Abstract

Translation is an activity that transforms a written or verbal language to other written or verbal language. In its process, a translator should  overcome the difficulty that caused by the cultural differences, habits, vocabularies and grammars which could help the translator  to translate precisely without changing the original meaning of  translation’s source. Through the translation lesson, the writer found some factors that caused the student’s mistake in translating Chinese into Indonesian or Indonesian into Chinese. On the other side, The writer found that the translation’s mistakes are caused by the lack of understanding Chinese and Indonesian‘s history, culture and habit. There are some factors that lead to the lack of understanding of Chinese history, culture and habit such as the inability of student  to understand the meaning of  history, culture and habit that usually are contained on the words, proverb and sentences, the environment that are not supporting students to have a deep understanding of Chinese history, culture and habit. The deeper understanding of Chinese culture, history and habits could help student to translate Chinese that influenced by history, culture and the habit of Chinese precisely. Through the observation, the writer will analyze some factors and analyze how the lecturers could overcome the difficulties of translation that are faced by students.

Abstract

Environment pollution which is caused by garbage, especially plastic products, is one undeniable thing nowadays. Environment pollution by non-degradable materials could be decreased in 3Rs that are recycling, reusing, reducing. Recycle method is one of creative methods; the plastic waste could be recycled into matting materials that substitute natural material (pandanus) and also to be alternative upholstery in interior products. Plastic waste treatment process until disposable is easier than natural material which has to go through several stages like drying and staining. What could be gained from pandanus could also be gained from plastic waste, so there are many things probable products could be designed. The product image is assumed to be modern, one trend nowadays.

Abstract

The concept of Utopia that exist in three Jiro Akagawa’s Japanese contemporary novel, described the condition of Japan society nowadays. In the relationship concept that relies on hierarchy and closeness relationship between persona in Japan, Akagawa tried to think out of the box. Akagawa’s novel is a mystery novel focusing on society, mostly about the characteristic that influenced  by the Uchi and Soto concept.  These concepts made Japan society divided into ”inner group” and ”outer group”. Also, this concept made the Japan society not very active in making a relationship outside her/him self. In the style of Akagawa’s satire, he described this idea in his novels to convey the message to the reader.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe a design process of a website utilized by the Department of DKV, Bina Nusantara University. The website description was done by using literature methods such as analysis of similar websites, and using the website design method developed by Gene DeFazzio. From the analysis results can be obtained data classification needs and system as expected by DKV BINUS website. Then, from the data analysis, website was developed through the stages of Pre-Production, Production, and Uploading. Through this process, it has been produced a website which serves as a database and information, and supports the process of marketing and branding of the Department of DKV BINUS.

Abstract

Nowadays, editing technology has entered the digital age. Technology will demonstrate the evidence of processing analog to digital data has become simpler since editing technology has been integrated in the society in all aspects. Understanding the technique of processing analog to digital data is important in producing a video. To utilize this technology, the introduction of equipments is fundamental to understand the features. The next phase is the capturing process that supports the preparation in editing process from scene to scene; therefore, it will become a watchable video.

Abstract

Japanese Business Correspondence is a course that is given by 7 Japanese language study institutions all around Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi). Each institution has their own uniqueness which can be seen in course unit composition. The research method used in this research is survey. The result of this research is that most institutions teach the general correspondence rather than business correspondence. It is also found that there are 2 institutions having uniqueness compared with the other five institutions. The two institutions are STBA LIA and BINUS University. The speciality of STBA LIA is the subject related to verbal correspondence. Meanwhile, BINUS University is more specialized in email-format correspondence.

Abstract

Stress is unavoidable part of an employee in one organization. There are reasons why employees having stress at work. Stress is a contraction when somebody feels one problem has threatened himself. There are kinds of stress kind, like hypo-stress, eu-stress, hyper-stress, and distress. Stress sources in working environment are environment factors, organizational stressor, group stressor, and individual stressor. Besides, there are also factors caused working stresses like biologic, social/cultural, psychodynamic, rational, experiential, and spiritual. After defining sources and factors from working stress, there are ways to overcome them which the organization should do to help the employees; like peer counseling or peer support group, in-house support, employee assistance program, and mediation facility; which will reduce employees’ stressful at work.

Abstract

Wordplay are exploited in order to bring a communicatively significant confrontation of two or more linguistic structures. Translating wordplays in English text into Indonesian is difficult; on the one hand, translator has to recognize the use of wordplays in rendering a defined effect and the characteristics of translated text. This paper is designed to explore the importance of systemic functional linguistics (SFL) related to translating English wordplay into Indonesian, particularly the strategies of dealing with those wordplays and its application in solving problems effectively.SFL is most appropriately applicable to text analysis especially wordplay analysis because it is constructed for the sake of text analysis.

Abstract

 A work of visual communication design which aired on the television screen has a different perspective in its interpretation in the eyes of the audience when compared to other media. By understanding the characteristics and nature of media, proper exploration of graphic design can easily be created. Through literature study, observations of the author as a practitioner of graphic design for television and comparisons with the print media will facilitate the understanding of this study.

Abstract

This research is to measure foreign language study effectively from staffs in one directorate in various abilities. The methodology of this research is experiment method consists of 11 subject respondents with 3 different English level abilities. The experiment is done in combining the 3 levels in one class with the same level of difficulty for 3 months and 26 meetings. The data founded which will be analysed is placement test, mid-test, and final test data in quantitative. Meanwhile, qualitative data is gathered from observation result during training. From the observation, factors raising uneffective training are study motivation, self-efficacy and confidence level, and the needs for creating environment that supports foreign language learning so required ability could be improved.
