Abstract

PT Jawa Pos Holding is a major media company with a network across various provinces in Indonesia. In 2017, a conflict among shareholders led to Dahlan Iskan, the chairman, leaving the company. This situation impacted PT Jawa Pos Holding’s media landscape. This research explores the aftermath of Dahlan Iskan’s separation from the company. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, it reveals a shift in media ownership concentration at PT Jawa Pos Holding, marked by the transfer of several media outlets to Dahlan Iskan’s Disway Daily. The need for Dahlan Iskan, still a reader magnet, drove this transfer, which occurred without significant conflict due to the fluid and non-structural patron - client relationship between PT Jawa Pos Holding and its media followers.

South Kalimantan is an area that has a high level of vulnerability to flood disasters every year. This article was written with the aim of revealing the framing of flood-related news carried out by the online media Teras.7, which consists of related news before the disaster occurred, when the disaster occurred and after the disaster occurred. The limitation of this research is that the news analysis focuses on only one online media, namely terrace7.com. Abstract

Indonesia's cultural preservation faces significant challenges in the era of globalization, especially in attracting the younger generation. This research explores the innovation diffusion strategy implemented by Larasati Art Studio in Purbalingga in efforts to preserve traditional culture. Using a qualitative case study methodology, data was collected through in-depth interviews and observations. The results show that Larasati Art Studio applies an innovation diffusion strategy through the gradual adoption of digital technology, starting with the use of Instagram, Google Business, and YouTube. This strategy is reinforced by active involvement in local and national art communities, which accelerates the innovation adoption process. The studio also combines digital innovation with active participation in various traditional art events, creating a holistic approach to cultural preservation. Although social media engagement levels still need improvement, this strategy has successfully increased the studio's visibility, member participation, and young people's interest in traditional arts. This research demonstrates how the Diffusion of Innovation Theory can be applied in the context of cultural preservation in Indonesia, supporting the achievement of SDGs, especially Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of civil-military relations in the post New Order era as depicted in the film Autobiography. Furthermore, the researcher examines the impact of New Order cultural legacies evident in the film. Autobiography is the first political thriller film after the Reformasi era to reflect the enduring hegemonic influence of military power in contemporary socio-political life. The researcher employs a qualitative-descriptive approach and John Fiske's codes of television concept. The study reveals that the film represents the impact of military dominance across three levels: reality, representation, and ideology. At the reality level, military attributes and the behavior of the character Purna affirm his position as a dominant authority. At the representation level, cinematic techniques such as lighting and dialogue create a tense atmosphere that reflects the military's psychological control over civilians. Finally, at the ideology level, the film's narrative exposes power imbalances and the authoritarian legacies of the past, which continue to influence Indonesia's social and political structures.

Abstract

The emergence of female directors in the Indonesian film industry is expected to be able to represent female characters in films based on the perspective of women themselves. However, in the film YUNI by female director Kamila Andini, a scene was found showing the female lead wearing revealing clothing. This is identical to the concept of the male gaze which makes women the object of the gaze and positions women only as complementary objects or inferior groups. Therefore, the author wants to look more deeply at how women are represented in the film using Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis which goes through the stages of analyzing the subject-object position and the audience position. Based on the results of the analysis, Kamila Andini is in the position of a woman who criticizes the issues experienced by women in a unique way, and deconstructs the old representation of women who are considered an inferior group. Meanwhile, to see the public's perception of the image of women, further research is needed that discusses the perception of Indonesian society towards the image or impression of Indonesian women today.

Abstract

Power relations based on patriarchal hierarchies strengthen the marginalization of contemporary women artists in Bangkalan Regency, in the form of social pressure, negative stigma, and dominant norms. The Xpresif Women's Community was formed as an effort to seize control over life narratives and build a more complete identity. This study aims to reveal the communication behavior and forms of resistance of contemporary art women in the Perempuan Xpresif community. Using qualitative methods with data collection through observation, interviews and documentation. Referring to James C. Scott's theory of resistance and Hélène Cixous' theory of feminist body writing, the results show that the resistance carried out is divided into two forms, namely open resistance and closed resistance. Open resistance is in the form of rejecting the rules of power relations, indifference by surviving to become a woman of art and giving birth to performance art works such as Matodus which challenges stereotypes of women's bodies. Closed resistance is carried out such as hiding art activities, hidden cries, and symbolic actions as a strategy to maintain autonomy over their bodies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of women depicts in Indonesian Dangdut and Pop song lyrics that raise the theme of love. To see patterns of representation in the selection and use of words in song lyrics, the framework of representation theory and cultural feminism is used. The results of research using the corpus-assisted discourse studies (CADS) method show that the representation of women still leads to physical objectification, women are the subject of emotional experiences, and women are seen as subordinate figures in romantic relationships. Using the framework of representation theory and cultural feminism to analyze the findings, it is seen that there is complexity and contradiction in the representation of women. Although there have been efforts to represent them positively, dangdut mostly represent women as the subjects of the bitterness of love. While pop songs emphasize women more as objects of beauty. Both genre still reinforce gender stereotypes. Through this study, it is clear that changes need to be made to encourage a more empowering representation of women in popular culture.it can be concluded that changes need to be made to encourage a more empowering representation of women in popular culture.

Abstract

In 2023, Indonesia faced a severe climate and environmental crisis. Issues such as the waste crisis, air pollution, and natural disasters called for social movements. Digital activism on social media emerged as a powerful tool to drive change. On its 111th anniversary, Muhammadiyah raised the theme "Ikhtiar Menyelamatkan Semesta", utilizing social media to raise awareness and encourage the public to care for the environment. The aim of this research is to analyze the social media network on X/Twitter through the hashtag #Milad111Muhammadiyah as a form of digital activism by Muhammadiyah netizens in voicing concerns over the climate and environmental crisis. This research uses a descriptive qualitative analysis of conversations related to the theme "Ikhtiar Menyelamatkan Semesta," focusing on social media data from X/Twitter during the period of November 16-22, 2023, with the keyword #Milad111Muhammadiyah. The research concept uses the theories of The Network Society and Opinion Leader. The results show a close-knit network pattern within the Social Media Network, which generated high enthusiasm and solidarity among netizens, especially in the Muhammadiyah cluster. This movement formed a large network of accounts from Muhammadiyah members, alternative media, Muhammadiyah's social enterprises, and Muhammadiyah's autonomous organizations. The Muhammadiyah anniversary was also marked by other popular hashtags, such as #Muhammadiyah (1149 tweets), #IkhtiarMenyelamatkanSemesta (796 tweets), and #MiladMuhammadiyah (465 tweets).
