Abstract

To assess the possibility cause of deterioration to rice production in several villages downstream to Rancaekek, Bandung, we conducted laboratorium experiment using Lemna as the bioassay agent. Lemna sp. has been exposed to mixtures of inorganic tissue culture medium salts and filtered raw wastewater (effluent) taken from textile mill in Rancaekek, Bandung. The system was then incubated for 7 days under continuous daylight fluorescent lamps and the number of fronds and fresh weight were determined. The results show that EC50 of the textile industry’s wastewater is 37.5% of the wastewater. The LOEC value is 30% and the NOEC is 15%. This experiment suggests that wastewater from textile industry is potentially dangerous to aquatic plants, including rice and vegetable, if it was discharged to public water body without appropriate pre-treatment.

Abstract

Since year 1977 until 2005, PT. ANTAM has been exploited nickel ore resources at Gebe Island – Center of Halmahera District – North Maluku Province. Mining activity, beside give economically advantages also cause degradation of environment quality espicially water quality. Therefore, it need evaluation activity for change and compare of water quality at GebeIsland after mining activity. In this research we took a field survey and got 4 samples (1 samples for undisturbed water : Niwisyo Lake; 3 samples for disturbed water : Check Dam, Port and Turap Ponds). And then these samples were analyzed at BIOTROP laboratory. Base on this research, the water quality in Niwisyo Lake [only BOD parameter exceed standard] andCheck Dam were classified in Class I [only Ni concentration (0,213 mg/lt) and suspended solid (12,93mg/lt) have high value] , water in port was Class III [only DHL parameter (567 μS) has high value] and water ini Turap Ponds was Class IV [only BOD (18,43 mg/l) and DHL (497 μS) parameter have high value]. This condition may be caused the rehabilitation activity in GebeIsland has been succeded.

Abstract

It has been widely known that the Cirata reservoir has beenheavily polluted by waste from aquaculture and Industry. Thisresearch was conducted to determine the spread of organic matterin the waters of the Cirata reservoir       The result revealed that Cirata reservoir has heavily pollutedby organic waste, so since the year 1997 has become a hypertrophicwaters, and until the year 2003 the situation has not changed. If thepollutant load is not also decrease the Cirata reservoir feared wouldturn into "a the biggest cesspool in the world. that will create variousnegative impacts, like the mass death of fish culture whichsometimes have occurred in Cirata reservoir.       Organic matter (pollutant) in dam Cirata water bodiesdominated by dissolved organic matter with a range between 68,2-84,2 percent. Organic matter in the inlet water (derived from B.Saguling) tend to be greater than in the water at the outlet so thatimplied that some organic matter carried in water S. Citarum weresedimentated and decomposed in Cirata reservoir.       Fraction of life particle organic matter in total organic matterin the water in the Cirata reservoir and outlets tend to be larger thanthe water in the inlet which entering water from Saguling reservoir.
