Abstract

Effect of two sampling techniques (i.e. corer and sipper samplers) of sediment pore water on measured concentrations of phosphate, nitrate and ammonia was examined. The concentrations of nitrate and ammonia in relation to sediment depth (vertical variations) collected by corer and sipper sampler do not show significant differences, while for phosphate concentrations significant differences occurred. The advantages   and disadvantages of both techniques are discussed.

Abstract

A satellite drifter that passed from south to north through Lombok Strait in early 1988 became trapped in a cyclonic eddy 100 km north of Lombok. The eddy, which was 130 km by 80 km, had a rotation period of 10 days.

Abstract

The investigation of feeding and egg production of the calanoid co pepod Temora stylifera was carried out between September and November 1988. The copepods were fed on natural ciliates and phytoplankton assemblage. Planktonic ciliates composed of 2.20 to 3.83 g C l -1 representing 15.2 to 58.7% of total biomass in standing stock. They were consumed by these copepods at rates ranging from 11.25 to 38.14 g C mg DW-1  d-1 or about 27.6 to 74.8% of total food consumed. The increase of ciliates/phytoplankton biomass ratio in the food consumed by the copepods in the all experiments indicates the preference for ciliates, in which as a good quality of food they can improve the rates of copepods egg production.

Abstract

Study on mean sea level (MSL) rise has been done on tide data at some locations in the Western Indonesia. To account the effect of climate change, air temperature analyses from some weather stations are also performed. The results showed that air temperature has changed between 0.0 to 0.44°C per ten years. The sea level analysis showed that mean sea level at Western Indonesia rise between 3.10 to 9.27 mm per year. Based on the results, the prediction on mean sea level change in the years of 2000, 2030, 2050 and 2100 for Cirebon location are 17 cm, 39 cm, 55 cm, and 92 cm, respectively.
