Abstract

The research analyzes the influence of the average temperature on the performance of specific photovoltaic solar modules under the environmental conditions of the city of Portoviejo, province of Manabí, Ecuador. The research is carried out using the qualitative methodology. Its main objective is to determine the influence of temperature on the energy performance of photovoltaic modules under the region's environmental conditions. Two electrical diagrams with different configurations were designed, which were analyzed and simulated using the MATLAB Simulink software. The results obtained show the direct relationship between the electrical parameters of voltage, current intensity, and power with the temperature value on the surface of the modules. It is concluded that the modules generate a higher value of voltage, electric current intensity, and electric power at a lower temperature, regardless of the level of solar irradiation they receive.

Abstract

Industrial context of today, driven by the Industry 4.0 paradigm, is overwhelmed by data. Decreasing cost of innovative technologies, and recent market dynamics have pushed and pulled respectively for those architectures and practices in which data are the masters. While advancing, we have to take care of waste, even though intangibility of data makes them hardly connected to waste. In this paper we are going to reflect on data intensive context of today, focusing on the industrial sector. A smart approach for fully exploiting data collecting infrastructures is proposed, and its declination in a prognostic and health management (PHM) use case set inside an automatic painting system is presented. The contributions of this papers are mainly two: first of all, the general conceptual take-away of "data re-use" is presented and discussed. Moreover, a PHM solution for painting system's number plates, based on optical character recognition (OCR), is proposed and tested as a proof-of-concept for the "data re-use" concept. Summarizing, the already-in-use data sharing principle for achieving transparency and integration inside Industry 4.0, is presented as complementary with the proposed "data re-use", in order to develop a really sustainable shift toward the future.

Abstract

Usage of hand geometry towards biometric-based authentication mechanism has been commercially practiced since last decade. However, there is a rising security problem being surfaced owing to the fluctuating features of hand-geometry during authentication mechanism. Review of existing research techniques exhibits the usage of singular features of hand-geometric along with sophisticated learning schemes where accuracy is accomplished at the higher cost of computational effort. Hence, the proposed study introduces a simplified analytical method which considers multi-modal features extracted from hand geometry which could further improve upon robust recognition system. For this purpose, the system considers implementing hybrid learning scheme using convolution neural network and Siamese algorithm where the former is used for feature extraction and latter is used for recognition of person on the basis of authenticated hand geometry. The main results show that proposed scheme offers 12.2% of improvement in accuracy compared to existing models exhibiting that with simpler amendment by inclusion of multi-modalities, accuracy can be significantly improve without computational burden.

Abstract

This paper proposes an effective beamformer for uniform linear arrays of half-wave dipole antennas based on binary bat algorithm (BBA) by controlling complex weights (both amplitudes and phases) excited at elements in an array. The proposed beamformer can impose adaptive nulls at interferences without knowing directions in the sidelobe region by minimizing the total output power of an array, whereas the main lobe and sidelobe levels are maintained. To demonstrate this capability, the proposal will be evaluated in several scenarios, compared to a beamformer based on binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO).

Abstract

Shot boundary detection is the fundamental technique that plays an important role in a variety of video processing tasks such as summarization, retrieval, object tracking, and so on. This technique involves segmenting a video sequence into shots, each of which is a sequence of interrelated temporal frames. This paper introduces two methods, where the first is for detecting the cut shot boundary via employing visual hybrid features, while the second method is to compare between them. This enhances the effectiveness of the performance of detecting the shot by selecting the strongest features. The first method was performed by utilizing hybrid features, which included statistics histogram of hue-saturation-value color space and grey level co-occurrence matrix. The second method was performed by utilizing hybrid features that include discrete wavelet transform and grey level co-occurrence matrix. The frame size decreased. This process had the advantage of reducing the computation time. Also used local adaptive thresholds, which enhanced the method’s performance. The tested videos were obtained from the BBC archive, which included BBC Learning English and BBC News. Experimental results have indicated that the second method has achieved (97.618%) accuracy performance, which was higher than the first and other methods using evaluation metrics.

Abstract

X-means and k-means are clustering algorithms proposed as a solution for prolonging wireless sensor networks (WSN) lifetime. In general, X-means overcomes k-means limitations such as predetermined number of clusters. The main concept of X-means is to create a network with basic clusters called parents and then generate (j) number of children clusters by parents splitting. X-means did not provide any criteria for splitting parent’s clusters, nor does it provide a method to determine the acceptable number of children. This article proposes fitness function X-means (FFX-means) as an enhancement of X-means; FFX-means has a new method that determines if the parent clusters are worth splitting or not based on predefined network criteria, and later on it determines the number of children. Furthermore, FFX-means proposes a new cluster-heads selection method, where the cluster-head is selected based on the remaining energy of the node and the intra-cluster distance. The simulation results show that FFX-means extend network lifetime by 11.5% over X-means and 75.34% over k-means. Furthermore, the results show that FFX-means balance the node’s energy consumption, and nearly all nodes depleted their energy within an acceptable range of simulation rounds.

Abstract

Today's rapid technological developments make information increasingly important. Not just its content, but the channels or media used for information distribution also need to be secured. Information security is an important aspect that requires serious attention. One of the most important parts of information security is implementation of encryption using certain methods or techniques. This study proposes bit-based cube rotation to secure a plaintext. The aim is to produce a ciphertext that satisfies the two properties of cryptography through diffusion to produce confusion. The result shows that in a normal sentence, there is a significant change in the ciphertext which has the highest avalanche effect value of 55.47% and a correlation coefficient of 0.115. This result proves that the bit-based cube rotation can produce a good ciphertext, where the encryption result is not influenced by its original text.

Abstract

Network congestion is still a problem on the internet. The random early detection (RED) algorithm being the most notable and widely implemented congestion algorithm in routers faces the problems of queue instability and large delay arising from the presence of an ineffectual singular linear packet dropping function. This research article presents a refinement to RED, named quadratic exponential random early detection (QERED) algorithm, which exploits the advantages of two drop functions, namely quadratic and exponential in order to enhance the performance of RED algorithm. ns-3 simulation studies using various traffic load conditions to assess and benchmark the effectiveness of QERED with two improved variants of RED affirmed that QERED offers a better performance in terms of average queue size and delay metrics at various network scenarios. Fortunately, to replace/upgrade the implementation for RED algorithm with QERED’s in routers will require minimal effort due to the fact that nothing more besides the packet dropping probability profile got to be adjusted.

Abstract

The 5G system-based cognitive radio network is promised to meet the requirements of huge data applications with spectrum. However, the M-ary effect on the detection has not been thoroughly investigated. In this paper, an M-ary of quadrature amplitude modulation detection system is studied. Many rates are used in this study 4, 16, 64, and 256 constellation points. The detection system is applied to cooperative spectrum sensing to enhance the performance of detection for various rates of M-ary with low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Further, three kinds of signals based 5G system are sensed: filtered-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (F-OFDM), filter bank multi-carrier (FBMC), and universal filtered multi-carrier (UFMC). The best detection performance is obtained when the M-ary=4 and number of SUs=50 user, whereas the worst detection performance is obtained when the M-ary=256 and number of SUs=10 user, as revealed in the simulation results. In addition, the detection performance for the F-OFDM signal is better than that of UFMC and FBMC signals for SNR <0 dB.

Abstract

The purpose of data integration is to integrate the multiple sources of heterogeneous data available on the internet, such as text, image, and video. After this stage, the data becomes large. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the data that can be used for the efficient execution of the query. However, we have problems with solving entities, so it is necessary to use different techniques to analyze and verify the data quality in order to obtain good data management. Then, when we have a single database, we call this mechanism deduplication. To solve the problems above, we propose in this article a method to calculate the similarity between the potential duplicate data. This solution is based on graphics technology to narrow the search field for similar features. Then, a composite mechanism is used to locate the most similar records in our database to improve the quality of the data to make good decisions from heterogeneous sources.
