Abstract

Abstract The South China Sea dispute involves People’s Republic of China (PRC) against Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Brunei Darussalam. The South China Sea Dispute was caused by claimant state and nine dashed line which made by PRC. Instead of resist, Brunei Darussalam in South China Sea Conflict took considerable different gesture other than the rest belligerent parties like Vietnam, Malaysia, Philipines, and Indonesia. Brunei did not show any resistance to PRC regarding territorial claimants and instead cooperates with Asian giants controversial move. Brunei Darussalam took a stand by bandwagoning against the PRC. Brunei’s behaviour was identified by Balance of Threat theory by Stephen Walt. As a result, there is a very unbalanced capability and power capacity measure between the combined power capacity of Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia with PRC. It made worse by the Brunei’s economic crisis. Keywords: south china sea; brunei darussalam; people republic of china; bandwagoning.

Abstract

Since Australia was still a colonial territory under Great Britain, the Australian colonial administration had a goal of making Australia a regional power that had interests in the Pacific region, specifically the South Pacific. The South Pacific region itself is an area that has already been proven to have considerable natural wealth, ranging from an abundance of marine biota wealth, oil reserves which have been discovered and also have not been explored, and mineral wealth lying beneath the Pacific Earth makes this area as a very interesting area to control. The widespread influence of Australia in the Pacific region makes Australia a country that has large bargaining power in exploration and exploitation projects of natural resources in the region. This article uses the concepts of the theory of Hegemony and Regionalism with descriptive qualitative research methods which sets out some examples of cases of Australia's role as a regional power in the exploitation of natural resources in the Pacific region. Australia as a regional power in the Pacific shows a tendency to control the natural resources that are buried in the region. Various methods such as military, economic and social interventions are carried out by Australia to benefit from the natural wealth in the Pacific region.

Abstract

This paper will discuss the United States policy under Donald Trump's administration which places migration as an agenda of securitization by restricting immigrants from entering the United States, especially Muslim immigrants. Trump firmly said to reject the entry of immigrants from six Muslim countries, namely Chad, Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia and Yemen. Trump also added that the ban on the entry of immigrants was also applied to Venezuelans and North Koreans. The step was taken by Trump with the aim of ensuring the security of the United States from various threats potentially brought by the immigrants. Then, this paper will answer the big questions about how securitization of migration affected the emergence of Islamophobia in the United States. In analyzing these problems, we use the concept of securitization of migration with four operational variables, namely: 1. Framing by speech acts, 2. Politicization of fear, 3. The impacts (positive and negative): Securitization policy and the islamophobia actions. The results of this study indicate that securitization of migration process has an impact on the increasing actions of Islamophobia-based in the United States. Keywords: Securitization of Migration, Travel Ban Policy, Islamophobia, United States

Abstract

Abstract

Sierra Leone was one of the countries with the largest use of child soldiers during the civil war between 1991-2002. Girl child soldiers made up to 30 percent of the total child soldiers involved in the Sierra Leone civil war. The Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration program (DDR) which was one of the UN mandate as a post-conflict peace consolidation could only reach 506 out of a total of 6,845 child soldiers who have been disarmed. This was because the requirement for the disarmament phase was to hand in their weapon, while many girls were not equipped with weapon by their armed forces commander considering that most of them acted as cooks, house workers, and bush wives. UNICEF and IRC as international organizations then carried out further DDR projects with more gender-responsive and community-based with gender mainstreaming and inclusive citizenship policies to enforce children rights of Sierra Leonean girl soldiers who previously had not included in DDR program. This paper will discuss the enforcement of children rights of Sierra Leonean girl soldiers in the furtjer DDR projects.
