Abstract

The increasing and varied use of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as antimicrobial on consumer products increases the risk of the nanomaterial release into the environment and potentially harm beneficial microorganisms in soil. Any change in soil microbial composition will lead to soil quality degradation that eventually reduce crop productivity. The negative effect of AgNPs on soil microorganism has been reported by researchers. There are technologies employed to remove heavy metals from soil such as chemical, physical, and biological technique. However, chemical and physical techniques have some disadvantages e.g high cost and partial removal. Therefore, biological technique including the use of microorganisms (bioremediation) become more favourable. The technique is considered as cost effectiveness and environmentally sustainable method. The present paper summarizes the impact of AgNPs on soil microorganisms and the use of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, algae, and yeast) to eliminate heavy metals pollution in soil.

Abstract

The lack of domestic wastewater management services in the Cibabat River Basin has resulted in the Cibabat River being a place to collect domestic wastewater. This of course can reduce water quality  as well as reduce the function of the river itself.  The Cibabat river is known to be a sub-watershed of the Citarum River with a surface   area of  1,855 km2. Activities in the Cibabat watershed  contribute  to the pollution load that  causes the water quality of the Cibabat River to decline, which of course has an impact on the decrease  in the quality of the river and increase  in the polluting  load that the river will receive. The research method uses the calculation of the pollutant  load based on Permen LH 115/2003. The data used are  secondary data from DLH Cimahi City, which  conducted a water quality analysis at three points during  three different seasons in 2019. One of the steps to overcome and control the pollution that occurs is to determine the actual pollutant load so that it can easily determine the application of effective technology  for controlling river water pollution  in the Cibabat River at theCimahi City.

Abstract

Ultisol soil is a less fertile soil characterized by low soil fertility rate, high acidity with pH5, high Al saturation. This land has an area of 25% of the total land area of Indonesia. Riau Island is one of the provinces dominated by Ultisol land, so many land is not productive to use as agricultural land. This research was conducted to look at the characteristics of red soil in the agricultural land in Batam City after mixed with organic material in this case which is used is goat manure and chicken manure. From the results of research, the addition of goat manure and chicken manure that is incubated for 30 days can already give changes to the physical and chemical character of the soil, such as soil becoming more loose, having higher water content, increasing soil C organic, Nitorgen, P2O5, K, Mg, and Mn, able to reduce Fe levels in the soil. The addition of chicken manure can increase the available of Phosphate, gives K, Mg, and Mn higher than compared mixing blanko with goat manure. The addition of goat manure can increase the total of C organic and N in the soil is higher than chicken manure.

Abstract

Population growth greatly influences changes in land use, and the Cimahi Watershed (DAS) is also experiencing these changes.  The change in land use has resulted in reduced water  quality in the Cimahi River. Water pollution in the Cimahi River is greatly influenced by the discharges from the Cimahi River watershed facilities. This research identifies  a master plan for wastewater management in the Cimahi watershed to improve water quality of the Cimahi River  and establishes a Domestic Wastewater Management System (SPALD) in the Cimahi Watershed region . Wastewater management provisions are regulated by PermenPUPR No. 4 of 2017 through a series of screening. As a result of a series of screenings conducted for the Cimahi watershed, which consists of seven sub-districts, only one sub-district can use the Centralized SPALD, namely Cimahi Village. Two sub-districts of the Cimahi watershed did not meet the  population density selection criteria , and five sub-districts  within the Cimahi watershed did not meet the criteria for a depth review.  Follow-up screening, such as groundwater  permeability, ability to fund , and  slope of the land for all urban villages met the screening criteria.

Abstract

The existence of microalgae in water -provides many benefits especially for biological treatments of wastewater. Microalgae have many species and are chlorophyll microorganisms. Photosynthesis carried out by microalgae requires essential nutrients such as CO2. Carbon dioxide can be obtained by symbiosis from other microorganisms, such as EM4, which can be used to decompose complex organic compounds into simple compounds (CO2). The addition of EM4 must be appropriate to make the photosynthesis process in microalgae take place optimally. Therefore, this study aims to determine the optimal dose variation of EM4 in the microalgae in the reactor. With variations in the doses tested were 0 mL, 1 mL, and 2 mL. The research was conducted by making artificial wastewater from liquid NPK, diluting it with tap water with a ratio of 1: 300. The test was carried out using a batch system, with solar lighting and aeration for 24 hours. The result of the best dose variation is the addition of 1 mL of EM4.  The largest decrease in ammonia levels is obtained which is then compared to the variation of the doses of 0 mL and 2 mL.
