Abstract

Malnutrition has an interrelated relationship with infectious diseases, where infection can occur malnutrition and can cause malnutrition in children. Children who infected with CMV need an increase in nutritional status, but with malnutrition, the recovery process and the body's immune enhancement cannot be optimal. This study aimed to identify the efforts to improve the nutritional status of children infected with CMV in Tegal, Central Java, Indonesia. This study was a qualitative study with phenomenological approach. The informants were parents or caregivers of the children infected with CMV. Data obtained through interviews and observations, which then analyzed through the stages of data reduction-presentation-drawing conclusions. Data were analyzed using triangulation methods. The results showed that the nutritional status of children after recovery of CMV infection had increased. That was because the informant always ensures nutrients needed even given using a soft texture and gradually increase to rough. The tendency of informants to provide the same food has the risk of increasing the deficiency of micronutrients in children. Therefore we need an effort to improve the provision of food variations in children.

Abstract

Among the interventions implemented to curb maternal mortality in the Philippines, service delivery networks (SDNs) have been one of the most important. However, due to their recent implementation, frameworks to assess the quality of care they provide have not yet been established. To address this need, we had formulated the Integrated Patient-Centered Health Service Framework and used it to explore the satisfaction of mothers who gave birth in select facilities Legazpi City Philippines. We conducted key-informant interviews with 14 mothers. We found out that they were satisfied with the quality of care during pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, and post-partum; however, the quality of care during labor and delivery, adherence to referral protocols, and respect for patient‟s autonomy can still be improved. The framework should be used by program managers to have a qualitative measure of quality of care provided by SDNs, as well as to ensure that referral protocols were implemented.

Abstract

The study seek to investigate the health seeking behaviour of undergraduate students in the University of Education, Winneba and their perception of health care services rendered to them at the various health centers in Winneba. The study sampled 540 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Science Education in the University and their responses where collected using a structured questionnaire items. Data collected from this study were analysed using descriptive statistics. It was evident that majority of the respondents (84.4%) never experience any illness whilst on campus. The few that experienced some forms of illness also did not visit the hospitals for treatment. Majority preferred pharmaceutical drugs for treatment. Other respondents also resorted to the use of herbs for treatment because according to them, herbal medicine is much effective, easily accessible and also do not waste time when one wanted to access them. The study recommended that students should make it a habit of visiting the hospitals in and around campus whenever they experience any form of symptoms and should not resort to self-medications which could have detrimental effect on their health. University hospital staff should also render faster services to students to make them have time for their academic work. Key words: Health, Students, Behaviour, Hospital, University

Abstract

Complications of hypertension account for 9.4 million deaths world wide every year. Evidences indicated that hypertension and elevated blood pressure are increasing partly due to increase in determinants. In Addis Ababa, there is limited information on determinants of hypertension among adults. Hence, this study aimed to assess determinants of hypertension among adults living in Bole Sub-city, Addis Ababa. Community based unmatched case-control study was conducted. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 122 cases and 244 controls. Data were collected using interviewer administered structured questionnaire and measurement of blood pressure, weight and height. Binary logistic regression model was used for data analysis. A total of 348 adults were included in the study with 95% response rate. The study showed that age (AOR=7.68, 95% CI: 2.31–25.48), average family monthly in come (AOR=6.39, CI: 1.60-25.55), family history of hypertension (AOR=4.50, CI: 1.14-17.62), body mass index (AOR=3.76, CI: 1.49-9.48), physical activity (AOR=3.66, CI: 1.21–11.07), tobacco use (AOR=8.99,CI:2.02-39.86), salt consumption (AOR=5.22, CI: 1.47-18.48), stress (AOR=5.18, CI:2.42–11.09), knowledge (AOR=8.82, CI: 3.14-24.72) and diabetic mellitus (AOR=8.42, CI: 1.44-48.97) were significantly associated with hypertension. Cases had higher exposure to risk factors of hypertension than controls. Age, average family monthly income, physical activity, saltcon sumption, diabetic mellitus, stress, tobacco use, body mass index, family history of hypertension and knowledge were associated with hypertension. There is a need to health education to prevent tobacco use, regular exercise, reduce salt consumption and other life style modifications to reduce hypertension.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is an infectious disease caused by the vector of the mosquito Aedes aegypti carrying the dengue virus with the fastest spread of the disease in the world. Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever have an increase of 1,817 cases spread in East Java Province. From 2012 to 2016 there were the highest cases of 214 cases in the Banyuwangi District. The purpose of this research is to analyze the weather against dengue hemorrhagic fever in Banyuwangi District in 2012-2016. Quantitative research is descriptive study using time series ecology study design. This study uses univariate analysis to provide an overview of the weather and the incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever. Statistical analysis used correlation analysis to obtain the relationship between weather variables and the incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever. The results of the study showed that the incidence of DHF occurred at the age of <15 years compared to the adult age of ?15 years. Correlation test results between weather variables including temperature (r = 0.339), humidity (r = 0.927), rainfall (r = 0.142) and sun irradiation time (r = 0.259) showed that there was a relationship with the incidence of DHF. Rainfall variable is a variable that has the strongest relationship with the incidence of DHF. The community can anticipate the prevention of dengue fever at the beginning of the rainy season and the end of the rainy season, by using preventive methods against mosquito bites using rapellent during the day.

Abstract

AbstractAs human population grows, so does the generation of waste including faeces, urine and rubbish consisting of plastics, heavy metals and glass among others. Improper waste management has lead to a multitude of physical, psychological and social issues which has direct effect on health of the population which is the main driver of the nation?s economy.Despite efforts by the government to advice consumers on proper rubbish dumping, sadly this tends to falls on deaf ears many a time. Even concerted enforcement has not deterred these so-called rubbish dumpers from carrying out their socially unacceptable behaviours. What is hope is that along with becoming a developed country in term economy driven investments and high income generation by the population, is that it is also important to take care of the environment which serve as a mother to all of us to nurture and nourish us, its? children till the end of civilization or doomsday.
