Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the availability and uptake of phosphate with the application of potassium and phosphate fertilizers in brunizem soil.  The experiment was arranged in a factorial completely Randomized Design which tested various levels of KCl (no calium, 0.2 g/5 kg soil and 0.4 g/5 kg soil) and SP-36 (no fosfat, 0.35 g/5 kg soil and 0.70 g/5 kg soil) fertilizers. The result showed a significant effect of potassium fertilizer treatments on soil pH. The best rate of potassium fertilizer was 0.4 g KCl per pot or 160 kg KCl ha-1.  Phosphate fertilizer treatment gave a significant effect on soil pH, available phosphate and phosphate uptake.  The best rate of phosphate fertilization was 0.70 g SP-36 per pot or 240 kg SP-36 ha-1.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the best level of phosphate basic fertilization for seed production of Hulaliu corn varieties with high viability and vigor.  This study was conducted in two places, namely in Booi Village, Saparua Subdistrict, Central Maluku District, for experiment with phosphate fertilization treatment, and in the Laboratory of Balai Besar Perbenihan dan Proteksi Tanaman Perkebunan Maluku in Passo, Baguala Subdistrict, Ambon, for testing seed viability and vigor.  The experimental design used was a single factor Randomized Block Design with five levels of phosphate fertilization, consisting of  P1 = 50 kg P2O5 per ha; P2 = 55 kg P2O5 per ha;. P3 = 60 kg P2O5 per ha; P4 = 65 kg P2O5 per ha, P5 = 70 kg P2O5 per ha = 70 kg, and with three replications.  The results showed that the optimal levels of phosphate fertilization to enhance seed viability and vigor of Hulaliu local corn varieties were between 55 to 70 kg P2O5 per ha.

Abstract

Solid waste management is an old problem in urban areas.  High population growth rates have caused the increasing amount of wastes generated. One of the efforts to solve the problem is to recycle the organic wastes by composting. The purpose of this research was to find out the influence of effective inoculants PROMI and EM4 on decomposition rate and compost quality from municipal waste in Ambon. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in single factor experiment using 2 effective inoculants, i.e. PROMI (no Promi = P0, 24 gr Promi/10 kg organic waste = P1, 48 gr Promi/10 kg organic waste = P2) and EM4 (no EM4 = E0, 150 ml EM4/10 kg organic waste = E1, 300 ml EM4/10 kg organic waste = E2). The treatments consisted of the 2 types of inoculants with 3 dosages of each, and 3 replications. The result showed that the addition of effective inoculant EM4 with a dosage of 300 ml per 10 kg organic waste (E2) was more effective compared to the other treatments in accelerating the decomposition rate in 28 days. This was supported by decomposition rate indicators, such as compost physical characteristics, C/N ratio (11.56), and the increased compost quality, such as pH (8.03), Nitrogen (2.91%), Phosphorus (141.33 mg per 100g P2O5), Potassium (553.67 mg per100g K2O). This compost was in accordance to Indonesia National Standard (INS) or Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) of organic manure No. 19-7030-2004.

Abstract

Maluku in general and Ambon municipality in particular is a region with the lowest peanut production as compared to its national production. Cambisol is one of soil type that has good soil physical properties, but it is low in N and P contents and has an acidic reaction that inhibit the growth of peanut plants.  The research was conducted in a plastic house in Halong Village, Teluk Ambon Baguala Subdistrict, from April to Juli 2012. This research used a Completely Randomized Design with two factors, i.e. factor 1 with three levels of dolomite fertilization, consisting of D0 (without dolomite), D1 (0.3g dolomite per pot), D2 (0.6 g dolomite per pot), and factor 2 with three levels of phosphate fertilization consisting of P0 (without phosphate fertilizer), P1 (0.7 g SP-36 per pot) and P2 (1.4 SP-36 per pot). The results showed that the application of SP-36 increased the number of root nodules and yield of peanut. Response was even better if accompanied by the application of dolomite. Leaf N uptake could be enhanced by application SP-36, but it was independ from the application of dolomite. The highest peanut yield of 41.83 g per pot was achieved with the fertilizer combination of D1P2  (0.3 g dolomite per pot and  1.4 g SP36 per pot)

Abstract

The study was conducted to quantify the land use changes that have occurred in the watershed Batugajah and evaluate the impact of changes in land use to changes in surface flow, inter flow and base flow. The results showed that the change in land use in the watershed Batugajah of the year 1998-2010 as follows: The decline occurred from 215.70 ha forest area to forest area 58.88 ha or 28.73% decrease, increasing the wide use of residential land of 25 ha to 183.62 ha, an increase of 29.06%; vast improvement hamlet of 155, 65 ha to 221.78 ha, an increase of 12.12%. The impact of land use changes as follows: Runoff increased from 2288.35 mm to 2291.35 mm; annual runoff  increased from 2525.81 mm to 2646.70 mm; interflo) increased from 103.382 mm to 244.99 mm; Water yield increased from 210.48 mm to 220.56 mm and the base flow  dropped 141.07 mm to 110.35 mm.

Abstract

One of the major pests that attack nutmeg plants is Batocera Hercules, which can reduce yield both in quantity and quality. An investigation with an aim to determine the level of Batocea hercules attack on three types of nutmeg trees was conducted in Wakate Subdistrict, Watubela Island, Maluku. The study used a survey method by direct observations in the farmers' nutmeg cultivation areas in District Wakate, Watubela Island. The results showed that the attack level by Batocera hercules the cultivation area of the study was 19.19%, with the number of bore holes 2.08. The major attacks occurred on the nutmeg types of Banda, Onin, and cross, at 23.01%, 30.28% and 4.28% intensities, respectively.  The intensity of attacks were affected by nutmeg cultural techniques and climatic factors.

Abstract

Cucumber is consumed regularly by inhabitants of Buru District of the Maluku Province, and, its productivity needs to be optimized. Soil tillage and plant density in cucumber cultivation have Influences on competition for nutrient intake, water and light and hence affect plant yield. The aim of this field experiment was to study growth and yield responses of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) on different soil tillage systems and planting densities. The field experiment was arranged in a factorial Randomized Block Design to examine several tillage methods (one and two) and planting densities (25 x 25 cm, 40 x 40 cm and 45 x 55 cm). The experimental results showed that there was no effect of interaction between soil tillage and planting density on all variable observed. Single and double tillage methods increased fruit number, fruit diameter, fruit length, fruit weight and root length of cucumber, while planting density gave no effect on all variables measured. Therefore, either single or double tillages and any planting densities tested in this experiment could be recommended in cucumber cultivation in Buru District of Maluku Province.
