Abstract

This paper contains the testing of a spark ignition engine to observe the influence of the engine temperature variation on the ignition timing. The engine temperature of Toyota 7K equipped with EFI self developed by LMBSP is varied and the performance test is conducted over the variations of load and rpm, which simulate the real condition on the road. The aim of the experiments is to yield the ignition timing which produces the optimum performance at any load condition.

Abstract

Since the begining of the first world war, the development and production of aircraft, especiallythe aircraft engine is booming, due to the urgent need of several leading countries to compete and gain superiority in the air for its survival and also to achieve hegemony politically as well as in the field of economy.World aircraft and engine producer were all involved in this competition, supported by its national - research - industrial and technological as well as high education centers. Many engine types, with various technological - level and specification is now available in the world market. For the customer it is a necessity to evaluate and select out of all those products the best choice to complete the airfleet which suits to the need from operational - economical - and logistic point of view.

Abstract

This paper describes the study and implementation of enveloping method to detect a local bearing defect. First, it discusses the limitation of the conventional methode in bearing defect detention which is widely used in industry nowadays. The steps required to implement enveloping method are then studied and parameters influencing the success of detection process is identified. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the enveloping method, an experiment is performed to detect defect of a bearing with a simulated inner-race defect. The results of this study show that the enveloping method capable of detecting inner-race defect on a bearing in the situation where the conventional method fail to detect it.

Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical and experimental study on active control structure excited by seismic loads using artificial neural network Artificial neural network is used to calculate the control force based on acceleration of the structure which is obtained by accelerometer measurement. The control mechanism is implemented on the structure using active stiflness and mass based on continuous vibration measurement. The reability of the active control system with artificial neural network has been tested experimentally using a reduced model of two=storey steel flame excited by base acceleration through a small shaking table. The experimental study shows that the artificial neural network control method gives satisfactory results for many types of base excitation such as random and El-Centro N-S earthquake accelerations. The neuro control algorithm is simple and reduces consideranbly computational time.

Abstract

In this study, a mechanical fuel direct injection system is used in a two-stroke 70 cc gasoline engine. The injection system is using a high pressure pump (injection pump) and an injector (Nozzle) from a 5 hp diesel engine that mechanically is operated by a cam. The modifications on the two stroke gasoline engine are unthrottle intake system, additional hole in the cylinder head for the injector and a camshaft system. The camshaft is connected to the crankshaft. Theperformance of the engine is tested and the result is compared with the performance of the carburetor system engine in the same testing condition. The performance of the direct injectionsystem engine is better than the carburetor system engine in 1600-1750 rpm range. The power of the engine increases in about 143%, the specific fuel consumption decreases in about 35%, the thermal efficiency increases in about 59%, the air intake increases in about 244%, the scavenging efficiency increases in about 110% and the air-fuel ratio increases in about 116%. The improvement of the performance is caused by the increase of the air-fuel ratio also causing a lean combustion and an unthrottle intake process. But in other operation condition the mechanical fuel direct injection system cannot operate with good performance because the system cannot full fill the need of a complex system control.
