Abstract

This paper proposes three types of single stage low-power RF front-end, called double-balanced LMVs, by merging LNA, mixer, and voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) exploiting a series LC (SLC) network. The low intermediate frequency (IF) or baseband signal can be directly sensed at the drain nodes of the VCO switching transistors by adding a simple resistor-capacitor (RC) low-pass filter (LPF). By adopting a double-balanced mixer topology, the strong leakage of the local oscillator (LO) at the IF output is effectively suppressed. Using a 65 nm CMOS technology, the proposed double-balanced LMVs (DB-LMVs) are designed. Oscillating at around 2.4 GHz ISM band, the phase noise of the proposed three DB-LMVs is −111 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency. The simulated voltage conversion gain is larger than 36 dB and the double-side band (DSB) noise figure (NF) is less than 7.7 dB. The DB-LMVs consume only 0.2 mW dc power from 1-V supply voltage.

Abstract

A vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a mobile ad hoc network that allows wireless communication between vehicles, as well as between vehicles and roadside equipment. Communication between vehicles promotes safety and reliability, and can be a source of entertainment. We investigated the historical development, characteristics, and application fields of VANET and briefly introduced them in this study. Advantages and disadvantages were discussed based on our analysis and comparison of various classes of MAC and routing protocols applied to VANET. Ideas and breakthrough directions for inter-vehicle communication designs were proposed based on the characteristics of VANET. This article also illustrates physical, MAC, and network layer in details which represent the three layers of VANET. The main works of the active research institute on VANET were introduced to help researchers track related advanced research achievements on the subject.

Abstract

Learning assessment deals with the process of making a decision on the quality or performance of student achievement in a number of competency standards. In the process, teacher’s preferences are provided through both test and non-test, generally in a numeric value, from which the final results are then converted into letters or linguistic value. In the proposed model, linguistic variables are exploited as a form of teacher’s preferences in non-test techniques. Consequently, the assessment data set will consist of numerical and linguistic information, so it requires a method to unify them to obtain the final value. A model that uses the 2-tuple linguistic approach and based on matrix operations is proposed to solve the problem. This study proposed a new procedure that consists of four stages: preprocessing, transformation, aggregation and exploitation. The final result is presented in 2-tuple linguistic representation and its equivalent number, accompanied by a description of the achievement of each competency. The α value of 2-tuple linguistic in the final result and in the description of each competency becomes meaningful information that can be interpreted as a comparative ability one student has related to other students, and shows how much potential is achieved to reach higher ranks. The proposed model contributes to enrich the learning assessment techniques, since the exploitation of linguistic variable as representation preferences provides flexible space for teachers in their assessments. Moreover, using the result with respect to students’ levels of each competency, students’ mastery of each attribute can be diagnosed and their progress of learning can be estimated.

Abstract

To meet the need of the computational power, most of the users may go for a cloud based services for its scalability, flexibility and reliability. Cloud services have become an integral part of IT and analytical enterprises. Owing to increase in necessity of commercial cloud products being readily available, it has become extremely difficult for users to identify suitable cloud services. This paper proposes the recommender system precisely designed for the discovery of cloud services. Though there is an exponential increase in demand for cloud services, the amount of research done in this particular field is abysmal. Cloud Service Identification System (CSIS) crawls through Internet, identifies cloud services and stores them in a database. The user’s search query is processed and recommends cloud services accurately.

Abstract

In the smart grid infrastructure based power systems, it is necessary to consider the demand side management to enhance the energy reduction and system control. In many countries the resources are very less so the available resources have to be used in an efficient manner without any loss. The total loss cannot be avoided but it can be reduced. In the proposed system, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique is used to distribute the power in the smart grid. Here, the grids are arranged in such a way that the losses in it are reduced. The load connected to the grid is rearranged according to their use. It uses a new and stochastic scheduling technique to handle the uncertainties in the power system. Solar and wind power are taken in account for twenty four hours and the values are given to the PSO algorithm. The   experiment was conducted by MATLAB and the results show that the efficiency level of wind and solar power systems was increased by an appreciable level. The proposed technique is compared with the normal system without using Demand Side Management (DSM) and it shows that the proposed system gives better results than the existing systems.

Abstract

There are a lot of papers on automatic classification between normal and pathological voices, but they have the lack in the degree of severity estimation of the identified voice disorders. Building a model of pathological and normal voices identification, that can also evaluate the degree of severity of the identified voice disorders among students. In the present work, we present an automatic classifier using acoustical measurements on registered sustained vowels /a/ and pattern recognition tools based on neural networks. The training set was done by classifying students’ recorded voices based on threshold from the literature. We retrieve the pitch, jitter, shimmer and harmonic-to-noise ratio values of the speech utterance /a/, which constitute the input vector of the neural network. The degree of severity is estimated to evaluate how the parameters are far from the standard values based on the percent of normal and pathological values. In this work, the base data used for testing the proposed algorithm of the neural network is formed by healthy and pathological voices from German database of voice disorders. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated in a term of the accuracy (97.9%), sensitivity (1.6%), and specificity (95.1%). The classification rate is 90% for normal class and 95% for pathological class.

Abstract

In each and every field of science and technology Information science plays an important role. Sometimes information science is facing different types of problems to handle the data and information. Data Uncertainty is one of the challenging difficulties to handle. In past, there are several theories like fuzzy set, Rough set, Probability etc.to dealing with uncertainty. Soft set theory is the youngest theory to deal with uncertainty. In this paper we discussed how to find reducts. This paper focuses on how we can transform a sample data set to binary valued information system. We are also going to reduce the dimension of data set by using the binary valued information that results a better decision.

Abstract

Children with mild mental retardation had several difficulties with interaction, remembering information, problem-solving, physic-motoric, learning problem, etc. Therefore, we proposed a novel framework to increase their learning skill using instructional thematic game rehabilitation framework based on Kinect sensor as the solution. Basically, the framework had three components. First, intellectual functions, which implied to the competencies reached through the game by the student. Second, instructional thematic game model, which was the concept to learn everything from the real single topic of the subject by associating to the abstract objects. Three, computer sensor device, which was the equipment as the bridge between the children and the program application. This research covered enhancement of right and left-hand recognition. We adopted Single Subject Research to evaluate the effectiveness of the system and to explore each of the individual’s progress. This process was divided into 2 steps. Namely, baseline stage and treatment stage. Apparently, from our finding, such framework gave the student an enhanced learning skill covering left-right recognition skill, decreasing the level of disturbance, and improving the level of learning independence.

Abstract

In this paper, we study the influence of external factors on the measurement for the current–voltage (I-V) characteristic of the photovoltaic cell. These factors are the size of the number of measurements, the range of the cell generated voltage and the influence of measures step and mode combination of photovoltaic cells (parallel, serial, or hybrid). The main extracted parameters solar cell are the photocurrent Iph, the reverse diode saturation current I0, the ideality factor of diode n, the series resistance Rs and the shunt resistance Rsh. A method for finding these parameters, according to the single-diode model, was developed by Newton-Raphson’s method using Matlab. To assess the accuracy of this method, measured and calculated I–V characteristics were compared with provided data by the manufacturer at standard test condition (STC). The measurement results showed that these parameters are highly dependent on these four factors.
