Abstract

Research on fish diversity was carried out from August to October 2009 with three times of sampling in three stations in Kendari Bay, Southeast Sulawesi. Fish collection using experimental gillnets (with different mesh sizes %, 1, 1%, 1%, 2, 3, and 4 inch) and seser (0 1 meter and mesh size 0.04 inch). During research, 45 species of 30 families were collected. Based on individual quantities, at the first sampling, Sardinella fimbriata was dominant species on Station I and II, S. longiceps on Station III; in the second sampling, S. fimbriata was dominant species on Station I, S. longiceps on Station II, Plotosus canius on S3; in the third sampling, Ambassis sp. was dominant species on Station I, S.longiceps on Station II, Upeneus suphureus and Stolephorus commersonii on S3. Diversity index (H’) was range between 0.512.25, dominance index (C) was range between 0.16-0.83 and evenness index (E) was range between 0.19-0.75.

Abstract

A study that head for to find out some aspects biology reproduction of climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) in floodplains of Mahakam River, East Kalimantan that have been conducted of November until January with survey method. Floodplain in the Mahakam River is one of area freshwater fishing which plays an important role for East Kalimantan’s societies. Results research suggested that classified water quality from Mahakam’s drainage basin floodplain as still be able to support of climbing perch life. Climbing perch has growth patterns as a whole is negative allometric (b<3). Most Climbing perch are caught are fish had entered the GMR 3 and 4 (gonado maturity). Climbing perch classified potentially high reproduction because it has a large fecundity.

Abstract

Tilan, Mastacembelus erythrotaenia is one of an economic fish that the population has been degradated. The research was aiming to describe the information of food habits of tilan fish in Musi River. The sampling was conducted every month from December 2007 to Juli 2008 and samples were collected by using pancing (hook and line), sondong (electro fishing), Jaring kantong (trammel net), rawai (long line) and belat (seine net). A total of 1001 fish was caught. The stomach content was analyzed based on index of preponderance method. Based on this analysis, the main food was Sesarma eydouxi. According to this research, Mastacembelus erythrotaenia was the selective crustacivorous predator, that main food was similar in every month and station. This information be used for management resources of Mastacembelus erythrotaenia, aquaculture, and conservation.

Abstract

Study on spatio-temporal distribution of fishes caught by beach seine was carried out in Inner Ambon Bay during a year. The aim of this study is to describe the distribution of fishes in three zones, which they are zone of Halong, Lateri, and Waiheru every month during a year. The result showed that Waiheru zone at the dark of moon has many species of fishes. Shorthead anchovy, gold spot herring, and Indian anchovy were always found every month although they were no plenty. Species similarity of Waiheru zone was closed to Lateri zone, and there were five clusters of month of species association during a year. It was concluded that existence of fishes was depended by zone (location) and month (period).

Abstract

The research aimed to describe diet composition of Thynnichthyes polylepis. The diet compositions of population from two sites (Mentulik and Simalinyang) in floodplain river of Kampar Kiri, were compared according to the month. Fishes were captured using experimental gillnet and trap. For food habits analysis, the index of preponderance method was used. The collections were performed monthly from July to December 2008, where the stomach contents of 479 specimens were assessed. Prey items of T. polylepis were basically composed of phytoplankton and zooplankton, especially Cocconeis, Nitzschia, Navicula, Cyclotella, Pleurotaenium, and Testudinella. At site Mentulik, the most common items were Cocconeis, Nitzschia, and Navicula. Conversely, at site Simalinyang, Cocconeis, Pleurotaenium, and Nitzschia more representative. In general, main food of fish origin showed the highest index values at Mentulik, whereas at Simalinyang. The composition of items varied monthly, especially at Simalinyang. Food habits of fish may be flexible according to resource availability in spatial and temporal variation.

Abstract

The study about growth and reproduction of mackerel scads in North Moluccas was conducted from January to May 2008 using purse seine. Total samples are 2000 fishes comprise 645 males and 1355 females. The growth of female fish faster than male and both of this fish reached maximum length at age 4 years. Negative allometric growth patterns were found both in female and male. All fish samples dominated by immature fish. The most mature fish was found in March and the first maturity fish reached at 258 mm of total length. The peak of spawning season was found in April-May and fecundity was ranged from 28,875 to 84,000 eggs. The number of eggs has a positive correlation with total length.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate gonad maturity of long tonguesole (Cynoglossus lingua). Samples were collected from August 2005 to Januari 2006 from fish caught by fishermen using gill net and trap net in Ujung Pangkah waters. Analysis was done to estimate gonad maturity, gonado-somatic index, fecundity, and oocyte diameter. Long tonguesole was 202 individual consisted of 94 male and 108 female fish varied 65-325 mm in total body length. Sex ratio was around 1:1.4. First maturity gonad of male and female fish was 94-122 mm. According to gonad maturity stage and gonadosomatic index, fish was estimated to spawn from August to January with a peak one during December. Fecundity was 360-35926 eggs and oocyte diameter was 0.08-0.63 mm. Based on oocyte distribution, the fish was estimated a partial spawner.

Abstract

A study was made of the induction of drug-metabolizing enzyme activity and the effect of the induced activity on the duration of oxytetracycline (OTC) in carp, Cyprinus carpio. Carp were fed a diet containing polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)(0,1 mg/100 g body weight/day) for 2 week to induce drug-metabolizing enzymes. After pretreatment, OTC was administered in feed to PCB-treated and control carp as a single dose of 50mg/kg body weight. The result demonstrate that PCB highly induses benzo (a) pyrene hydroxylase among the enzymes of carp, but the induced hydroxylase does not react to OTC, resulting in no change in their tissue levels and duration time.

Abstract

Study on the food habits of Thynnichthys thynnoides in the floodplain of Kampar Kiri River, Riau, was conducted from July to Desember 2006, using experimental gillnet and trap. The main objectives of the study were to analyze the food compotition of T. thynnoides from two areas (Mentulik and Simalinyang) and the changes of the food in relation to season. Total samples are 252 fishes, comprises 125 fishes from Mentulik and 127 fishes from Simalinyang. Food analysis was determined by using Index of Preponderance. The result showed that the main food of T. thynnoides both in Mentulik and Simalinyang was Bacillariophyceae. At Mentulik, the most common prey items were Cocconeis, Cyclotella, and Nitzschia; on the other hand at Simalinyang Cocconeis, Cyclotella, and Pleurotaenium more representative. The composition of food items varied monthly, especially at Simalinyang. T. thynnoides from Mentulik and Simalinyang has same trophic positions.
