Abstract

Biogas technology is easy to be implemented and has a lot of raw materials available in various forms such aslivestock waste, agricultural waste, industrial waste and the like which has high organic matter. This study aimedto determine the biogas production, biogas yield, hydraulic retention time, and the quality of biogas made fromcassava and cassava leaves with cow dung as a starter. The experiments were performed using a completelyrandomized design (CRD) with four treatments and four repetitions. Substrate composition of cassava leaves, cassava tubers, and cow dung is A (15: 0: 85), B (0:15:85), C (0:25:75), and D (0:35:65). Variance analysisperformed using SAS statistical program. The results showed that the composition of the substrate significantlyaffect the total production of biogas, but did not significantly affect the productivity of biogas. The highestproduction of biogas obtained from C treatment amounting to 6,995 ml. The average yield of biogas is 130.85mL/g TVS. Biogas produced from treatment C and D burn easily and leave a blue flame indicates adequate contentof CH4 in biogas as a fuel. Keywords:biogas, cassava, cowdung, yield

Abstract

Mechanical damage that occurs in tomatoes only visible and probably most who do not know. Without realizingit experienced mechanical damage tomato fruit will make the tomatoes are not worth selling because the fruit isdamaged. This research aims to determine how much damage suffered mechanical damage tomatoes mechanicalvibrated at different times. Varieties of tomatoes used are tomato gondol at the age of 70-80 days of harvest. Inthis research, tomatoes put in a storage container as much as 3 squares and vibrated at different times. As manyas 20% of tomatoes which can not be used in the research because of a pest when planting and rub with a storagecontainer (pallet). The results showed that the tomatoes will suffer mechanical damage such as bruises, scars andwounds ruptured (perforated top). The length of time the magnitude of vibration could be the benchmark ofmechanical damage to the fruit. However, it must also show the hardness of tomatoes to be vibrated. Tomatoessuffered mechanical damage until the worst was bruised and perforated top so that the fruit is not worth selling.Mechanical damage which is obtained not only from research through visual or tangible, but found to be anumber. The highest value of weight loss is on T3L2 with a value of 2,07% by weight of the intensity valueshrinkage of 1,66%. Percentage of tomatoes are not worth selling at 6,79% due to the damage caused by theprovision of mechanical vibration, with wide intensity mechanical damage amounting to 3,08%.Keywords: Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill), mechanical damage, respiratory and climacteric.

Abstract

Drying process by using Para-para is more effective than the conventional one which uses floor surface or plastic(terpal). The products will dried faster and cleaner, nevertheless the system tomoveand to arrange the finalproductis wastes a lot of time and energy. Hence, the objective of this reasech was to make a semi-mechanicalPara-para drying shelf that integratedly connect to semi machanic box in order to save time and energy uses. Thissemi-mechanical drying device contained of two frames, four shelves, two ropes, two box movement holdings, boxes, spring, big pulley and small pulley. The process started bywaiving its hook from the shelves thus the treadlewould pull the other connected components to the shelves and automatically move to the box. The pulleys wereused to set the shelves movements to the boxes, consequently the box will consecutively move to next lowershelflevel after being filled Furthermore, filled boxes caused an increasing of tensile strength which also increasethe speed of box movement. Box retention rate was used to decrease the fourth shelf speed that will prevent loss. The device were tested by dryingcassava and soybean. Finally, the result showed that it only consume 1,19seconds to move and arrange the product with less manpower assistance. Moreover, Para-para were succesfullysave time and manpower compared to manual movement which only take approximately 11,83 seconds for eachshelf. Keywords: Drying, semi-mechanic drying shelf, Para-para.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the influence of the direction and thickness of turmeric slice on thephysical powder of turmeric powder. The treatments were two different of treatments cut vertical slices (cut fiber),horizontal (unidirectional fibers) and cut with three thicknesses (0.3 cm, 0.6 cm, and 0.9 cm). The measuredparameter were water content, angle of repose, fineness modulus, uniformity index, grain yield, bulk density, andthe flour color. The water content obtained wasn’t reached the Indonesia Standard Nasional which is still below12%, while the angle of repose has been good angle with the value 31°-41°. The fineness modulus as much as4.02% - 4.66%. Uniformity index grains with rough category has the highest amount than with the percentageof medium and smooth category, and the medium category on average direction of a cut fiber have percentagegreater than the unidirectional fiber although the difference is only a little. The percentage is still low grain yield<50%. Bulk density values obtained in this research ranged between 354.89 - 386.90 kg / m 3 . The resulting colorwasn’t much different and still in the desired category was yellow-orange. Different parameters affect the slicethickness uniformity index and grain yield of turmeric. The thicker slices of turmeric, then the index uniformityand yield of turmeric powder granules produced higher. Different directions slices and slice thickness differencedoes not affect the water content, angle of repose, fineness modulus, bulk density, and color of turmeric powder. Keywords: turmeric powder, slicesdirection, slice thickness, water content , angle of repose, bulk density.
