Abstract

Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is an effective noise reduction method to enhance the noisy chaotic signal over additive noise. In this paper, the intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) generated by EMD are thresholded using multivariate denoising. Multivariate denoising is multivariable denosing algorithm that is combined wavelet transform and principal component analysis to denoise multivariate signals in adaptive way. The proposed method is compared at a various signal to noise ratios (SNRs) with different techniques and different types of noise. Also, scale dependent Lyapunov exponent (SDLE) is used to test the behavior of the denoised chaotic signal comparing with clean signal. The results show that EMD-MD method has the best root mean square error (RMSE) and signal to noise ratio gain (SNRG) comparing with the conventional methods.

Abstract

This research work presents an efficient hybrid control methodology through combining the traditional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) optimal controlher. The proposed hybrid control approach is adopted to design three degree of freedom (3DOF) stabilizing system for helicopter. The gain parameters of the classic PID controller are determined using the elements of the LQR feedback gain matrix. The dynamic behaviour of the LQR based PID controller, is modeled and the formulated in state space form to enable utlizing state feedback controller technique. The performance of the proposed LQR based LQR controller is improved by using Genetic Algorithm optimization method which are adopted to obtain optimum values for LQR controller gain parameters. The LQR-PID hybrid controller is simulated using Matlab environment and its performance is evaluated based on rise time, settling time, overshoot and steady state error parameters to validate the proposed 3DOF helicopter balancing system. Based on GA tuning approach, the simulation results suggest that the hybrid LQR-PID controller can be effectively adopted to stabilize the 3DOF helicopter system.

Abstract

The use of remote control for alternating current fans in homes/offices is one of the applications of electronics that enhances human comfort. It should therefore not be seen as luxury, rather, it should be taken as a basic requirement of life. In this study, the bi-directional rotation and speed control of ac fan were achieved using ardiuno microcontroller and tuned capacitors circuit. The use of the new state-of- the art technique in this work is significant because it helped in over-coming the drawbacks associated with the use of inductive, resistive and phase angle controlled regulators. The significance of this study will be of great benefit to physically challenged and aged persons who need to have their comforts in their various places of sitting. The designed topology of the work was executed and achieved. Reliability test carried out on the finished work showed better efficiency.

Abstract

We present an analytical model for the I-V characteristics of AlGaN/GaN and AlInN/GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMT). Our study focuses on the influence of a GaN capping layer, and of thermal and self-heating effects. Spontaneous and piezoelectric polarizations at Al (Ga,In)N/GaN and GaN/Al(Ga,In)N interfaces have been incorporated in the analysis. Our model permits to fit several published data. Our results indicate that the GaN cap layer reduces the sheet density of the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG), leading to a decrease of the drain current, and that n+-doped GaN cap layer provides a higher sheet density than undoped one. In n+GaN/AlInN/GaN HEMTs, the sheet carrier concentration is higher than in n+GaN/AlGaN/GaN HEMTs, due to the higher spontaneous polarization charge and conduction band discontinuity at the substrate/barrier layer interface.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology forces everything to be done sophisticated, easy, and practical. During the information technology revolution 4.0 which is commonly called the disruptive era, the people need communication to exchange information and data. One of the communication systems that has been found today is handphone technology that can be used to communicate remotely through short message services. It can be ascertained that almost every adult having a handphone can be even more than one number, so it is a top priority for market sharing in business activities by utilizing gammu and kalkun technology. Gammu which is an open source program application was developed to build SMS gateways and or while the kalkun program application is used for web based SMS management system. This paper describes the use of gammu and kalkun in information technology to develop and manufacture and manage SMS SERVER effectively and certainly can save costs. This method is more efficient because it allows companies to easily manage their own information dissemination and sales activities and according transactions to business needs, so that the budget spent by the company can be reduced and more economical.

Abstract

Economic load dispatch among generating units is very important for any power plant. In this work, the economic load dispatch was made at Egbin Thermal Power plant supplying a total load of 600MW using six generating units. In carrying out this study, transmission losses were assumed to be included into the load supplied. Also three different combinations in the form of 6, 5 and 4 units commitment were considered. In each case, the total load was optimally dispatched between committed generating units using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Similarly, the generation cost for each generating unit was determined. For case 1, the six generators were committed and the generation cost is 2,100,685.069$/h. For case 2, five generators were committed and the generation cost is 2,520,861.947$/h. For case 3, four generators were committed and the generation cost is 3,150,621.685$/h. From all considered cases, it was found that, the minimum generation cost was achieved when all six generating units were committed and a total of 420,178.878$/h was saved.

Abstract

At present, the manufacturing industry has undergone a tremendous change in its operating principle with respect to the supply chain management system where the demands of consumers are dynamically and exponentially rising. Although Industry 4.0 offers a significant solution to this principle with the aid of its predictive automated operating process, till date there is less number of fault tolerant model that can effectively meet the standard demands of supply chain planning. Therefore, the proposed system introduces an analytical model where predictive optimization is carried out towards bridging the gap between supply and demands in supply chain 4.0. An analytical framework is a design from constraints derived from practical environment in order to offer better applicability of it. The study outcome shows that the proposed model could offer better performance in comparison to the existing optimization method with respect to the better budget control system for offering predictive and preemptive model design.

Abstract

Although, Integer Factorization is one of the hard problems to break RSA, many factoring techniques are still developed. Fermat’s Factorization Algorithm (FFA) which has very high performance when prime factors are close to each other is a type of integer factorization algorithms. In fact, there are two ways to implement FFA. The first is called FFA-1, it is a process to find the integer from square root computing. Because this operation takes high computation cost, it consumes high computation time to find the result. The other method is called FFA-2 which is the different technique to find prime factors. Although the computation loops are quite large, there is no square root computing that included into the computation. In this paper, the new efficient factorization algorithm is introduced. Euler’s theorem is chosen to apply with FFA to find the addition result between two prime factors. The advantage of the proposed method is that almost of square root operations are left out from the computation while loops are not increased, they are equal to the first method. Therefore, if the proposed method is compared with the FFA-1, it implies that the computation time is decreased, because there is no the square root operation and the loops are same. On the other hand, the loops of the proposed method are less than the second method. Therefore, time is also reduced. Furthermore, the proposed method can be also selected to apply with many methods which are modified from FFA to decrease more cost.

Abstract

This paper presents a low cost strategy for real-time estimation of the position of obstacles in an unknown environment for autonomous robots. The strategy was intended for use in autonomous service robots, which navigate in unknown and dynamic indoor environments. In addition to human interaction, these environments are characterized by a design created for the human being, which is why our developments seek morphological and functional similarity equivalent to the human model. We use a pair of cameras on our robot to achieve a stereoscopic vision of the environment, and we analyze this information to determine the distance to obstacles using an algorithm that mimics bacterial behavior. The algorithm was evaluated on our robotic platform demonstrating high performance in the location of obstacles and real-time operation.

Abstract

This project presents a swarming and herding behaviour using simple robots. The main goal is to demonstrate the applicability of artificial intelligence (AI) in simple robotics that can then be scaled to industrial and consumer markets to further the ability of automation. AI can be achieved in many different ways; this paper explores the possible platforms on which to build a simple AI robots from consumer grade microcontrollers. Emphasis on simplicity is the main focus of this paper. Cheap and 8 bit microcontrollers were used as the brain of each robot in a decentralized swarm environment were each robot is autonomous but still a part of the whole. These simple robots don’t communicate directly with each other. They will utilize simple IR sensors to sense each other and simple limit switches to sense other obstacles in their environment. Their main objective is to assemble at certain location after initial start from random locations, and after converging they would move as a single unit without collisions. Using readily available microcontrollers and simple circuit design, semiconsistent swarming behaviour was achieved. These robots don’t follow a set path but will react dynamically to different scenarios, guided by their simple AI algorithm.
