Abstract

This study aimed to compare the progesterone concentrations in Waringin sheep estrus cycle which induced by PGF2α or the combination of PGF2α and GnRH. This study used six Waringin sheep those were divided into twice groups, K1 and K2. K1(n=3) were injected by 7.5 mg PGF2α intramuscularly for 10 days, while K2 (n = 3) were injected by PGF2α and GnRH. On the first day K2 were injected by 7.5 mg PGF2α, then followed by injection 50 µg of GnRH on day 8th and re-injected by 7.5 mg PGF2α on day 15th. On day 18th, sample was re-injected using 50 µg GnRH. Waringin sheep those showed estrus symptoms were detected visually and with signs showed by sheep stud. Blood samples were taken on the 7th, 14th, and 21st day after the peak heat. The measurement of progesterone concentration was conducted by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The results showed those the concentrations of progesterone on day 7th, 14th, and 21st on K1 vs K2 were 1.324±1.079, 7.607±8.922, and 5.220±1.653  vs 4.705±3.369, 4.184±5.512, and 1.797±0.898 ng/mL (P>0,05), respectively. In conclusion, the concentration of progesterone of Waringin sheep after inducing with PGF2α or combination PGF2α and GnRH at different cycle periode did not show differences. Keywords: Estrus Cycle, GnRH, PGF2α, Progesterone, Waringin Sheep

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of adding vitamin E and selenium as feed additives on the performance of artificially inseminated laying hens. The material used in this research was a 34-week-old laying hen strain of Isa Brown as many as 100 laying hens in artificial insemination. Artificial insemination was done by crossing buras chickens with females from laying hens. Artificial insemination was done every 4 days. This research used statistical analysis using ANOVA with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which used 5 treatments and 5 replications where each treatment and each replication consisted of 4 laying hens. If there is a real difference or very real influence,it will continued using Duncan's test. The treatment feed in this research are as follows: P0 = Basal Feed, P1 = Basal Feed + 21.75 ppm vitamin E and 0.23 ppm selenium, P2 = Basal Feed + 43.5 ppm vitamin E and 0.46 ppm selenium, P3 = Basal Feed + 65.25 ppm vitamin E and 0.69 ppm selenium, P4 = Basal Feed + 87 ppm vitamin E and 0.92 ppm selenium. The results obtained in this research were the addition of vitamin E and selenium in feed had a significant effect (P <0.05) on feed consumption and protein consumption, and also had a very significant effect (P <0.01) on Hen Day Production (HDP) and FCR, but it did not provide significant effect (P> 0.05) on egg weight. The best dose addition of vitamin E and selenium is vitamin E by 87 ppm and Selenium by 0.92 ppm. Keywords : Artificial Insemination, Feed Additives, Performance Of Laying Hens, Selenium, Vitamin E

Abstract

Kefir is a fermented milk product that has the typical flavours (acids and alcohol) and its processed by a number of microbes which include lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and yeasts. The aims of this study were to know the character of the population of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), a population of yeasts, and chemical characters among others total acid, pH and alcohol levels in kefir milk with inoculum ragi tape. The population of LAB and the population of yeast were calculated with the method of calculation of Total Plate Count. The levels of total acid titration method were determined by the acid. Acidity was measured using a pH meter and alcohol levels were determined by the method of Conway Micro Diffusion. The results showed that the number of LAB has increased to 24 hour fermentations of 9.01 log cells/ml (1,1x109 cells/ml), then the number of cells did not change much until the fermentation time was 48 hours and 72 hours of fermentation on the decline of 8.07 log cells /ml (1,2x108 cells/ml) while the yeast experiences increased from 6 hours to 24 hours, then the amount of yeast did not much change from the 24 to 72 hours of the highest number of yeasts during fermentation 48 hours an amount of 6.12 log cells /ml (1,3x106 cells/ml) and the amount of yeasts did not decline at the time of 72 hours. Total acid continued to experience increased with the number of 0.38-1.24%, pH continued to decline from 6,47-4.27 and alcohol levels continued to experience increased with the number of 0.05-0.38% b/v. Keywords: Inoculum, Kefir Milk, Lactic Acid Bacteria, Ragi Tape, Yeast

Abstract

This study aims to determine the performance of F2 resulting from crossing (Layer Stud vs. Hatcher resulting in pullet F1, F1 mated with Layer Male, resulting in F2). Performance of F2 given ration with levels of Crude Protein (CP) 16% and 18%, as well as “Herbs“. The research was carried out in a Completely Randomized Design 2 x 4 factorial pattern. Protein factors were 2 kinds of rations with Crude Protein levels of 16% and 18% of metabolic energy 3062.40 and 3013.20 kcal/kg. Herbs factor were doses of herbal dosage 0, 1, 2, 3 g/kg ration. Each treatment was repeated 4 times. Data collection performance were include rationing, giving protein, egg weight, and chicken day production, and mild shells. The results showed those the level of crude and herbal protein had no interaction, and the level of crude protein which was different was not significant (P> 0.05) on feed consumption and was significantly different (P<0.05) against crude protein consumption. Herbal treatments with doses of 1, 2 and 3 g/kg of rations did not show significant differences (P> 0.05) on feed consumption, ration crude protein, egg weight, and thick shell, but significantly different (P<0.05) from the production of hen day at without herbal treatment. Keywords: Crossbreed, Herbal Ration, Herbs, Performance, Protein Ration

Abstract

Worm disease is a disease caused by infestation of worms in the body of animals with minimal risk to cause death, but causes losses in the form of decreased body weight, milk production, body resistance to other diseases and stunted growth, especially goats at a young age. Population of goats in Lampung Province is the third largest position in Indonesia that it is important to know the effects that can be caused due to intestinal worms. The purpose of this study was to determine the ratio of goat body weight infestated by various types of intestinal worms so that the researchers knew the impact of digestive tract worms infestation on goat body weight. The study was conducted in the period July - October 2018 in the Budi Lestari Livestock Group, Gedong Tataan, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province. The type of goat used in the study was the Etawa Breeders Goat. The method is a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments, namely the group of uninfested goats (P1); goat infested with 1 type of worm (P2); goat infested with 2 types of worms (P3); goats infected with 3 types of worms (P4); and goats infected with 4 types of worms (P5). Implementation procedures were (1) conducting a survey of PE goat populations; (2) Determining the age of PE goats; (3) Taking feces; (4) Identifying worm eggs (Mc Master Test and Sedimentation Test); (5) Determine samples; (6) Considering body weights; (7) Data tabulation and analysis. Data analysis was carried out using One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) method at a 95% confidence level with SPSS 24 software program, if there were significant differences then proceed with the Least Significant Differences (LSD) and Duncan Test. The results of the data analysis showed that there were no significant differences between treatments (p> 0.05), but based on the average data of PE goats body weight from various treatments the highest in the treatment group that did not infest worm infestation (P1) was 25.25 kg, continued to decline respectively P2 (19.00 kg), P3 (18.25 kg), P4 (16.00 kg), P5 (15.25 kg). The conclusion of the study is the more types of worm infestations in the body, the lower of PE goats body weight. Keywords: Body Weight, Etawa Breed Goat, Infestation, Intestinal Worms, Types of Worm
