Abstract

This paper is aimed to: (1) identify the types of code mixing used by radio broadcasters of Pesona FM radio program of song requests; (2) determine the functions of code mixing used by the radio broadcaster in the radio program. The data in this paper are all words, phrases, and clauses or sentences that belong to the code mixing. Data sources are obtained from recording of conversation between the radio broadcasters and listeners in the radio program. The method used in this paper is descriptive. Data was analyzed using the theory advanced by McKay and Nancy (1996: 58-60) for classifying the types of code mixing such as inserting of word, inserting of phrases, and inserting of a clause or sentence. The theory also used to classify the functions of code mixing such as identity marking, strategy of neutrality, stylistic function, and socio-expressive function. From a total of 82 data, the researchers found 44 data (53.65%) belongs to the inserting of word, the 26 data (31.70%) belong to the inserting of phrases and 12 data (14.63%) belongs to the inserting of a clause or sentence. The inserting of word is the most dominant type of code mixing used and the inserting of a clause or sentence is the least. Furthermore, from the 82 data, the researchers also discovered the function of code mixing and found 8 data (9.75%) were included into the identity marking, 4 data (4.87%) were included into the strategy of neutrality, 53 of data (64.63%) belongs to the stylistic function, and 17 data (20.73%) belongs to the socio-expressive function. In the function of the code mixing, the stylistic function is the most dominant function used, while the identity marking is the least.CODE MIXING USED BY RADIO BROADCASTER OF PESONA FMON RADIO PROGRAM OF SONG REQUEST

Abstract

This paper aims to identify the attitudes of farmers towards Indonesian language in Alahan Panjang and factors of what makes the farmers in Alahan Panjang had an attitude. This research was descriptive quantitative field that describes the attitude of farmer opinion against the phenomenon of language attitude occurred. This attitude derived from the distribution of research questionnaires and interviews to farmers in Alahan Panjang which has business associates in Indonesian language. Their age restrictions on farmers is between 30-55 years. The results showed 92 out of a total of 100 farmers in Alahan Panjang were used as participants in the study showed a negative attitude towards Indonesian. They are not proud and do not want to use the Indonesian language in which they are located. There are several factors that cause these farmers Indonesian negative towards such social factors, a situation the use of language, gender, prestige, and cultural factors. The results of this study prove that farmers in Alahan Panjang do not want to use the Indonesian language in communication. They will only use the Indonesian language when communicating with people who only understand Indonesian.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to know the words that still maintained in Sungai Landia and the factors that those words still exist. The data were collected through interview from 10 informants. Based on findings, there are 111 words that still maintained in Sungai Landia. It consists of 34 nouns, 27 adjectives, 34 verbs, 8 adverb (times), 5 adverb (degrees), and 3 directionals. The factors that those words still maintained, such language loyalty and pride of language itself, globalization, customs, population and location, the concern for the language. Based on findings and discussion, Sungai Landia’s people should increase language maintenance so that language shift or language death will never happen.

Abstract

This article discuss about Word formation that conceived of as the process by which words are brought into existence. This suggests that words do not exist in a vacuum; they are usually composed. This research examines autistic child in SLB Padang as a participant in conversation activity who use word formation process when communicate with other. Conversation activity was used to collect data about word formation process used by autistic child and also qualitative and descriptive method to describe and explain the processes of word formation used by autistic child. the aim of this paper to discover the word formation process used by autistic child  when communicating with people especially when the teacher in the teaching and learning process in schools. From a linguistic point, an autistic child is a child who has limitations in the areas of socialization and communication. The processes of word formation were analyzed by morphological studies. The formation processes of autistic children found word in a conversation with the teacher, namely: derivation, reduplication, acronym and initialism, borrowing, clipping, compounding and blending. From the data analysis found that the dominant word formation process used autistic child is a derivation. The data used was conversation between teacher and autistic child were recorded and transcribed when the process of teaching and learning in class. The collected data are grouped based on the process of forming words.

Abstract

Politeness strategies (strategi kesantunan) are ways that used by someone to convey her/his utterances politely. Politeness strategies can be observed in daily life and in talk shows. One of the most famous popular talk shows among Indonesia’s viewer is Hitam Putih talk show. This paper aims to describe the types of politeness strategies and dominant politeness strategies used by Deddy Corbuzier in interviewing especially in asking guest stars. Theory that used to describe an analysis of politeness strategies is Brown and Levinson theory (1987). There are four politeness strategies that are classified by Brown and Levinson, they are Bald on Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness and Off Record. This result finding shows that the host of Hitam Putih talk show used four types of politeness strategies with different presentations. The most dominant politeness srategy used was Positive Politeness with 58 %. Another dominant politeness strategy used was Bald on Record (18 %), Negative Politeness (15 %) dan Off Record (9 %). It can be concluded that positive politeness strategy (strategi kesantunan positif) is the most dominant strategy used by the host in Hitam Putih talk show.
