Abstract

This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of alkalinity on the survival rate and daily growth rate of Barbodes sp. The fishes were reared in 12 aquariums with four different alkalinity levels 48, 78, 108 and 138 ppm. Each aquarium filled with 10 fish at the average weight of 12.25 to 12.64 g attempt. The treatment lasted for 75 days. During the experiment, the fish were given commercial diet (pellet) with the dose of 5% of biomass weight at the frequency of three times a day. Result of the experiment showed that the survival rate for all treatments was 100%, while the alkalinity which suitable for daily growth rate of the fish was 80 ppm C’aCOr

Abstract

Study was done from May to November 2003 in Mayangan coastal, West Java. Fish samples taken once in a month. Laboratory analysis comprises measuring of total length and body weight; sex determination; and morphological and histological observation of gonad maturity. Total samples is 970 fishes, comprises 528 male, 326 female, and 80 indeterminate sexually. Samples is in the size range 45-208 mm total length and 1.38 - 145.7 grams body weight. Presumably, fish spawn every month with peak spawning in August and it attain first maturity at least 88 mm (male) and 95 mm (female). Gonado somatic index (GSI) of male among 0,0105-3,3021%, while female have GSI among 0,2076-6,0658%. In size range 83-208 mm, fecundity is among 1.496-57.845 eggs, and this value have very close relationship with gonad weight. Observation of frequency distribution of eggs diameter show that fish spawn their eggs all at once (total spawner).

Abstract

The research was conducted in Mayangan coastal, Pamanukan, West Java from June-November 2003. The collected fish are 323 females and 195 males. The fish is carnivorous, euryphagic and bottom feeder. The primary food is crustacean and fishes, the additional is polychaetas, gastropods, pelecypods and sipunculidea. The food quality and quantity are relatively the same between the females and males. The inter class size niche breadth and the sexual food overlap shown the food competition between them happened. But based on the value of condition factor which is relatively stable. The food competition is little, because maybe the food resoueces is enough.

Abstract

The study was conducted to obtained food habits of blowfish, comprises relative consumption food and composition of food. Fish sample taken by dogol net with mesh size 1; 1.5 and 2.5 inchi. The collected fish was 253 males and 317 females. Fish sample taken once in month using net with mesh size 1; 1.5 and 2.5 inch. Food analysis determined by using Index Stomach Content (ISC) and Index of Preponderance. Food composition comprises fish, shells, gastropods, shrimp, crabs, squids, serasah and unintified.

Abstract

A study on food habit of Fringescale Sardinella, Sardinella fimbriata Val. in Kendari Bay was conducted from March to December 2003. This research aims to observe food habits and feeding periodicity of the fish and relation of the food habits and plankton, food habit was determined by using Index of Relative Importance method. Result of the study indicates that fringescale Sardinella is plankton feeder and taking its food by filtering. Important diet of fish is Bacillariophyceae and Crustacea.

Abstract

Mahalona, Lantoa and Masapi Lakes are three of the five beautiful lakes in South Sulawesi, the other two lakes are Matano and Town ti which bigger than those three. During the Dutch gouvemements there were several expedition to one, two or the five lakes. Rudolf Woltereck was the first biologist which visited and collected fishes from the all of the five lakes and published it in 1933. During 1988-1989, Dr, Maurice Kottelat recollected the fishes and found one new genus and about 8 new species, also designated the neotype of one species from Lake Towuti. A collaborative team between Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Bogor Agriculture University and Forestry Department received a grant from Asean Regional Center for Biodiversity Conservation (ARCBC) to conduct the research in the five lakes. The results of this research are being reported in a series of scientific journal. The fish biodiversity of Lake Matano already published. This paper is the result of our interesting adventure to reach the three lakes and reporting their fish biodiversity. Twelveof the 17 of Mahalona’s fishes are the endemic species, while in Lake Lantoa there was 4 of the twelve and in Lake Masapi was only one of the twelve endemic fish species.
