Abstract

This technical guidance activity aims to teach how to process organic fertilizer based on cow dung which is mostly produced by the community's livestock, so that it can  reduce the cost of inorganic fertilizer and be more profitable. This activity was carried out in farmer groups in Morome and Alebo Villages, Konda District, South Konawe Regency. The method of activity is carried out by: (1) lectures and discussions on materials and methods of processing organic fertilizers, (2) demonstrations and guidance on the  selection of materials and processing of cow dung-based organic fertilizers, (3) packaging and marketing methods for livestock manure-based organic fertilizers. cow. The counseling material presented received a positive and satisfactory response from the participants. In general the participants wanted to adopt the training materials and were very active in the technical guidance. It was concluded that the participants were very interested in applying the guidance materials taught and producing them commercially. The participants hoped that their village would often be given agricultural and livestock guidance and counseling activities.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected people's lives, especially women farmer from the Sibermas Mandiri Women's Farmer Group, Pudak Village, Kumpeh Ulu District, Muarojambi Regency. This pandemic has resulted in a decline in household income. Therefore, it is necessary to find a solution to increase their household income through the cultivation of Butternut Squash (Curcubita moschata) which currently has a large enough opportunity and market potential to become a business. In an effort to achieve this target, the Butternut Squash cultivation innovation can be implemented through the "Learning by Doing" model, which is a cultivation implementation model that is directly carried out by the Women Farmers group on the land. The result of these activities show that the average butternut squash production reaches ± 150 kg. With the selling price of butternut squash Rp.8.000/kg, the average omzet obtained is ± Rp. 1.200.000,-. It shows that the cultivation of butternut squash can increase household income and encourage the women farmer group to continue the cultivation of butternut squash independently.

Abstract

Fish is one of the most commonly consumed protein sources. Fish are at risk as a medium for the growth of microbial contaminants that can cause foodborne diseases. This disease can cause diarrhea and even death.Contaminant microbes can be found in foods consumed raw, such as Naniura, a typical Batak cuisine in the form of raw carp. Various natural spices such as lime and orange also have potential as antimicrobials. This study aimed to determine the antimicrobial potential of lime and orange juice in fresh carp samples. This study used extracts of lime and orange with concentrations of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, and 50%, respectively. The sample used is carp meat. The bacteria present in the sample were counted using the Total Plate Count (TPC) method before and after lime and lime extract administration. The results showed that before administering the two extracts, the total colonies in the sample could not be counted. The antimicrobial effect of orange juice extract began to be seen at a concentration of 12.5%, while in lime, it was only seen at a concentration of 50%. From the results of this study, it was concluded that orange juice extract had a better antimicrobial effect than lime.

Abstract

The activity was carried out in Sei Ular Village, Secanggang District, Langkat Regency from May - November 2021. The problems faced by partners are 1) The price of chemical fertilizers is relatively expensive and difficult to obtain. 2) Continuous use of chemical fertilizers destroys soil quality 3) There is a lot of unused agricultural and livestock waste. 4) People don't know what kind of waste can be used as compost. 5) People don't know how to process compost using smart composters. The purposes of implementing this activity are 1) The community can process agricultural and livestock waste into organic compost 2) The community can get fertilizer at a cheaper price and easily to obtained 3) Improve soil nutrients at the service location 4) to increase the income of the farmer. The results are in the form of training and mentoring services for making organic compost with the help of a smart composter. The approach method is carried out by overcoming partner problems and then resolving the problem through an activity program by referring to the science and technology approach. The results obtained after the implementation of counseling and training obtained that 85.71% of participants were interested in making compost by utilizing waste. The public feels organic compost fertilizer does not require too large a cost because it can utilize waste around the community.

Abstract

Deli Serdang is a district that has the highest population of sheep and goats. The maintenance system is in the semi-intensive category so it can be categorized as an animal husbandry livelihood. An independent livestock business namely Al-Hafidz sheep and goat farming is located in Sidirejo Village, Namorambe District, Deli Serdang Regency. Problems in the Al-Hafidz farmer group are the decline in livestock health and poor sanitation of the cage. This problem can affect the health of livestock, especially skin diseases and can be transmitted to the breeder. The purpose of this community service activity is to improve biosecurity and cage sanitation using eco enzymes. Activities are carried out by making natural disinfectants that are easy and do not require expensive costs, such as eco-enzymes. Kitchen waste can be used as an ingredient to make Eco-Enzymes. Eco Enzyme is very useful as an insect repellent, house cleaning flies and equipment, insecticide, an antiseptic or natural antibacterial. The methods used are training, counseling, and assistance to farmer groups. The results achieved are increased knowledge of farmers regarding the manufacture of eco-enzymes as cage biosecurity by utilizing fruit peel waste, reducing household waste pollution, and reducing the cost of purchasing disinfectants.

Abstract

Berkah Mulia is a farmer group in Manuk Mulia Village, Karo Regency with 19 members. Livestock developments may cause several problems such as environmental pollution in the form of livestock manure which causes unhealthy environmental conditions. In addition, the unstable supply of chemical fertilizers and high prices are problems that are quite difficult to solve. The solution to this problem is the utilization of cattle feces in Bokashi which can improve the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil due to the use of excessive chemical fertilizers to improve soil quality. Bokashi is compost produced from the fermentation process or organic matter fermentation with EM4 technology. The method implemented in the community service is having interviews and discussions to find the solution for all problems. Then use teaching media in the form of banners and brochures about the method of making bokashi. Training, counseling, and mentoring are carried out by providing materials and practices for making bokashi using cow feces. The results of the activity show that this community service can increase the knowledge and skills of farmers by 84% related to making bokashi. This activity can also reduce environmental pollution and reduce the cost of purchasing chemical fertilizers so that horticultural crop production increases.

This community service activity was carried out in Kubah Sentang Village, Pantai Labu District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province. Counseling and training on stunting handling through making red kidney bean cookies was attended by 50 participants consisting of mothers who were members of the PKK group, posyandu cadres, mothers with toddlers, and youth groups. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test, there was a decrease in the number of participants who had knowledge about stunting in the category less than 41.3% to 13.0%, and as many as 56% of participants had knowledge about stunting in the good category.

Abstract

Fish has been widely known for its usage in increasing the growth of children, due to its nutritional contents, such as protein and zinc that can accelerate the increase of children’s heights and weights in the growth period. This community service activity aims to increase fish consumption in elementary school students, especially those suffering from stunting through processing fish into nugget products. The activity carried out was in the form of training on processing fish nuggets using lemuru fish with the addition of durian seed flour to mothers with stunting children at SDN 104255 Paluh Sibaji Village, Pantai Labu District, Deli Serdang Regency. This activity then was continued by offering the students to consume nuggets of lemuru fish durian seeds flour. As a result, the nuggets were considered favorable by the students. The post test involving questions about stunting was conducted to measure the knowledge of each parent in this case. The data showed that parents had high enthusiasm in solving stunting issues due to the increase on average of post test points (8.03), which was two times higher than before (4.81). The outcome of this training was to gain new skills and knowledge to students’ mothers in decreasing stunting cases by serving affordable nutrient-rich food to their children.
