenance and fattening. The weight size of individual mud crab used in this study between 100 gr to 325 gr ind-1. Male mud crabs was separated from females as a fattening treatment experiment and was placed on the two bamboo cages which each contain of 15 individuals then placed separately. Observation was made along 4 months. The result showed that the growth pattern of male and female mud crabs is still exponential, which male individu reach on average 532.3 gr weight change ind-1 and female with 499 gr ind-1 in 4 months. It concluded that female mud crabs has slower growth rate than males, and the fattening not reached an asymptotic value, which means they still can be fattened again in the cage.

Abstract

Low mating rate in domesticated tiger shrimp both in pond and controlled tank is probably due to immature spermatozoa because of defi ciency of several micronutrients such as amino acid, certain vitamins and minerals. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effect of commercial feed additive and to obtain its optimum dose in improving the sperm quality of pond-reared male black tiger. Test diet containing three different levels of feed additive used as treatment at 0 (SX0), 20 (SX20) dan 30 g/kg pakan (SX30). Formulation used in this experiment was standard formulation developed through previous experiment. Two hundreds and fi fty male tiger shrimps were obtained from traditional earthenpond  with weight range from 57 to 99 g and months of age around 8 months (prematuration stage). In order to evaluate the effect of dietary treatments on natural mating rate and fertiled eggs, after 4 months feeding trial, male stocks were mated with wild female tiger shrimp then observed their performances. After 2 moths feeding trial (age of male around 10 months), from 15 male stocks  visually observed, it was still found undevelope spermatophore in each of the tank. Slight development of spermatophore was observed in male stocks fed SX30 around 67% and 53% was found in shrimp fed SX0 and SX20. Furthermore, spermatophore with white color ranged from 13-20% in all dietary treatments. Number of sperm cell in male fed with SX20 was the highest 24 x106 cell and the lowest was found in male fed SX0 yaitu 75 x106 cell. Female maturing without spermatophore in its thelicum was not found in group fed SX0 and female maturing bearing spermatophore was occured in 4 females. Egg fecundity were relative similar in the two groups which was 164,166 eggs obtained in SX0 and 186,489 eggs in SX30. Even though fecundity of the two groups was quite similar, no fertiled egg was spawned by female fed SX0 while in group SX30, 34% of the eggs was fertile and hacthed around 33%. The application of additives as much as 30 g / kg in male tiger shrimp broodstock feed ponds can increase the level of fertilization of eggs by 34% higher than 0% in the feed additive.

Abstract

Phytoplankton mainly Dinofl agellata group on sexual reproductive phase will form a cyst when water conditions worsened. Cyst that was in the column will settle to the bottom, forming sediments that abundance is closely related to the events that occurred at an earlier time. This study aims to examine the relationship between abundance of Dinophyceae cysts with physico-chemical parameters of waters in the Jakarta Bay. Research conducted in the Jakarta Bay in August 2009, September 2009, November 2009, January 2010, March 2010 and May 2010 with the number of the location of sediment sampling are 9 stations. Sediment sample were taken using a corer which the pipe made of elliptical. Sample handling is done by the separation between the sediments and cysts which is covering the sifting process, then performed panning. The water samples that has been separated by sediment stored in sample bottles and preserved by using formalin 4%, then identifi ed using a microscope. The results showed that the physico-chemical parameters of waters were the temperature: 25,00-31,80oC, salinity: 28.00 to 33.00, current: 9.81 to 30.51 cm.det-1, acidity : 6.58 to 8.63, brightness: 1.25 to 4.50 m, depth: 4.00 to 7.00 m, nitrates: 0.0072 to 0.0982 mg.l-1, and orthophosphate: 0, 0114 to 0.4076 mg.l-1. Dinophyceae cyst abundance during the study ranged from 51-8081 kista.cm-3. Meanwhile, the composition of the types of cysts Dinophyceae consists of 8 (eight) genus. The results of Pearson’s correlation analysis showed that the current value of Pearson’s correlation was 0.233 provides the most profound and positive correlation to the presence of cysts Dinophyceae during the study.

Abstract

Scallop shells fl our need to be formulated with a source of phosphor. The aim of this study was to examine the formulation of calcium and phosphorus scallop shells fl our with corn and millet and its infl uence on the level of snacks preference and to identify the potential marketing. This research methods is experimental laboratories and descriptive using completely randomized design (CRD) by three treatments with three replications. The treatment is the addition of fl our calcium products, include the control 0% (A1, A2, A3), the addition of scallop shells fl our with corn fl our (B1, B2, B3) and the addition of fl our shell scallop shells with millet fl our (C1, C2, C3). Parameters observed include calcium, phosphor and hedonic value. Hedonic value is tested using Kruskal Wallis analysis. In the results show that the results of fortifi ed snacks produce calcium and phosphorus ratio close to 3 : 1 (Ca / P), however cookies with scallop shells and millet fl our fortifi cation provide calcium and phosphorus ratio of 12.3: 1 (Ca / P). Extrudates with scallop shells and corn fl our fortifi cation is the closest to the ratio of calcium and phosphorus balance, with 3.2 : 1 (Ca / P) ratio and has the highest hedonic value (6.89 ≤ μ ≤ 7.57). On consumer behavior assessment concluded that the potential customers in Semarang is as much as 86.7% who liked the product and interested to products. The suitable prices for 30 grams products of extrudates that fortifi ed with scallop shells and corn fl our is Rp. 3.600, -.
