Abstract

Visual modeling softwares are numerously available based on both open source and proprietary. However, the softwares are not easy to use and tools available are so confusing for users. Therefore, the evaluation model is needed to choose the proper software. The purpose of this study is to create a model to evaluate the visual modeling software from the user interface and usability. Studied softwares are open source-based because they can be obtained easily for free. The softwares are Umleditor, Umlpad, Violet UML editor, ArgoUML, HE, StarUML, UMLet, Winbrello. This evaluation model is also able to evaluate other softwares. This evaluation uses DECIDE framework which is a guiding framework for evaluation. Evaluation approaches and techniques used are GOMS approach. The final results of this study is an evaluation model that provides software recommendations, namely UMLet 9.1 as well as one which has good usability, like effectiveness, safety, good utility, learnability, memorability, although for efficiency it gets the second place compared to DIA.

Abstract

Children’s response towards something is different from adults’. If an architect designs the foot of a monument with a beautiful arch, a child will respond it as a slide. When an architect designs a water pool as an aesthetic element of a monument area, a child will respond with a different return, which is a place to shower/swim and play, not for aesthetic. What is this phenomenon? And how can we understand this well? This story reassures us that between adults and children have different concepts of a building or space. With a descriptive approach to literature review, this article examines some affordance-based studies. From the few studies presented, it appears that affordances are not enough to understand why kids play on an informal play space. Semiotic approach can help to better understand why children play in informal spaces.

Abstract

This paper describes the modifications to the Pinhole algorithm and applies it to the detection of highway congestion using an IP camera. This algorithm can detect the congestion on the highway with a fairly high degree of accuracy and the small possibility of false alarms, so that it helps reporting congestion and road users to take into account the best and quickest way. The methods used in this research are literature study, questionnaire analysis, and evaluation of application performance. The application made in this study can be further developed for combined detection with many cameras, and can support traffic regulation as well as SMS gateway service to check the condition of a road segment. At the end of this paper are presented techniques and methodology of determining the parameter values used in the calibration.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the Critical Success Factor of e-procurement implementation, that is able to show the influence factors of successful implementation of e-procurement in companies. This study uses benchmarking method to examine the non-random selected samples from some companies which are advanced in implementing e-procurement including the contextual analysis of issues related to similar situations. From the findings then performed the identification and benchmarking study, mapping towards the successful practice at the companies. Eventually it is concluded that there is no best standard for e-procurement as the factors most affecting successful implementation are non-technical, of which this understanding will be the first step to systematically analyze the supporting factors in implementing e-procurement successfully. Therefore, e-procurement does not only improve the operational performance of the company in efficiency improvement of enterprise's supply chain management process but also provide added value for the company.

Abstract

The city that grows unplanned usually arises because of the conurbations of a culture, such as Agora in Greek and Forum in Roman. The “unplanned” city grows in strategic places, such as around the harbor, business places, worship places, or other activity centers. The city growth due to cultural centers is usually characterized by the growth of services as the economic support of the city activities. The service center develops a community center in the form of public facilities, such as public spaces and public buildings. Western understanding about this kind of design is oriented to functional vision illustrated from several illustrations of history that developed in the world of architecture. Understanding of cosmology in typology and morphology that affect the built environment, especially the face of a city, can be described by reviewing some of the phenomena that have been developed in connection with cosmological concept that affects the embryo of market formation, ie public open spaces which became the center of city residents to the commercial, political, recreational activities, and others resulting from the interaction of community activities.

Abstract

This paper examines batch scheduling problem that has batching and sequencing in single formulation for multiple-item case. The first step is to develop a model for single item single resource discussed in Zahedi (2008). The model determined batch sizes and their schedule simultaneously in single item case. This paper develops the model and algorithm for multiple-item case. The model functions to minimize total actual flow times. An algorithm for the model is developed using a relaxation of the binary constraints. The binary values for the decision variables are obtained from steps provided in algorithm. A numerical experience showing characteristics of this problem is presented.

Abstract

High increment of information system needs for company goes in line with the high demands of increasingly competitive and rivalry of industry. Corporate investment needs automatically increase to meet the demanding needs of this system. New developments in systems and technology can not be ignored by companies because it gives a very high economic boost in the competition. On the other hand, in line with the development of information systems is the development of Open Source applications as a cheaper alternative for enterprise use. With so many alternative of Open Sources requires companies to be more observant of selecting the best applications that meet the company needs and can be quickly implemented. This study presents the best approaches to select the best Open Source applications for companies, such as literature review, implementation and evaluation of e-learning Open Source application.

Abstract

Insufficient electricity supply in Java, Indonesia, has become an critical problem to be dealt by the goverment. One solution campaigned by the government is using electricity effectively by turning off unused devices that waste electricity. To make this action as a routine needs a reminder that can help remind people continually. One example of a reminder is an automatic static sensor which is already applied in some places. Dynamic sensor is one of best method to save energy because it can warn the user to turn off unused lamps. Dynamic sensor is also called moving sensor because it is able to move from a place to another and has a wide service area. This study gives information about the use of moving sensor in some areas in order to save electricity energy. As a pilot project, the use of moving sensor needs to be improved by a further study.

Abstract

Concerning the several pest attacks in Karawang, Cirebon, and Cianjur districts a mobile computing-based information system is built to accelerate the data flow and early warning information to the person in charge at Ministry of Agriculture. Based on interviews and surveys to the locations planted with rice, corn and soybeans some data of the breadth and intensity of pest attack is obtained, used as the basis design for the early warning data structure. The information systems development method refers to the systems development life cycle (SDLC): identification of needs data and information, analysis and system design, testing, implementation and evaluation system. The result is a mobile computing-based information system of pest control and crop disease early warning that can accelerate data and information transmission that the stakeholders in the Ministry of Agriculture can make decisions quickly and correctly.

Abstract

Facilities and advances in information technology such as digital library, online journal and references have not been well utilized by Regina Pacis High School. The school still implements the teacher centric teaching method where students are highly dependent on teacher that may inhibit the student’s development in independent learning. The author felt the need to propose an alternative solution to support student centric learning process by utilizing information technology advances. Therefore, an e-learning system design is made for Regina Pacis High School. To analyze the position of Regina Pacis High School the Porter's Five Forces is used. Meanwhile appropriate strategies for the school are determined using SWOT analysis. Results of Matrix IFE and Matrix EFE state that Regina Pacis High School is on the maintain-and-guard position while the results of the SWOT matrix states that the strategy of Strengths-Opportunities (SO) fits the conditions of the school. The strategies and implementation of e-learning system are expected to optimize the available technology to strengthen the position of Regina Pacis high school in the competitive market.
