Abstract

Model and simulation of the impact of the distribution grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) system feeding a variable load with its control system have been investigated in this study. Incremental Conductance (IncCond) algorithm based on maximum power point tracking (MPPT) was implemented for the PV system to extract maximum power under different weather conditions when solar irradiation varies between 250W/m2 and 1000W/m2. The proposed system is modelled and simulated with MATLAB/Simulink tools. Under different weather conditions, the dynamic performance of the PV system is evaluated. The results obtained show the efficacy of the proposed MPPT method in response to rapid daytime weather variations. The results also show that the surplus power generated is injected into the grid when the injected power from the PV system is higher than the load demand; otherwise, the grid supplies the load.

Abstract

Digital filters are vastly utilized in the area of communication. A perfect digital filter efficiency is significant and hence to design a digital finite impulse response filter (FIR) favorable all the wanted situations is necessary. In this paper, a new proposed FIR digital filter designed, the fineness of the submitted filter is tested in terms of BER and then matched with another window, namely Hamming, Hanning, and Blackman. The design procedure done in the MATLAB software. It is concluded that the Blackman window is the best window to design the FIR digital filter, because it is bit error rate is better than another window.

Abstract

UAV and hemispherical photography are common methods used in canopy density measurement. These two methods have opposite viewing angles where hemispherical photography measures canopy density upwardly, while UAV captures images downwardly. This study aims to analyze and compare both methods to be used as the input data for canopy density estimation when linked with a lower spatial resolution of remote sensing data i.e. Landsat image. We correlated the field data of canopy density with vegetation indices (NDVI, MSAVI, and AFRI) from Landsat-8. The canopy density values measured from UAV and hemispherical photography displayed a strong relationship with 0.706 coefficient of correlation. Further results showed that both measurements can be used in canopy density estimation using satellite imagery based on their high correlations with Landsat-based vegetation indices. The highest correlation from downward and upward measurement appeared when linked with NDVI with a correlation of 0.962 and 0.652, respectively. Downward measurement using UAV exhibited a higher relationship compared to hemispherical photography. The strong correlation between UAV data and Landsat data is because both are captured from the vertical direction, and 30 m pixel of Landsat is a downscaled image of the aerial photograph. Moreover, field data collection can be easily conducted by deploying drone to cover inaccessible sample plots.

Abstract

Latest developments in wearable devices permits un-damageable and cheapest way for gathering of medical data such as bio-signals like ECG, Respiration, Blood pressure etc. Gathering and analysis of various biomarkers are considered to provide anticipatory healthcare through customized applications for medical purpose. Wearable devices will rely on size, resources and battery capacity; we need a novel algorithm to robustly control memory and the energy of the device. The rapid growth of the technology has led to numerous auto encoders that guarantee the results by extracting feature selection from time and frequency domain in an efficient way. The main aim is to train the hidden layer to reconstruct the data similar to that of input. In the previous works, to accomplish the compression all features were needed but in our proposed framework bio-signals compression using auto-encoder (BCAE) will perform task by taking only important features and compress it. By doing this it can reduce power consumption at the source end and hence increases battery life. The performance of the result comparison is done for the 3 parameters compression ratio, reconstruction error and power consumption. Our proposed work outperforms with respect to the SURF method.

Abstract

The use of renewable non-conventional energy sources, as wind electric power energy and photovoltaic solar energy, has introduced uncertainties in the performance of bulk power systems. The power system availability has been employed as a useful tool for planning power systems; however, traditional methodologies model generation units as a component with two states: in service or out of service. Nevertheless, this model is not useful to model wind power plants for availability assessment of the power system. This paper used a statistical representation to model the uncertainty of power injection of wind power plants based on the central moments: mean value, variance, skewness and kurtosis. In addition, this paper proposed an availability assessment methodology based on application of this statistical model, and based on the 2m+1 point estimate method the availability assessment is performed. The methodology was tested on the IEEE-RTS assuming the connection of two wind power plants and different correlation among the behavior of these plants.

Abstract

With the growth of mobile phones, short message service (SMS) became an essential text communication service. However, the low cost and ease use of SMS led to an increase in SMS Spam. In this paper, the characteristics of SMS spam has studied and a set of features has introduced to get rid of SMS spam. In addition, the problem of SMS spam detection was addressed as a clustering analysis that requires a metaheuristic algorithm to find the clustering structures. Three differential evolution variants viz DE/rand/1, jDE/rand/1, jDE/best/1, are adopted for solving the SMS spam problem. Experimental results illustrate that the jDE/best/1 produces best results over other variants in terms of accuracy, false-positive rate and false-negative rate. Moreover, it surpasses the baseline methods.

Abstract

The development of analysis methods for categorical data begun in 90's decade, and it has been booming in the last years. On the other hand, the performance of many of these methods depends on the used metric. Therefore, determining a dissimilarity measure for categorical data is one of the most attractive and recent challenges in data mining problems. However, several similarity/dissimilarity measures proposed in the literature have drawbacks due to high computational cost, or poor performance. For this reason, we propose a new distance metric for categorical data. We call it: Weighted pairing (W-P) based on feature space-structure, where the weights are understood like a degree of contribution of an attribute to the compact cluster structure. The performance of W-P metric was evaluated in the unsupervised learning framework in terms of cluster quality index. We test the W-P in six real categorical datasets downloaded from the public UCI repository, and we make a comparison with the distance metric (DM3) method and hamming metric (H-SBI). Results show that our proposal outperforms DM3 and H-SBI in different experimental configurations. Also, the W-P achieves highest rand index values and a better clustering discriminant than the other methods.

Abstract

Job searching for the proper vacancy among several choices is one of the most important decision-making problems. The necessity of dealing with uncertainty in such real-world problems has been a long-term research challenge which has originated from different methodologies and theories. The main contribution of this work is to match the applicant curriculum vitae (CV) with the best available job opportunities based on certain criteria. The proposed job searching system (JSS) implements a series of approaches which can be broken down into segmentation, tokenization, part of speech, gazetteer, and fuzzy inference to extract and arrange the required data from the job announcements and CV. Moreover, this study designs a fuzzy parameterized structure to store such data as well as a measuring tool to calculate the degree of similarity between the job requirements and the applicant’s CV. In addition, this system analyses the computed similarity scores in order to get the optimal job opportunities for the job seeker in descending order. The performance evaluation of the proposed system shows high recall and precision percentages for the matching process. The results also confirm the viability of the JSS approach in handling the fuzziness that is associated with the problem of job searching.

Abstract

Tachometer is a device that used for counting or for the measuring purpose of the number of revolutions (that is the total number rotations made by the device in unit of measuring time) of an object in unit time. It is expressed in the unit of RPS or RPM, the model uses a set of infrared transducer receiver to count the RPM pulses, and the Arduino microcontroller is used for the implementation of the project. The individual pulses are counted by the microcontroller to give the final output of the RPM.
