Abstract

In this paper, a new image block cipher encryption strategy for gray scale images using a different set of secret key and sizes is proposed. Initially, the swapping and dispersion is done without keys and in second stage the image is mixed with the chirikov map involving first secret key.  'N' rounds are taken to complete this process. The blended image is divided into blocks of block size 8X8.These blocks are also swapped to achieve good confusion. For making the encryption scheme more sturdy in each block the transmutation of pixels is done with the modified logistic map having three more secret keys.  The proposed scheme is simple, rapid and sensitive to the secret key. Due to the high order of substitution, common attacks such as linear and differential cryptanalysis are unattainable. The experimental results show that the proposed encryption technique is effective and has high security features.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i3.6325

Abstract

Controlling DC motors is mainly done by controlling either voltage or field of their armature. Numerous methods have been proposed so far for this purpose. Some intelligent methods such as XCSR and machine learning systems are used to control position of a separately excited DC motor. Having set output position of the motor to its basic position, voltage of armature becomes zero and the motor stops working. Characteristic features of the methods in this paper are resistance against changing friction and moment of inertia. Meanwhile, time to reach stability in this type of controllers is considerably lower than that of PID controller with no oscillations being observed in the responses.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i3.5355

Abstract

In many Muslim countries there are many sounds that are fired at nearly the same time via loudspeakers. This sound is a call-to-prayer (Azan). Azan is fired from the so-called mosques in many countries where, theses mosques are still using its own timing to trigger such call and its own amplifier gain regardless of other mosques in the region. This results in an out of sync call-to-prayer firing and a very noisy and distracting mix of sounds in many places at the same region. In this paper, a unified call-to-prayer framework is proposed that sheds light on these issues and gives solution directions for the above mentioned issues in the currently used systems.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i3.5758

Abstract

The compression of hyperspectral images (HSIs) has recently become a very attractive issue for remote sensing applications because of their volumetric data. An efficient method for hyperspectral image compression is presented. The proposed algorithm, based on Discrete Wavelet Transform and CANDECOM/PARAFAC (DWT-CP), exploits both the spectral and the spatial information in the images. The core idea behind our proposed technique is to apply CP on the DWT coefficients of spectral bands of HSIs. We use DWT to effectively separate HSIs into different sub-images and CP to efficiently compact the energy of sub-images. We evaluate the effect of the proposed method on real HSIs and also compare the results with the well-known compression methods. The obtained results show a better performance when comparing with the existing method PCA with JPEG 2000 and 3D SPECK.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i3.6326

Abstract

Extrusion is one of the important processes to manufacture and produce military and industrial components. Designing its tools is usually associated with trial and error and needs great expertise and adequate experience. Reverse extrusion process is known as one of the common processes for production of hollow parts with closed ends. The significant load required in formation of a workpiece is one of the existing constraints for the reverse extrusion process. This issue becomes rather difficult especially for the parts having thin walls since its analysis using finite element softwares is exposed to some limitations. In this regard, application of artificial intelligence for prediction of load in the reverse extrusion process will not only save time and money, but also improve quality features of the product. Based on the existing data and methods suggested for variations of punching force through the reverse extrusion process, the system is trained and then performance of the system is evaluated using the test data in this paper. Abstract

The depleting fossil fuel reserves and increasing concern towards global warming created the need to surge for the renewable energy sources. Wind and solar power generation are two of the most promising renewable power generation technologies. This paper deals with the simulation of a Solar-Photovoltaic and Wind hybrid power generation system equipped with Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The Solar-Photovoltaic Module and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) based wind turbine is simulated separately. Then they are connected to a dc bus. Since the intermittent nature of Solar and Wind makes the system unreliable, so an energy storage system SMES is introduced to reduce output fluctuations. Varying wind speed and solar irradiance value are taken as the input parameters. Abstract

In this paper, fractal Bowtie antennas are proposed. To validate our structure and to develop an analytic method to determine the geometry parameters, the Lumped theory is used. The proposed structure is simulated using CST Microwave Studio and then Compared to the electrical Model. The proposed circuit has the same resonant aspect when comparing to the Bowtie antenna with a much reduced simulation time. The Bowtie antenna has a box with a size of   44 *80 *1.5 mm3. Abstract

The aim of this paper is to compare two different control structures. The Simple Direct Power Control (DPC) and the Direct Power Control with Space Vector Modulation (DPC- SVM) for two level converter applications. The first strategy (DPC) has been developed to control the instantaneous active and reactive power directly by selecting the optimum switching state of the converter. Applied to the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) converter its main feature is to improve the total power factor and efficiency, even harmonics components existence. In the second structure, the active and reactive powers are used as (PWM) control vari- ables instead of the three-phase line currents usually used in other techniques. It is shown that DPC-SVM exhibits several properties; good dynamic response, constant switching fre- quency, and in particular it provides a sinusoidal line currents.
