Abstract

The objectives of this study were 1) to evaluate the diversity of forages commonly fed to goats in Pasrujambe village; 2) to introduce moringa leaves as a protein source for growing goats under village management conditions. Ninety goat farmers were surveyed on the profiles of goat farming and the diversity of forages offered to their goats during the dry season. To evaluate the impact of moringa leaves supplementation, 26 growing goats (less than one year old) were alloted into two unequal groups, that is control group (7 heads) and supplemented group (19 heads) for four months during which observations on feed intake, daily gain and feed conversion were taken place. The results indicates that most goat farmers (73,3%) have been practising more than 25 years, while the rest (26,7%) was keeping goats less than 5 years. The sex ratio of goats kept by the farmers was 67,4% female: 32,6% male. There were 49 species of forages commonly fed to goats in Pasrujambe that can be grouped into 5 species of grasses, 3 species of tree legumes, 29 species of tree leaves and 12 species of herbaceous. There were significant improvement in feed intake (P

Abstract

Probolinggo Regency especially Sukapura is one of potato production center area since this area is very suitable for potato plants. Some problems are always faced by the farmers in that area was restrictiveness of capital such as wide of land, seeds, fertilizer, medicines, and employees. This research aimed to find out the productivity of potato, factors affecting potato production, income of farmer business entity of potato, and efficiency of product ion cost at farmer business entity of potato. The research method used was descriptive and correlation method, by determining the area purposively (purposive method). The method used to take the example was Disproportionate Stratified Random Sampling Method by stratum of area’s height. The data collection was done by using primary and secondary data. The data analysis used covered: (1) analysis of productivity index to know the productivity of potato, (2) analysis of production function of Cobb-Douglas to know the factors affecting the potato productivity, (3) analysis of income to know the profit of potato farmers, and (4) analysis of R/C ratio to know the efficiency of production cost at farmer business entity of potato. The research result done showed that: (1) the potato productivity was 12,797.78 kg/ha; (2) the potato productivity was affected by the wide of land, seeds, fertilizer, medicines, employees, and height of location, (3) the farmer business entity of potato was profitable, and (4) the use of production cost at farmer business entity of potato was efficient (R/C = 1,72)

Abstract

The experiment was conducted at Genteng experiment station during January – December 2008. The objective of the experiment is to evaluate yield potential and starch content on grafting cassava (mukibat system). The experiment was arranged in a randomized complet block design with three replication. The first factor are four cassava varieties (Adira 4, UJ-5, Kaspro and local Dampit). The grafting system and ordinary cassava as the second factor. The grafting cassava (mukibat) planted with kenong system (plant/hill), plant spacing 1,5 m x 1,5 m and ordinary cassava planted in flat bad system, plant spacing 100 cm x 60 cm The fertilitation were 300 kg Urea + 100 kg SP-36 + 100 kg KCl ha-1 and fertilation 5 t/ha. The weed control were two times ( at two and four month after planting). The result showed that Adira 4, UJ-5, Kaspro dan Lokal Dampit varieties yielded 90,4 – 99,67 t/ha, with grafting system (mukibat). While the ordinary system yielded 54,3 t – 61,87 t/ha. There are positif corelation among tuber number, tuber diameter and tuber weight per plant with tuber yield. The starch content on mukibat system decrease 0,7 – 2,23% compared with ordinary system. UJ-5 variety has relatively stabil starch content and higher comparing the other variety. The grafting system needs higher cost production (Rp 8.491.000,-) than ordinary system.(Rp 7.971.000,-). The benefit of grafting system increase up to 90,5% from ordinary system and B/C ratio was 4,1
