Abstract

Studying a language cannot be separated from studying the meaning of that language because when one is learning a language he/she is also learning the meaning of the language. The meaning of a language can be seen from its relation between words, i.e. the sense of one word is related to the sense of another. In this case there are two major groups of sense relations. The first group is the sense relations with regard to the sameness as synonymy. The second one is the sense relations of oppositeness as antonymy. This paper is to discuss both kinds of sense relations since they are important in semantics.

Abstract

Motivation is a complex issue, in which theorists have tried to approach. Among the classifications are content theories, process theories and integrated theories. Women’s world is also complex, where multiple roles involve motivations and lead to different actions. This makes women perfect examples for management in times of change. Article discusses examples of motivation and management in times of change. Subjects of this study primarily are women lecturers and middle managers in educational field of professions. This study also involves qualitative means of data collection with two questions to lead discussions: What has driven you to be lecturers/educators?; What will make you continue become lecturers/educators? Analysis were conducted based on the studies done by Coleman, Ninomiya & Okato,and. Mwamwenda. It is concluded that women have multiple rather than single factors to motivate them in the profession. It is also agreed that leaders with feminine qualities as well as sensitive to culture are more preferable than those who are absent with them.

Abstract

Article presented the role and function of translation critics, preceded by analyzing a difference of translation results based on the men’s jobs, continued by clarifying the meaning and role of translation critics, translation analysis as one aspect in tranlation critics, and efforts to involve translation critics in education. It is concluded that translation critics is a bridge that correlate translation theory dan its practice, the importance of the critician.s attitude and his knowled in translation, the ability of a translation critician in comprehending and analysing the output of translation, and the advantage of involving translation critics in education.

Abstract

Article clarifies information literacy (IL) implementation that is recognizing information needs, finding information, valuing, selecting information, creating new information and presenting it to get some inputs, applied in Cornel University, Dayton University, North Sumatera University, Duta Wacana University, and Bina Nusantara University. Data were collected by library research. It can be concluded that IL implementation in some mentioned universities have met the IL standards, IL is needed to develop students’ knowledge, skills, and performance, some IL have applied in the formal teaching activity, so that it needs to be researched so that all parties are satisfied and the goal of study can be achieved.

Abstract

The Japanese has not became a product only, but it becomes more than language product activity, but still relates to culture. Article presents Keigo which is is different from sonkeigo, kenjougo and teineigo. Therefore using keigo such as language user depends on uchi soto and ue shita factors. If using sonkeigo such as opponent more higher than speaker position. Oppenent position as me ue (higher position level) and soto no mono (outsider). And than using kenjougo such as speaker more lower than opponent position. Speaker as uchi (insider) or me shita (low position level).

Abstract

Article presents manga and its development related to sport in Japan. This effort brings financial advantages because the society likes and makes it into national identity. Presentation begins with manga history, manga sport, dan Eyeshield 21. It is concluded that Eyeshield 21 has a positive impact for Japanese society because that comic teaches the importance of teamwork, overcoming obstacles, and achieving life goals; Japan has succeeded to develop manga into their own cultural contact that implies in their national identity, that is Manga Eyeshield 21.

Abstract

The use of metaphor in a comedy story is a tool to create the funny effect. In many comedy stories of kamigata rakugo, a metaphor can be used as one way to bring the contradict frame that will cause the unbalance in the story (incongruity). It means that the comedy story cannot stand alone without any contradiction of situation. This contradiction of situation is brought up by the story teller to get one phrase that is able to attract the listeners’ attention, and in the end will bring a big laughs.

Abstract

Article reveals the difference of stress among students and lecturers when they were studying in the class. However, I focused this research only in the second language class. The distinction of the stress will be shown on graphic. I used questionnaire to collect the data from the students and lecturers that I had mentioned above.

Abstract

Mori Ogai is a welknown Japanese author in the modern Japanese literature, that is literatures that reflect a modern society living. This modern society tries to disclose social status and raise freedom and righyt equality as the basic of modern life. One of his novels, Takase Bune clarifies Mori Ogai views on Euthanasia (Anrakushi). Article presents the views of a prominent writer as well as medical practitioner on the Japanese Army on Euthanasia practice.
