Abstract

The film Sang Kiai was created based on the biographical history of a person who played a significant role in the Battle of Surabaya on November 10, 1945, a pivotal event in Indonesian history. This film chronicles the story of K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari, a great scholar from Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, the founder and leader of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the largest Islamic religious mass organization in Indonesia, as well as a national hero. Accordingly, this study proposes a research problem of the extent to which anthropocentrism theology serves as the foundation for the Islamic conception of K.H. Hasyim Asyari in the movie Sang Kiai. The study of the film Sang Kiai applied an anthropocentric theological reading approach and a qualitative descriptive methodology. The study’s findings reveal that K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari utilized anthropocentric theology to raise Muslims’ awareness to fight the practices of colonialism and break free from its shackles while also fighting the ignorance of aqidah. In sum, anthropocentric theology is the basis for the legitimacy and principles of the Islamic conception of K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari’s attitudes, behavior, thought patterns, and actions to overcome Muslims’ problems.

Abstract

Instagram is a social media platform for publishing photographic works. Lee Jeffries, one of the most renowned portrait photographers, consistently exposes his works to the general public, including through the social media platform Instagram. His photographic works are considered highly interesting and unique due to their capacity to transmit social messages. Lee Jeffries consistently captures photographs of homeless people worldwide to convey social messages to his audience. This motivates the authors to discuss the meaning of visual messages in Lee Jeffries' works. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach to analyze the photographs’ composition, color, and symbolic meaning. The results show that the application of symmetrical and asymmetrical compositions and colors for portraits of human faces, especially those of the homeless on urban street corners, produced symbolic meanings, including sadness, emotion, and happiness.Instagram is a social media platform for publishing photographic works. Abstract

Children are arguably less motivated to consume vegetables. At the same time, animated films as learning media are considered effective in evoking emotion and influencing the audience. Consequently, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia created the animated film "Ayo Makan Sayur dan Buah" as a campaign to encourage children to consume vegetables. This study seeks to determine the visuals of animated vegetable characters used to motivate children to consume vegetables. This qualitative research employed a case study method referring to the manga matrix theory and the anthropomorphic approach in design review as a data analysis technique. This study's anthropomorphic approach indicates that the design of vegetable characters in the animated film "Ayo Makan Sayur dan Buah" has not been fully optimized to evoke children's emotions because it is still influenced by other verbal messages in the film.
