Abstract

Article clarified students’ behaviors in seeking and searching information to support their researches, especially in formulating topics, problems, and goals of researches. Qualitative method was applied to forty three students from the Chinese Departments as respondents. They took Chinese Scientific Writing subject in BINUS University at the odd semester in 2010-2011. The observation of students’ behavior to access information was conducted in one week because it is a preliminary research for the advanced one. Analysis was done by evaluating students’ assignments on their proposals that was submitted at the end of semester, especially on the formulation of researches’ topics, problem formulation, and goals of researches. It is concluded that only twenty students (46.51 %) who are able to compose background of research properly, it means that they are able to express their interest on the researches’ topics, and this abilities have a positive correlation on their ability in formulating researches’ problems and goals.

Abstract

Corruption in Indonesia is such a life culture that is hardly to be eradicated. In order to solve it, there must be serious and strong will. Campaigning through public service advertising is one part of good moral message disseminating efforts. In producing PSA about corruption, it needs special strategy so the disseminated message could be transferred easily by target audience. One method is creative approach in advertising strategy. To make the production easier, there are stages: pre-production, production and post-production. Production method is through photographic and motion graphic. Motion graphic generally time-based visual media cutting which combine film language and graphic design. The result is a public service advertising film 60’ durated time, in anti-corruption theme. Meanwhile, disseminated message about close relationship between a mother and her child, unhappy because her child is a corruptor. Thus, audience will easily emotionally touched through this public service advertising.

Abstract

The research purpose is to gather, collect, and analyze data which needed in creating children story book in pop-up technique, with visually interesting gardening theme to interact with children. The research method is by direct survey into the location, such as schools, children story bookstores, and libraries. Besides, the research will be through literature media like books, magazines and journals; also supported by references contain related topic, like internet. The expected result is that education and added value message could be sent and understood by the children through the story books. The children would acknowledge, love, and preserve nature through gardening. In conclusion, nowadays, visual communication media like story books with interesting visual could gain children?s interest. Therefore, by using pictured story book media in pop-up, it will facilitate the education process of introducing and preserving Mother Nature for children.

Abstract

Animation movie is one communication media. Image shape that could give reality impression to be interested message sender. History showed that special animation movie gives its own space and style to impress the audience. It is factual that audiences in any ages could acknowledge and enjoy animation moview. The fast-moving development of animation is along with the development of animation technology. Other factor is about promotion and story appeal of related movie. Promotion and story will give identity towards movie title. The movie title, which written suitably, has different appeal that will approach audience to watch the movie. In defining title and identity, there are different ways and designs, so the identity will last remain in the mind of the reader. The article describes namestyle and its relation with characters in some movies, especially Hollywood animation movie.

Abstract

Article presents one part of pop culture is crime portrayed as entertainment in television shows. Television has the means of information and entertainment, resulting in the shift of crime shows, initially crime was portrayed in the news but due to the high popularity, it becomes part of the entertainment as well. In terms of information, the most famous of crime drama show is Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), and this show gave effect known as the CSI effect, which is people have more appreciation to scientific evidences and DNA testing in trials. On the other hand, with so many shows involving crime resulting in cultivation impact, which is accumulation and the formation of perception of reality. People who are more exposed to this crime show will form the same perception as the one depicted by television and resulted to changes in their behavior. Several proposals to reduce this negative effects are audience learning, the use of rating system and electronic key in television set.

Abstract

Teaching English Entrant, the first level of General English lecture for BINUS University students, needs a specific method because normally the number of students in one class is more than 50 students. Besides, the four skills of language and business communication have to be taught simultaneously in one semester. This paper is aimed to describe one method used at BINUS University to teach English Entrant classes: Cell Group method which students are divided into cell groups. This method is supported by Binusmaya, an online resource used in teaching learning at BINUS University. Through this resource, each member of the cells has the opportunity to access Binusmaya forum where he/she can upload, download, share and discuss material or problems raised. Each cell is also responsible to write reports about its activities. Based on the reports, the teacher who has a role as a moderator and source in both Binusmaya forum and classroom has to lead the cells discussion in the classroom.

Abstract

As a country that respects the rule of law, permission can be a commodity as the establishment of a policy creation rules or derivation of state law dogma. The subject of law could not be carelessly with the presence of policies and regulations. The application of risk management as a restraint order in respect of the manufacture of the permits to the safety and health of work object (K3) which consists of main and ancillary infrastructure the production process on the company or the bureaucracy, making the value of the uncertainty (uncertainty) associated risks that occur can be deduced that in turn would provide welfare (welfare) from persons per person on the micro level to the contry?s macro level. The law in respect of the implementation of the licensing on this writing more leads to the existence of risk in the field of safety and Health (K3) as a measurement of the success of the control pattern related to risk management application in the company.

Abstract

Puh Sarang Church which located at Kediri, East Java, Indonesia, who?s made by Henri Maclaine Pont, give an illustrated of case study, how the Church developed with a good and great idea from the Architect which his effort to revitalized a local mind (intelligence) and then to transformed in a new form (modern form), but it is still hold on a local paradigm. The Puh Sarang Church in Kediri is different with any church form that build in Java (in that time) which some Church architecture and interior design a propose from Europe. Besides make use of local potency, Puh Sarang Church shown the impression of a sustainable product, because all of the transformation which Henri Maclaine Pont has already happens, he still use the natural paradigm became prime element for the design and the development. The aim of this paper is want to show if the architectural and interior design?s product done with use local paradigm in the concept, design, and carried by material, new technology is effort revitalization and transformation architecture and interior design as a holistic and comprehensive thinking.

Abstract

The reason of constructing the building facility is to facilitate users? activity and service. The article purpose is to introduce servicescape concept as a part of route that could be used to measure users? satisfaction level towards interior facility by giving additional value in selling goods and services in the building. Servicescape theory is one physical prove that could influence somebody?s point of view about physical environment in a commercial facility. Some points discussed in servicescape are style, design, sign, space layout, function, and ambient condition. Method used is literature study from some books along with illustration analysis related to commercial facility interior. The expected result is to give point of view from servicescape theory that could be applied by an interior design in defining design concept especially related to commercial facility. The conclusion showed some points in servicescape theory that could be used to direct and deliver the designer to design concept decision that would satisfy facility interior users.

Abstract

Rage against the Machine is known for their politics as well as their music, which the later helped creating an aggressive-heavy rock-rap genre. Article presents a song by Rage against the Machine band related to ideological movement in America, titled Sleep Now in the Fire. This effort brings an understanding ofideology that is embraced by the band. The method is through literature study. Presentation begins with a short biography of the band, theoretical concepts, and analysis of the song as well its music video. It is concluded that the song represents ideological criticism toward capitalism using Marxism. Both of these lyric and music video represents Marxism as it shares the same movement to fight capitalism?which in this case, Rage against the Machine is using their music, lyric, and video to fight the crime against humanity and cultural imperialism.
