Abstract

UIN Sunan Ampel is a campus with strategic location, because it is close to various public facility buildings, such as health facilities, offices and entertainment, as well as its presence near public transportation / traffic access which is quite high. This certainly has positive and negative impacts on the campus environment of UIN Sunan Ampel. The positive impact is in the form of ease mobilization for campus community, while one of the negative impacts is noise (noise pollution) caused by traffic around the campus, which can interfere when the teaching and learning process takes place. This research method is quantitative descriptive. Noise data obtained with a sound level meter at 12 sampling points. The data is analyzed by statistical methods and the results are compared with the noise quality standard based on the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. Kep - 48 / MENLH / 11/1996. Then a noise distribution map was made with the application of Surfer 11. The results showed that the value of the noise level at the UIN Sunan Ampel campus had exceeded the permitted quality standard. The noise distribution map shows that the highest noise value is shown in red with the noise level value ≥ 70 dbA. The risk due to noise that occurs at UIN Sunan Ampel campus has exceeded the limit is not conducive environmental condition, such as an impact on learning convenience. So that it is necessary to handle the noise, such as planting trees as a barrier of noise sources and designing a room that are added with soundproof material, that has sound absorbing properties.

Abstract

Palm oil fly ash (POFA) is one of the solid wastes produced from burning palm kernel shells and coir as a steam generator for palm oil mills. POFA has a high silica content and might potentially to be used as an adsorbent. The removal of impurity metals and the separation of SiO2 by extraction process is a way to improve the performance of silica. The extraction process is influenced by several factors including the solid/liquid ratio and the stirring time. This study used a solid/liquid ratio of 1: 8, 1:10, 1:12 and a stirring time of 120; 150; 180; and 210 minutes. The results showed the highest mass of silica deposits was at a ratio of 1:12 and stirring time of 210 minutes with a mass of 18.35 grams or 73.4% of 25 grams of POFA with a silica content of 47.97% and a silica surface area 8.18 m2/g. Silica from each variation was tested on peat water. The highest removal efficiency of color, organic matter, and Fe were 80%, 46%, and 37% respectively by the extracted silica with a solid/liquid ratio 1:12 and stirring time 210 minutes.

Abstract

The development of culinary business at Culinary Tourism Centre (CTC) has produced domestic wastewater from dish washing activities and food residues. One CTC in Tambaksari District, Surabaya City has not had Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) yet. The CTC only has equalization tank for accommodating wastewater before discharged into the water body. This research aimed to determine the characteristics of domestic wastewater from the CTC and to design the appropriate WWTP in the CTC. The standard was based on the Regulation of the East Java Governor Number 72 Year 2013. The result showed that the concentrations of TSS, grease and oil, BOD, COD were 14 mg/L, 1.59 mg/L, 1154.8 mg/L, and 2054.8 mg/L, respectively. The WWTP units consisted of a grease trap, an equalization tank, primary sedimentation tank, anaerobic tank, aerobic tank, and secondary sedimentation tank. The estimated cost to build the WWTP was IDR 278,093,774.

Abstract

Tofu industrial wastewater is a contributor to environmental pollution. Wastewater contains high levels of COD and TSS. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of reducing pollutant loads in tofu liquid waste by using the phytoremediation method using water jasmine (Echinodorus Palaefolius). The initial stage of the research was a preliminary test to determine the initial content of the waste. The acclimatization process is carried out by observing the process of plant growth during the research process. To maximize plant growth, dilution is carried out with various concentrations of 25% wastewater with 75% diluting water and 50% wastewater with 50% diluting water. Sampling was carried out every 12 hours for 5 days. The results showed that the highest effectiveness of COD reduction occurred in RFT 25% with a residence time of 12 hours at 39.83%, while for TSS parameters the highest effectiveness was at RFT 25% with a residence time of 12 hours by 69%.

Abstract

In its operational activities, CV. X, which is engaged in wood processing, has the potential to cause noise from machines used in the pallet production process. Noise in this company can affect the health and comfort of workers. This study aims to determine the intensity of noise produced by the production machine, the length of time of exposure, noise mapping and noise control efforts. The noise measurement method refers to the noise mapping method and the instrument used is the Sound Level Meter (SLM). The data obtained were then processed into contour maps with variations in blue, green, yellow, purple and red. The results showed the highest noise level was 99.4 dB and the lowest noise level was 67,3 dB. Based on the results of calculations using the NIOSH equation from 128 measurement points of the noise mapping method, there are 38 points with a noise level> 85 dB which indicates the exposure time is above the standard recommended by NIOSH. The highest noise level was 99.4 dB with an exposure time of 0,3 hours and the lowest noise level was 67.3 dB with an exposure time of 475 hours. Control measures that can be made to reduce noise include control from sources, transmission lines, and receivers.

Abstract

This research aimed to utilize Anadara Granosa (Blood clam shell) clamshell waste as a new innovation in concrete technology and to investigate the effect of Anadara Granosa clamshell powder utilization as an aggregate substitution on the concrete compressive strength. The sample size was made of cylinders with a size of 10 cm x 20 cm with variations of clamshell powder 10%, 20% and 30% from the fine aggregate volume then soaked for 28 days as per the method of the Indonesian National Standard. The evaluation results exhibited that the slump value exceeded the slump value of normal concrete with a slump value of 0% = 160 mm, 10% = 165 mm, 20% = 180 mm and 30% = 180 mm. Additionally, it was found that the concrete compressive strength obtained post 28 days were 20.78 Mpa, 21.95 Mpa, 21.17 Mpa and 24.28 Mpa for normal concrete (0%), substitution concrete (10%), substitution concrete (20%) and substitution concrete (30%), respectively. Leading on from these results, it was concluded that the increment of Anadara Granosa clamshell powder substitution led to the increase of concrete compressive strength test.
