Abstract

This study attempts to solve common problems faced in ceramic finishing. Finishing ceramic objects is different from resolving other matters. Glaze is a type of glass coating that is applied to coat the ceramic object. This is an interesting layer to be studied because the success of glaze applications in ceramics is influenced by many factors. Glaze applications on ceramic objects have a very high level of difficulty. The difficulty is seen in glaze formulas, application techniques, firing temperature, shrinkage of dry matter and the successful achievement of color after glazing the combustion process. This research is to determine whether the clay character influence on the success rate of the color will appear. The research method uses the experimental method. This method is considered more appropriate to determine the level of success of an experiment relating to the material containing chemical elements. The research is done in the studio ceramics P4TK Art and Culture of Yogyakarta. The clay used is a type of stoneware clay which has five classes of characters. They are as follows: 1. Pacitan soil, wet soil that has a reddish color, 2. Singkawang soil, wet soil that has a whitish colour, 3.Sukabumi has a brightly colored ground and wet floor is beige, with 4. Sukabumi, the dark ground, wet soil that has a dark brown color, 5. Bojonegoro soil, wet soil that has a light brown color. The five characters color glazing that shall be applied on the surface of clay are: 1. young Greens, 2. Pink, and 3. Greenish blue, 4. Brown 5. Dark blue. The character of clay has relatively large contribution to the emergence of color glaze in accordance to the purpose or the plan, especially when using a formula based on the glossy glaze. Glaze formula will tend to be stable when there is a combination of stain with a glade oxide. Stable formula can also be found on the matched glaze because its glaze was close or not transparent. Coloring oxides are very sensitive to the character of soil. temperature change is cobalt and fee, experiment that required in advance when the formula contains two types of oxide glaze. Burning with the reduction or oxidation also will give effect to the glaze colors that will appear. Keywords: experiment, five colors glaze, five characters clay

Abstract

Study the creation of works of performance art “The Light of Clear Soul” is a study of the creation of works that explore the performance art, space and light. The form of mywork is explores space, practical and elastic that can be presented anywhere, either in the conventional stage, in the parks, in the forest, in a public toilet, or on the street. The form and the essence of its performance over the motion and the selected symbol. In this work performance, the light becomes important as one of the aesthetic elements. This work not only in the spot light like a standard show, but also flexible in accordance with the conditions and needs, such as spot lights, flashlights, lanterns, candles, or even a slide projector or video projector though. This work is actually very open, kind of ideas and forms. Even open to get in on the area of collaborative work. With my idea of an artist as a performer and installator (because of my art background) then no wonder I create works that will be open to the other performer-based dance, music and theater. The study uses the method of creation is the creation of works that have several stages of phase observation, experimentation phase and creating phase works. In the observation phase in addition to the observations of some performance art in person and also the documentation of a location that will be used. It is given such importance in the performance art space. Furthermore, the findings were used by the author as the basis for the creation of premises experimentation space and light which then continued into a work of performance art intact. Forms of performance art whose works are just that moment will be tricked by audiovisual documentation that could later be accounted for in a long time. Abstract

Batik is one of the Indonesian’s prides. The government, batik craftsman, and people have tried many efforts to preserve batik. We have to be proud of for based on the decision of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) it is decided that batik Indonesia is considered to be an intangible cultural Heritage of Humanity. Batik as a uniform of a community or an institution is actually able, psychologically, to bring it to the sense of kinship, togetherness, and solidarity. Batik as a uniform is also able to form people’s brand image toward the community or institution. It means that, indirectly, imaging of a certain community or institution can be built up by the uniform adjusted to its vision and mission. One of the efforts is through “Penciptaan Motif Batik Untuk Seragam (Uniform) Civitas Akademika ISI Surakarta Sebagai Upaya Pencitraan Institusi Yang Berkarakter” (Creating A Batik Motive for Uniform of All Staffs in ISI Surakarta as An Effort to the Imaging of A Characteristic Institution). The motives that can be created have some elements that are motives of logo ISI Surakarta, the gate of ISI Surakarta, Pendapa (grand hall), book and lotus flower as well as plants “lung”. The motive elements are held together to be the symbol of ISI Surakarta as a home for togetherness in reaching the highest ideals in the field of science, art and culture including education, research, and workmanships, as well as community services by upheld the sustainable honesty and integrity.
