Abstract

This study aims to determine the best smoking time in the process of processing smoked salted eggs by analyzing the water content, pH, total phenol and organoleptic in smoked salted eggs. This study used a completely randomized design, namely smoking eggs with different lengths of time having four treatment levels, namely P1 = 130 minutes, P2 = 150 minutes, P3 = 170 minutes, P4 = 190 minutes. The required smoking time is 20 sample units. The variables measured were water content, pH, total phenol and organoleptic including color, taste, texture and preference. Parameter testing includes water content, pH first tested for normality using the Shapiro-Wilk test. If the data distribution is normal, it is continued with Duncan's Multiple Region test. Total phenol was tested descriptively and organoleptic testing (color, taste, texture and preference) using the Kruskal-Walis Non-parametric test and continued, the Man Witney significant difference test. The results of this study indicate that different lengths of smoking time can have a significant effect (<0.05) on water content, pH and organoleptic. The smoking time of 190 minutes can reduce water content, pH but increase panelists' acceptance of organoleptic (color, taste, texture and preference) in eggs and the presence of antioxidant activity.

Abstract

The study aims to measure the reproductive potential of Pasundan bulls through the relationships between scrotal circumference, body weight with sperm production. Semen was collected twice from five sexually mature Pasundan bulls aged 3-5 years old using an artificial vagina and evaluated macro- and microscopically. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20 with One-Way ANOVA methode and the relationship between variables using Pearson correlation (r). The result showed no differences in the scrotal circumference (25±2.45 cm), body weight (306.08±10.86 kg), volume (3.80±0.58 ml), and spermatozoa concentration (1355.85±6.06×106/ml) in Pasundan bulls. The results showed that scrotal circumference parameters were related to body weight and spermatozoa production (semen volume and spermatozoa concentration) in Pasundan bulls.

Abstract

Chicken eggs are in great demand by the public, because apart from being easy to obtain, the price is quite affordable, has a high nutritional content, tastes good and can be processed into various kinds of food products. The growth of poultry will form a curve with a certain mathematical model. Objectives of the study 1) To determine the shape of the egg production curve at CV Candi Farm aged 20-90 weeks. 2) Obtain the most appropriate equation for estimating the egg production curve at CV Candi Farm aged 20-90 weeks. 3) Obtain actual and estimated standards of chicken egg production at CV Candi Farm aged 20-90 weeks. The data used for this study were taken from CV Candi Farm. The models tested in this study are the Wood model, the Mc Nally model, the Mc Millan model, the compartment model, the Yang model, the Adams-Bell model, and the logistics model. The results showed that the egg production curve was sigmoid in shape. Egg production increases rapidly in the first weeks of production until it reaches a peak at week 43. After reaching the peak, egg production continued to decline at a decreasing rate of about 1-5% per week, the most appropriate equation for estimating chicken egg production at CV Candi Farm aged 20-90 weeks was the Adams-Bell model with R2 = 0.9892, r = 0.989, and SE = 1.269 and the actual production standard and the estimated egg production of CV Candi Farm chicken eggs aged 20-90 weeks is the Adams-Bell model.

Abstract

This experiment was conducted to study the effect of feeding rubber leaves supplemented with probiotics (Bacillus pumilus st. L1) on the number of eggs worm and the prevalence of worms in the digestive tract of ettawa cross-breed goats. Twelve lactating ettawa cross-breed goats were allocated into three group using randomized block design to received fours experiment ration consist; P1 (0% rubber leaves + 60% native grass) + 40% concentrate, P2 ( 15% rubber leaves + 45% native grass) + 40% concentrate+ probiotics, P3: (30% rubber leaves + 30 % native grass) + 40% concentrate+ probiotics, and P4 (45% rubber leaves + 15% native grass) + 40% concentrate+ probiotics. The concentrate was formulated using 38% rice brans, 28% corn meal, 27% soybean meal, 5% coconut cake, 1% salt, and 1% minerals mix. Bacillus pumilus st. L1 with a concentration of 2.8 x 1017 CFU/ml was used as a probiotic source and supplemented with 1% in the ration. The variables measured were dry matter intake and the total of eggs worm per gram of feces. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The experiment result showed that the increased use of rubber leaves supplemented with 1% probiotics had a significant (P<0.05) increase in dry matter intake (g/head/day), had a significant (P<0.05) decrease in the total of eggs worm, and increase percentage of the total of eggs worm reduced. The experiment result concluded that the use of 45% rubber leaves supplemented with 1% of probiotics ( Bacillus pumilus St. L1) in the rations had the ability to reduce egg worms up to 75% in the digestive tract of lactating ettawa cross-breed goats.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to evaluate the use of lemuru fish oil as palm oil substitution in ration on broiler performance. This research used 200 Ross broilers day old chick (DOC) is divided into 4 treatments and 5 replications. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD), where the treatments level of palm oil and lemuru fish oil were respectively P0 = rations containing 3% palm oil and 0% lemuru fish oil, P1 = rations containing 2% palm oil and 1% lemuru fish oil, P2 = rations containing 1% palm oil and 2% lemuru fish oil, P3 = rations containing 0% palm oil and 3% lemuru fish oil. The variables observed were feed intake, final body weight, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio (FCR), mortality, and income over feed and chick cost (IOFCC). The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The significant result (P<0,05) were followed by Duncan test. The results showed a significant effect (P<0.05) in decreasing FCR in the starter period with a higher level of use of lemuru fish oil, increasing body weight gain and decreasing FCR in the finisher period with a lower level of use of lemuru fish oil, but the treatments did not significantly effect on performance broiler during the age of 35 days. Weight and percentage of internal organs and digestive tract under normal conditions, except liver weight. The conclusion of this study was the use of 3% lemuru fish oil can improve FCR in the starter phase, but the different level of palm oil and lemuru fish oil until 3 % in broiler rations does not affect on broiler performance during the age of 35 days.

Abstract

KUB chicken is native Indonesian chicken resulted from crossbreeding program conducted by Indonesian Research Institute for Animal Production (Balitnak). Feed is one of the factors that determine chicken farming productivity. The cost of commercial feed is relatively high. Black soldier fly larvae meal is potential alternative which can be used to substitute fishmeal which is one of the most expensive ingredients used in commercial feed. BSF larvae meal contains 40.2% crude protein, 28% crude fat, 2.36% calcium, and 0.88% phosphorus. This study was aimed at assessing the performance of KUB chickens fed BSF larvae meal used as the substitute for fishmeal in ration. The study was conducted within 75 days from 1 April to 15 June 2021 at Nambo Peuntas, Suka Jaya Village, Taman Sari District, Bogor Regency. One-hundred KUB chickens aged 1 day with average body weight of 29.77±2.94 were allocated evenly into 20 experimental cage units in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replicates. Treatment consisted of rations containing 0% BSF larvae meal + 10 % fishmeal (R0), 2.5% BSF larvae meal + 7.5 % fishmeal (R1), 5% BSF larvae meal + 5% fishmeal (R2), 7.5% BSF larvae meal + 2.5% fishmeal (R3), and 10% BSF larvae meal + 0 % fishmeal (R4). Results showed that no significant differences (P>0.05) in the performance of KUB chickens were found. It was concluded that BSF larvae meal could be used to substitute the whole fishmeal in rations of KUB chickens without any detriment to the chicken performance.

Abstract

Soybean meal is one of the main feeds used in commercial poultry rations. However, this feed is relatively expensive as most of it is still imported.  Indigofera leaf meal (ILM), with its good nutrient content and relatively low cost, is a potential feed to be used as a substitute for soybean cake meals.  This study aimed to assess the meat nutrient contents of KUB chickens fed a ration containing ILM as a substitute for soybean  meals.  The study was conducted in Nambo Peuntas, Sukajaya Village, Taman Sari District, Bogor Regency, West Java, from 1 April to 15 June 2021.  One hundred unsexed one-day-old KUB chickens were allocated into five treatments and four replicates in a completely randomized design.  Treatments consisted of the substitution of soybean cake meal with ILM by 0% (R0, control), 25% (R1), 50% (R2), 75% (R3), and 100% (R4).  Measurements were taken on meat protein, fat, water, and ash contents.  Data were subjected to an analysis of variance and a Duncan test.  Results showed that substituting soybean cake meals with ILM could maintain the meat nutrient contents of KUB chickens.
