The fast increase of loads around the world has made electrical networks more and more complex and difficult to operate close to its capacities. This is has led to many problems such as voltage collapse and energy losses. Therefore, flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) are considred as a best solution for solving these problems. Unified Power Flow Controller UPFC is one of the most important and powerful FACTS devices due to its ability to increase the transmission capacity of the power system and reduce the total line losses. The problem of optimizing its number, location and size has become an important requirement for best advantages of this device. In this paper, a proposed relationship to identify the maximum number of FACTS devices that can be installed for a given power network is introduced in the search process code to determine the optimal number, optimal placement and size of UPFC device to enhance voltages profile and reduce overall system losses in the standard IEEE 14 bus test system using genetic algorithm (GA). The obtained results show clearly that all control parameters of UPFCs in each case are within their limits, and whenever the number of UPFCs installed increases, both voltage deviation and total losses well decreases. They also show that the application of the proposed relationship in the search process code facilitates greatly the search for optimal number, optimal placement and size of UPFC devices and reduces the calculation time. On the other hand, the obtained results has been scientifically justified and compared with other works reported in the literature.

This paper presents the importance, issues and challenges related to Smart Grid. It also evaluates various approaches for Smart Grid planning and operation. It discusses tools for asset management and their applicability to the next generation grid. Aging assets, uncertainty in load demand profile and renewable energy resources, and demand management create a challenge for the optimal operation and maintenance of electrical grid. This paper addresses the challenges and opportunities to improve transmission and distribution systems asset maintenance. This paper also presents the asset replacement alternatives. This paper also presents the cost-benefit analysis of asset management using the information/real time data from the utility company. This paper will serve a guide for doing the asset management to the electrification process, investment and recovery to sustain reliable and efficient power delivery.

Applying asymmetric key security to wireless sensor network (WSN) has been challenging task for the researcher of this field. One common trade-off is that asymmetric key architecture does provide good enough security than symmetric key but on the other hand, sensor network has some resource limitations to implement asymmetric key approach. Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) has significant advantages than other asymmetric key system like RSA, D-H etc. The most important feature of ECC is that it has much less bit requirement and at the same time, ensures better security compared to others. Hence, ECC can be a better option for implementing asymmetric key approach for sensor network. We propose a new cryptosystem which is based on Pseudo-inverse matrix and Elliptic Curve Cryptography. We establish a relationship between these two different concepts and evaluate our proposed system on the basis of the results of similar works as well as our own simulation done in TinyOS environment.

In this research, the system performance of the half-duplex two-way relay network under hardware impairment condition is presented and investigated. In this system model, the time switching protocol and amplify-and-forward (AF)-based are considered. First, of all, the analytical expressions of the outage probability, and achievable throughput with the exact closed form and asymptotic form were proposed and derived. Furthermore, the research results are derived and convinced by Monte-Carlo calculation. The numerical results demonstrated and convinced the analytical and the simulation results are agreed for all possible system parameters.

Mathematically, circles are represented by trigonometric parametric equations and implicit equations. Both forms are not proper for computer applications and CAD systems. In this paper, a quintic polynomial approximation for a circular arc is presented. This approximation is set so that the error function is of degree $10$ rather than $6$; the Chebyshev error function equioscillates $11$ times rather than $7$; the approximation order is $10$ rather than $6$. The method approximates more than the full circle with Chebyshev uniform error of $1/2^{9}$. The examples show the competence and simplicity of the proposed approximation, and that it can not be improved.

The cloud computing had its impact far and wide, and Enterprise solutions are getting migrated to different types of clouds. The services are delivered from the data centers which are located all over the world. As the data is roaming with less control in any data centers, data security issues in cloud are very challenging. Therefore we need multi-level authentication, data integrity, privacy and above all encryption to safeguard our data which is stored on to the cloud. The data and applications cannot be relocated to a virtual server without much degree of security concern as there can be much confidential data or mission-critical applications. In this paper, we propose Data Storage Lock Algorithm (DSLA) to store confidential data thereby provides secure data storage in cloud computing based on cryptographic standards.

This paper presents an efficient word spotting system applied to handwritten Arabic documents, where images are represented with bag-of-visual-SIFT descriptors and a sliding window approach is used to locate the regions that are most similar to the query by following the query-by-example paragon. First, a pre-processing step is used to produce a better representation of the most informative features. Secondly, a region-based framework is deployed to represent each local region by a bag-of-visual-SIFT descriptors. Afterward, some experiments are in order to demonstrate the codebook size influence on the efficiency of the system, by analyzing the curse of dimensionality curve. In the end, to measure the similarity score, a floating distance based on the descriptor’s number for each query is adopted. The experimental results prove the efficiency of the proposed processing steps in the word spotting system.

The aim of this research focuses on construct a computerized system for textile defects detection. The system merges between image processing methods, statistical methods in addition to the Intelligent techniques via Neural Network and Fuzzy Logic. Gabor filters were used to identify edges and to highlight defective areas in fabric images, then to train the neural network on statistical and geometry features derived from fabric images to form the special neural network distinguish and classify defects into the fourteen categories, which are the most common defects in the textile factory. The proposed work includes two phases. The first phase is to detect the defects in fabrics. The second phase is the classification phase of the defect. At the defect detection stage, a Discrete Cosine Transfer (DCT) converts the images to the frequency domain. Image features then drawn and introduce them to the Elman Neural Network to detect the existence of defects. In the classification stage, the images are converted to the frequency domain by the Gabor filter and then the image features are extracted and inserted into the back propagation network to classify the fabric defects in those images. Fuzzy logic is then applied to neural network outputs and interference values are used in fuzzy logic to increase final discrimination. We evaluate a distinction rate of 91.4286% .After applying the fuzzy logic to neural network output; the discrimination rate was raised to 97.1428%.

This paper presents three different hybrid classification techniques applied for the first time in real-time online fingerprint classification. Classification of online real time fingerprints is a complex task as it involves adaptation and tuning of classifier parameters for better classification accuracy. To accomplish the optimal adaptation of parameters of functional link artificial neural network (FLANN) for real-time online fingerprint classification, proven and established optimizers, such as Biogeography based optimizer (BBO), Genetic algorithm (GA), and Particle swarm optimizer (PSO) are intelligently infused with it to form hybrid classifiers. The global features of the real-time fingerprints are extracted using a Gabor filter-bank and then passed into adaptive hybrid classifiers for the desired classification as per the Henry system. Three hybrid classifiers, the optimized weight adapted Biogeography based optimized functional link artificial neural network (BBO-FLANN), Genetic algorithm based functional link artificial neural network (GA-FLANN) and Particle swarm optimized functional link artificial neural network (PSO-FLANN), are explored for real-time online fingerprint classification, where the PSO-FLANN technique is showing superior performance as compared to GA-FLANN and BBO-FLANN techniques. The best accuracy observed by the application of PSO-FLANN, is 98% for real-time online fingerprint classification.

In this paper, we propose a new recommendation for improving lumen output (LO) and CCT deviation (D-CCT) of the 7700 K RPW-LEDs by K2SiF6:Mn4+ red phosphor. Based on Light Tool and Mat Lab simulation software, we can see that the D-CCT and LO can be improved significantly, but the CQS and CRI have a slight decrease with increasing the concentration of the red phosphor. Besides, the analytical and simulation results agree well with each other.
