Abstract

Until now, Indonesia does not have any dynamics exhaust pollution test standard, which is customized to Indonesian traffic and climate. On the other hand, the air pollution problem in Indonesian big cities has reached a critical level. Some researches done by some institutions (including ITB) show that the air pollution level in Jakarta and some other big cities is mainly caused by transportation, industry, domestic, and trash burning. Among those four pollution sources, transportation (motorized vehicles) is the most significant. Therefore, in order to solve the air pollution problem effectively, it has to be started from the transportation sector, and It is very important to do an intensive research which leads to a establishment of a test standard for exhaust gas pollution that is designed based on Indonesian condition. The application of a suitable dynamics exhaust gas pollution test standard is expected to support the pollution monitoring and control activities all over Indonesia, especially in big cities, so that the Indonesian air pollution can be reduced and maintained in a save level.

Abstract

In the present situation there is a tendency to avoid as far as possible the use of the synthetic substances as refrigerant which can destroy ozone layer and increase average contribute to the A much more safe philosophy must be to revert to natural refrigerants, substances which are already present in our environment. The use of C02 as refrigerant is one attempt to this approach. This new refrigeration technology use special cycle called "Lorentzen Cycle".  Lorentzen 's invention opened a wide way to enhance the refrigeration technology and brought a lot of applications that can use this new cycle. This paper try to explain the basic principle of"Lorentzen Cycle" and one of such applications which has being developed at Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Abstract

A simple correlation and prediction of β-carotene in supercritical CO2 involving cosolvents has been developed. Several cubic equations (EOS) and proper mixing rules are employed in correlating available experimental data of solubility fl-carotene in supercritical CO2 involving polar cosolvents. The studies found that strong interaction in the system involving polar cosolvents occurred for which binary interaction parameters should be adjusted for correlating solubility of β-carotene. The strong interaction could be possibly that of solute-solute, solute- cosolvent or cosolvent association. The simple model, however, can predict solubility of β-carotene in that system studied after adjusting binary interaction parameters.

Abstract

The performance of cyclone separator is measured by its capability to separate solid particles from dust laden gas flow and its pressure drop. The last parameter shows the energy used for running it. The cyclone having highest separation efficiency and lowest pressure drop is needed in the industrial application. It is the aim of this research work to study a modified cyclone in order to find a better performance than the classical cyclone type. The modification is employed by inclining the roof of cyclone. With this modification, the pressure drop could be reduced of about 50% without significantly reducing of separation efficiency. This paper presents an investigation of performance of the modified cyclone. This experiment proposes some empirical correlation of separation efliciency and pressure drop at various values of dust load.
