Abstract

The recent advances in communication and mobile technologies made it easier to access and share information for most people worldwide. Among the most powerful information spreading platforms are the Online Social Networks (OSN)s that allow Internet-connected users to share different information such as instant messages, tweets, photos, and videos. Adding to that many governmental and private institutions use the OSNs such as Twitter for official announcements. Consequently, there is a tremendous need to provide the required level of security for OSN users. However, there are many challenges due to the different protocols and variety of mobile apps used to access OSNs. Therefore, traditional security techniques fail to provide the needed security and privacy, and more intelligence is required. Computational intelligence adds high-speed computation, fault tolerance, adaptability, and error resilience when used to ensure security in OSN apps. This research provides a comprehensive related work survey and investigates the application of artificial neural networks for intrusion detection systems and spam filtering for OSNs. In addition, we use the concept of social graphs and weighted cliques in the detection of suspicious behavior of certain online groups and to prevent further planned actions such as cyber/terrorist attacks before they happen.

Abstract

Malicious Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is a frequent and severe menace to cybersecurity. Malicious URLs are used to extract unsolicited information and trick inexperienced end users as a sufferer of scams and create losses of billions of money each year. It is crucial to identify and appropriately respond to such URLs. Usually, this discovery is made by the practice and use of blacklists in the cyber world. However, blacklists cannot be exhaustive, and cannot recognize zero-day malicious URLs. So to increase the observation of malicious URL indicators, machine learning procedures should be incorporated. This study aims to discuss the exposure of malicious URLs as a binary classification problem using machine learning through an AdaBoost algorithm.

Abstract

This paper offers a two-stage boost converter for a single-phase inverter without transformer for PV systems. Each stage of the converter is separately controlled by a pulse width modulated signal. A Simulink model of the converter using efficient voltage control topology is developed. The proposed circuit performance characteristics are explained and the obtained simulation results are confirmed through the applied experiments. Moreover, this paper has examined the control circuit of a single-phase inverter that delivers a pure sine wave with an output voltage that has the identical value and frequency as a grid voltage. A microcontroller supported an innovative technology is utilized to come up with a sine wave with fewer harmonics, much less price and an easier outline. A sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique is used by a microcontroller. The developed inverter integrated with the two-stage boost converter has improved the output waveform quality and controlled the dead time as it decreased to 63 µs compared to 180 µs in conventional methods. The system design is reproduced in Proteus and PSIM Software to analyze its operation principle that is confirmed practically.

Abstract

Research on the field of using social media has gained more importance in the recent days due to the rapid development of social media technologies. Looking at the behavioral intention and attitude of using social media for collaborative learning within Malaysian higher educational institutions and the influencing factors in this regard has received little attention by researchers. The study aims at examining the determinants that affect learners’ attitude and behavior intention regarding their use social media to achieve collaborative learning. Such examination is carried out by using the Theory Acceptance Model (TAM) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Usage of Technology (UTAUT). A total of 243 participants were recruited for this study. The findings indicated that students’ attitudes and behavior are strong indicators of their intentions in terms of using social media in collaborative learning.

Abstract

Architectural changes are happening in the modern industries due to the adaption and the deployment of ‘Internet of Things (IoT)’ for monitoring and controlling various devices remotely from the external world. The most predominant place where the IoT technology makes the most sense is the industrial automation processes in smart industries (Industry 4.0). In this paper, a reliable ‘Next Generation Cyber Security Architecture (NCSA)’ is presented for Industrial IoT (IIoT) environment that detects and thwarts cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities. It helps to automate the processes of exchanging real-time critical information between devices without any human intervention. It proposes an analytical framework that can be used to protect entities and network traffics involved in the IIoT wireless communication. It incorporates an automated cyber-defense authentication mechanism that detects and prevents security attacks when a network session has been established. The defense mechanism accomplishes the required level of security protection in the network by generating an identity token which is cryptographically encrypted and verified by a virtual gateway system. The proposed NCSA improves security in the IIoT environment and reduces operational management cost.

Abstract

Sleep plays an important role as it helps human body to rejuvenate, boosts mental function and manage stress. Sleep is restorative function which enhances muscle growth, repairs tissues, maintains health and make physical appearance look or feel better. The lack of sleep in human body can increase the risk of diseases which are asthma, diabetes, depression. For healthy physiological function, sleep is essential and has strong relation to mental condition. Easy way of sleep management is considered for maintaining good mental health. Numerous scientists, doctors and researchers have proposed various ways to monitor sleep, some of those best tests are polysomnography test and actigraphy test. However, taking sleep test covering the whole body with wires and electrodes which is polysomnography test is uncomfortable for patients, and sensors used for different approaches like this are costly and often require overnight treatment and expert monitoring in clinics. Therefore, easy way of detecting roll-over movements which is convenient for patients to wear is proposed. Accelerometer ADXL335 sensor is taped on socks during sleep which is comfortable for patients to wear and do not cause any inconvenience during sleep. Algorithm is proposed to read the dataset and count the roll-over during the sleep based on threshold. Resulting the number of roll-over detected during a sleep period.

Abstract

In service Oriented Architecture, many services are offered with similar functionality but with different service quality parameters. Thus the service selection using a deterministic approach causes conflicts and inefficient results. We use asynchronous queue to model the service inventory architecture avoiding unnecessary locking of resources and thus allowing a provision to consumers to get their required services without intervening and with temporally decoupled fashion. Actually this kind of service selection strategy is considered in regards with game theory to eliminate fluctuations of queue length. It offers a discrete random service which is equal to some request requested by consumers, it means service can be provided based on probability mass function as a substitute of deterministic decisions for selecting a proper service provider as of the consumers. Once the request is taken out from the queue, it is delivered to the interceptor that has validation and sanitization module. It thus reduces the peak queue length and reduces periodic fluctuations in the queue length.

Abstract

Today, Hygroscopic swelling is one of the biggest challenging problem of Epoxy mold compound (EMC) in packaging with Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) devices. To overcome this hygroscopic swelling problem of EMC and guard the devices, MEMS devices are molded in this paper with different Mold Compound (MC) i.e. titanium and ceramic etc. during their interconnection with the board. Also, a comparatively performance analysis of this various mold compound with MEMS pressure sensor has been studied in this paper at 60% humidity, 140 mol/m3 saturation concentration and 25 oC. It was observed that hygroscopic swelling does not take place in the titanium mold compound. But, titanium is very costly so we have to consider something cheaper material i.e. ceramic in this paper. The Hygroscopic swelling in Ceramic Mold Compound after 1 year is nearly 0.05mm which is very less than epoxy.

Abstract

Transporting industry is having an important influence on the nations’ progress. The states that having long shoreline are taking advantage of their locations in using sea transportations which is more economical than other types of transportations. One of the most economical marine transport is the diesel fueling engines. This paper is to optimize the PID controller to control the speed of the engine overcoming the navigation environmental changes such as waves, winds and other effective external factors as well as the vessel internal changes such as the shipment load, equipment’s conditions …etc. PID is optimized through the optimum selection of its parameters (KP, KI and KD). A Simulink/MatLab model of the system is designed for this purpose. The Hybrid IWOPSO (HIWOPSO) algorithm is used for finding the optimum values of the PID parameters. The engine step response with these parameters is compared to the responses with those obtained by the IWO and PSO besides the Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC).

Abstract

The rate of increase in energy consumption and high costs in addition to the depletion of existing resources has a significant impact on our standard of living for next generations. In this case, the priority is to develop alternative cost-effective sources for powering the residential and non-residential buildings. This paper proposes and develops a design of a modified small two-story residential solar house for a medium-sized family located in Cairo, Egypt. This modified solar house meets almost all its energy demands including space heating by using solar air collector with a pebble storage unit in winter and a summer cooling system using wind catcher theory. Hot water is obtained throughout the day by using a steel sheltered water storage tank with a capacity of 1000 liter. Finally, the proposed heating system of the solar house is sized and modeled.
