Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of showing dignity which is done by Black person and to know the contribution of the plot, spectacle, and character in revealing the showing dignity. This analysis is related to the concept of life instincts by Freud, the concept of self-awareness by Crisp-Turner and the concept of power by Michel Foucault that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the protagonist succeeds to show his dignity that can be seen from his knowledge and good manners.

Abstract

Language is the oldest tool of communication which already exists from the first time humans were created. The use of language, at first and with the simplest form, is the form of nonverbal, which is language of symbol, sign, body language, face expression, and gesture forms. However, the study of language as a field of linguistics is the language in the form of words, or can be called as academic language. But, even academic language also has errors in their written conversation. Even less, these errors are done by the academic people itself. Based on the analysis of the data, it can be seen that there are 6 types of conversations occur in WhatsApp Group Chats “SASING UNP” and has 24% of error from total data that analysed was 118 utterances. However, another result of this research proved the hypothesis of researcher, which the dominant conversation happened, was used both verbal and nonverbal.

Abstract

Skripsi ini merupakan analisa dari lima puisi berjudul Characteristic of life, Trophic Cascade, The Peditrician Consider His Lobby, How Great The Gardens When They Thrive, and Natural History. Topik yang dibahas adalah bagaimana kejahatan manusia dibalik environmentalism. Permasalahan dari kajian ini  strategi politik yang dibuat oleh manusia terhadap lingkungan tanpa memperhatikan efek jangka panjang. Tujuan dari analisa ini adalah untuk mengetahui sejauh mana elemen puisi (irony, repetition, tone, dan speaker) berperan dalam mengungkap kejahatan manusia terhadap lingkungan. Analisa dilakukan melalui interpretasi teks dan dikaitkan dengan konsep Ecocriticism dari Garrard, Sahu, Glotfelty and Estok. Hasil dari analisa ini menunjukkan bahwa manusia  melakukan seleksi terhadap binatang dan tumbuhan. Mengubah genetik dari tumbuhan, dan melakukan kontrol terhadap populasi.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of inability to trust people which is done by an immigrant child who was separated multiple times from his family. The purpose of this study is to know the contribution of character, plot (conflict), and setting in revealing the inability to trust people. This analysis is related to the concept of neurosis by Sigmund Freud and Psychosocial Development by Erik Erikson that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the protagonist suffers from social relationship and mental problem that can be seen from his attitude and behavior.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of speaking back to European’s idea of greatness which is done by a Moorish slave.Fictional devices such ascharacter, plot (conflict), and setting are used to analyze this novel. The analysis is done through text and context-based interpretation. This study relates to the concept of orientalism and otherness by Edward W.Said. The result of this study shows the character succeeds to speak back to European’s idea of greatness by showing his dignity and his high intelligence.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Autistic savant as one of the language disorders can be found in daily life and it also can be portrayed in literary works and films. An autistic savant is a person with autism who has the limitation in most social functions but has cognitive abilities, such as possessing some outstanding memories and computational skills. This research aims to find out the types of language disorder and to find out the dominant type of language disorders found in autistic savant portrayed in Levinson’s Rain Man film. This research used a descriptive method. The data used in this research were the utterances of an autistic savant. The result of this research shows that the type of expressive language disorder was obtained with the occurrence percentage of 67.7% while the receptive language disorder type was obtained by the occurrence percentage of 32.3%. From this percentage, it can be seen that the most dominant type of language disorders experienced by autistic savant in Rain Man film is expressive language disorder. It means the autistic savant as an adult person also has difficulty in expressing or producing language. Key words: language disorder, autistic savant, expressive language disorder, receptive language disorder

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of Borderline Personality Disordere which is represented by the main character and to know the contribution of the plot, setting, and character in revealing the Borderline Personality Disorder. This analysis is related to the concept neurosis by Freud that is supported by the text-based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the main character has Borderline Personality Disorder that can be seen from the main character’s inappropriate emotional reactions and highly self-destructive behaviors.

Abstract

Word formation is the process of creating new words based on the word itself, or the other words. It means the new words can be created by shortens the words itself, combining them to the other words, add affixes to give grammatical information, etc. The aim of this study is to know the types of word formation used in a literary work, in this case, a novel. The object of this study is the 16th chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone written by J. K. Rowling. Type of this study is descriptive. The data were analyzed by using O’Grady & Archibald theory about word formation. The result shows that there were 340 words with the frequency 755 times have word formation process. Inflection (64.1%) becomes the most frequently used, and compounding (4.5%) becomes the less frequently used.

Abstract

This research describes about how men and women used euphemism in ‘Indonesia Lawyers Club’ TV One show which limited to the types and functions of euphemism used by men and women.  The source of data was obtained from transcript of the 4 videos aired on December 2017, Januari 208 and February 2018. From the analysis, there were 72 utterances contain euphemistic expression, 33 utterances delivered by men and 39 remarks spoken by women.  In this show researcher found 9 types of euphemism, namely: metaphor, hyperbole, circumlocution, initialism, jargon, figurative expression, understatement, colloquial, and hypernym. From the types mention above, men mostly used euphemism in the type of understatement while women mostly prefer to use jargon. Furthermore, researcher found 5 function of euphemism in this show; euphemism as doublespeak, as a shield to avoid taboo and offense, as uplifting tool, to show solidarity or define certain group, and to entertain.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of masculinity terror which have done through women in the Democratic Republic of Congo and to know the contribution of the character, plot/conflict, and setting in revealing the masculinity terror. This analysis is related to the feminist concept by Catharine MacKinnon that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the characters experience the masculinity terror that can be seen from their mental and physical condition.
