Abstract

Article reveals the difference of stress among students and lecturers when they were studying in the class. However, I focused this research only in the second language class. The distinction of the stress will be shown on graphic. I used questionnaire to collect the data from the students and lecturers that I had mentioned above.

Abstract

Article presented the design and utility of ESP materials which were self – accessible for the SBI students which required careful thoughts and preparations. The study began by determining the students’ needs of ESP, continued by the course developer who collected the required materials from four different source, those are published materials, authentic material, self-made materials and materials from students’ contributions. The use of the materials were still needed the active role of teachers in setting visiting time, counseling or even assessing students’ works. It is concluded that the less autonomous nature of the self access context for the SBI context is based on the assumption that younger students still require guidance and supervision from their teachers.

Abstract

Frequently the uniqueness of Betawi with its superiority and shortage performance attracts many people. This article clarifies beauty in Betawi’s modest ethnic which concerns on history, artefact, culture, art, cloth and clothes’ motif, food, and ceremony relates to people’s life, by using cultural study method and structuralism theory. It is concluded that Betawi culture has been created through a long process, even though in fact they have been removed now, but the assimilation process with various ethnics in Indonesia makes Betawi ethnic is exist and recognized. Various arts together with cultural acculturation, language, and people arise multiple perceptions toward Betawi ethnic. The modesty factor causes Betawi ethnic can be accepted by all social levels in Indonesia. With cultural richness of Betawi, so that preservation on this culture is needed, considering on the Betawi’s characteristic which is less aware of their existence.

Abstract

The Japanese has not became a product only, but it becomes more than language product activity, but still relates to culture. Article presents Keigo which is is different from sonkeigo, kenjougo and teineigo. Therefore using keigo such as language user depends on uchi soto and ue shita factors. If using sonkeigo such as opponent more higher than speaker position. Oppenent position as me ue (higher position level) and soto no mono (outsider). And than using kenjougo such as speaker more lower than opponent position. Speaker as uchi (insider) or me shita (low position level).

Abstract

Article presented performance behaviour among high school teachers in Jakarta, especially in their roles as counsellor based on the government’s qualification and competences, especially in their empathy and persuasion. The research also wants to see the difference between male and female teachers’ behaviour as counsellor, so that the schools are more serious in selecting and developing their teacher counsellor. Using DISC assessment tool for 68 teachers, consisting of 14 male and 54 female teachers, it is indicated that 26,47% of them meet the government qualification, those are both empathy and persuasion qualifications. Empathy qualification is possessed by male and female teachers, even male teacher is more persuasive than male teacher who have dominant communication behaviour. In general, the research presents 13 behaviour styles.

Abstract

Mori Ogai is a welknown Japanese author in the modern Japanese literature, that is literatures that reflect a modern society living. This modern society tries to disclose social status and raise freedom and righyt equality as the basic of modern life. One of his novels, Takase Bune clarifies Mori Ogai views on Euthanasia (Anrakushi). Article presents the views of a prominent writer as well as medical practitioner on the Japanese Army on Euthanasia practice.

Abstract

Studying a language cannot be separated from studying the meaning of that language because when one is learning a language he/she is also learning the meaning of the language. The meaning of a language can be seen from its relation between words, i.e. the sense of one word is related to the sense of another. In this case there are two major groups of sense relations. The first group is the sense relations with regard to the sameness as synonymy. The second one is the sense relations of oppositeness as antonymy. This paper is to discuss both kinds of sense relations since they are important in semantics.

Abstract

Wood is a building material that is frequently used as the main component in interior design and architecture. But, the use of wood is declining today and it is replaced by bamboo. Now, wood material is difficult to find and this condition causes high price in market. Article presents the availability of bamboo that has been known by our society because of its benefit. They use bamboo to meet their everyday life, such as clothes, food, and house needs. Bamboo is also used for the development of interior design as well as architecture , especially in Indonesia.

Abstract

Personal initiative is an active behavior to achieve work’s target, influenced by self-starting aspects, proactive, and toughness in overcoming some constraints. Article presented on how to achieve effectiveness in Character Building subject on personal initiative development based on a research using different group test method. Compared groups were students having finished Character Building subject and not yet followed with the amount of 103 students. Questionnaires consisting of 43 items using semantic different scale were distributed to them. The results indicate that Character Building subject is not effective to develop personal initiative. These are caused by changing happened to students who have followed Character Building subject has not been identified in their personal initiatives, but in the lessening of bad habits in campus life. The students get initiative ability from their personal experience since children to adult. This finding is in line with their participation in organization activities, entrance grade, parents’ jobs, and high school majority which correlating to personal initiative.
