Abstract

In this paper, we define event expression over sentences of natural language and semantic relations between events. Based on this definition, we formally consider text understanding process having events as basic unit.

Abstract

The main purpose of the study was to develop a Human Resource e-Leave Management System for the university that will be more efficient and synchronized than the current manual system. In order to have an efficient and effective management of leave transactions, the web-based system was designed and implemented with modules on leave applications, leave balances monitoring, records management, administration, and install the business intelligence technique to aid in the decision making activities of the HRDM Officer and the Management. It offers streamlined operations, fair application of leave policies, introduction of more statistical reports and a more productive workforce. The development methods used were Process Modeling and UML diagrams.  The tools and languages used in developing the system were Ajax, Adobe Flash and Flash Player, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5 and CSS3 for the client-side coding and PHP for the server-side coding.  MySQL was used for the database and XAMPP as the web server.  The development environment was Eclipse Web Tools Platform, and the development framework was CodeIgniter. Structured questionnaires were used to conduct the Preliminary Survey, System Usability and Web Usability Evaluation. The main findings of this study revealed that the system is fully compliant with the standard System Usability Guidelines. Likewise, the Web Usability showed that the employees strongly agreed on the implementation of the system in order to have a quick response and access to information.  The results of the Web Accessibility test also showed that the completed system is error-free and passed the standard guidelines for Web Accessibility.

Abstract

The growth of information technology is increasing lately. People can get the actual information from websites. The combination between website and expert system will help people to make an application that can think like an expert and spread it all around the world using the internet. The technology can be used to solve the availability problem of expert nutrient in Indonesia. The application was developed using forward chaining method as the inference system. It will make the application work like a nutrient expert, which asks the patient from general to specified symptoms. The knowledge based of the application was collected from trusted resources like nutrient experts and nutrient books. The application was tested by the nutrient expert. The result shows that the application can work properly like an expert.

Abstract

This study aims to design and build an expert system that can diagnose damage to the television set based on the type and characteristics of the damage by using backward chaining method. The expert system in this study has been designed and built using the backward chaining method. It starts by proving the preliminary conclusions based on direct observations of users of the damage type to the television set that will be repaired, and the results show the facts and the rules appropriate to the type and characteristics of the damage to the television set. The expert system was proved capable of receiving, storing, and transferring knowledge from experts or repair technicians of the damage to the television set according to the type and characteristics of the actual damage to the television set. This expert system also proved to be able to function properly to diagnose problem of the television set based on the type and characteristics of the damage.

Abstract

In the past, web-based chat application didn’t consider security as part of must-have requirement, thus many insecure examples were broken in short time after it was released. Data sniffing is one common attack that could be used to attack insecure applications because the data was transferred using an insecure medium, which is HTTP. We propose a new web-based chat application that is built based on HTML5 WebSocket technology using Socket.IO library to improve confidentiality of the messages sent between two or multiple parties. We combine it with NodeJS and Express to facilitate real-time discussion between client and server and vice versa. We also use Rijndael (known as AES - Advanced Encryption Standard) to make sure that the message stays confidential and only known by sender and receiver. To satisfy the integrity property, we apply SHA-3 hash function. By combining SSL/TLS, AES, and SHA-3 hash function, we have added multiple layer of security inside this application and no additional effort needed by the user. Based on conducted experiments, we can conclude that this application could satisfy security requirements (confidentiality and integrity), either on the client or server side.

Abstract

This paper will discuss an automatic recognition system to facilitate the activities of reading and recording of the electricity kWh meter. The system will analyze a captured image of the electricity kWh meter display using character recognition method. Prior to applying this method, each photo image of the kWh meter display will be pre-processed (i.e. converting the image to grayscale and determining the threshold). To detect the kWh meter display area, a smearing approach will be applied which connected the component labeling to character segmentation. To recognize each number, a template matching will be used. This study show that these steps were not yields good result in recognizing the characters in the electricity kWh meter. This is due to several factors, such as the persistence of noise that interfered with the character recognition, camera angles, lighting effect and the effect of the smearing limit.

Abstract

Data compression is a very important process in the world that has been vastly using digital files, such as for texts, images, sounds or videos. Those digital files has a varied size and often taking disk storage spaces. To overcome this problem, many experts created compression algorithms, both for lossy and lossless compression. This research discusses about testing of four lossless compression algorithms that applied for text files, such as LZ77, Static Huffman, LZ77 combined with Static Huffman, and Deflate. Performance comparison of the four algorithms is measured by obtaining the compression ratio. From the test results can be concluded that the Deflate algorithm is the best algorithm due to the use of multiple modes, i.e. uncompressed mode, LZ77 combined with Static Huffman mode, and LZ77 combined with Dynamic Huffman Coding mode. The results also showed that the Deflate algorithm can compress text files and generates an average compression ratio of 38.84%.

Abstract

Indonesian’s Batik is one of culture heritage that recognized around the world. Batik has many variations of pattern based on their region. In this research, Batik would be used as subject for texture feature extraction. The value of this feature extraction would be used for classification using K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) method. Texture Feature Extraction components that used in this research were Entropy, Correlation, Homogeneity, and Energy. This research will investigate which component would give dominant effect for Batik’s pattern recognition. Batik pattern used in this research is pattern from Yogyakarta region. There are four patterns namely Ceplok, Parang, Semen, and Nitik. The result showed that there was no component from Texture Feature Extraction that gave dominant effect (average = 53,96%). Component with the highest value of accuracy is Correlation with a percentage of 55,83%. Whereas for K-NN classification, the best accuracy is 60% for K = 5.

Abstract

Education game is a media used as a learning tool. In this research, we built a learning application of animal and fruit names vocabulary in English. Users of the application are 4 to 6 years old children. The purpose of this research is to build an application   that can improve children’s ability to remember and enrich their Vocabulary. For the user interface design we implement Goal Directed Design Method. This Method consists of eight main stages, which is research, modeling, requirements, definition, framework definition, refinement, and support. Participants of this research were 18 children aged 4 to 6 years. Based of the evaluation of the application, all participants are able to increase their ability to remember animal and fruit names by about 10%.
