Abstract

Virtual labs using augmented reality (AR) applications have brought transformation in teaching laboratory courses. However, in the field of engineering laboratories, the use of AR applications is still new. In this work, a marker-based AR application is used as a tool that enables a hands-on learning experience of microcontroller study. The software used to develop this application are Unity3D and Vuforia. C# programming language has also been used to provide the command for the interaction between the interface and the application. After the development of the application was complete, it was tested by a group of electrical engineering students. Then, the students are required to fill out a survey on the system usability scale (SUS) test. The SUS score of this application is 62.5. It was found that the perceived usability of the evaluated AR application as a teaching tool for laboratory courses is acceptable. This response shows the marker-based AR application has the potential to be used as a teaching aid in engineering laboratory courses.

Abstract

In using technology, especially in health sciences, machine learning modeling can make it easier to predict disease treatment. Naïve Bayes optimization with AdaBoost is needed because even though Naïve Bayes has the advantage of minimal parameters, its accuracy is susceptible to too many features. AdaBoost is used to overcome sensitivity to an excessive number of features and optimize its ability to handle complex datasets. This research aims to analyze the classification results of the Naïve Bayes method with the help of the AdaBoost method. This data comes from Community Health Centers I, II, and III Mengwi District, Bali Province patient medical records. The classification process uses the Naïve Bayes method and Naïve Bayes with AdaBoost, which is then evaluated using a confusion matrix. Two scenarios were used in testing: Naïve Bayes and AdaBoost-based Naïve Bayes. The algorithm is implemented on the dataset and tested directly using cross-validation. The evaluation results show that the Naïve Bayes method experienced an increase in accuracy of 5.92% at 5-fold and 5.93% at 10-fold on a dataset with 890 data. The addition of the AdaBoost method to diabetes classification has been proven to improve the accuracy performance of the Naïve Bayes method.

Abstract

This paper presented the kinetic study of molybdenum borides via the Volmer-Heyrovsky-Tafel (V-H-T) mechanistic steps for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). A theoretical approach was carried out to investigate the kinetic properties of several molybdenum boride materials for HER in 0.5 M H2SO4. Our findings offer definitive proof that the simulated results show that B, Mo, Mo2B, and α-MoB, proceed through V-H mechanistic steps (slower kinetics) while β-MoB and MoB2 exhibit V-H-T mechanistic steps with higher kinetics. The kinetic parameters were determined in terms of the standard rate constant parameters for the Volmer step (kV, k-V), Heyrovsky step (kH, k-H), and rate constant for the Tafel step (kT, k-T). The simulation was able to predict the overpotential at 10 mA/cm2, η10 recorded at approximately 780, 585, 480, 350, 310, and 300 mV for B, Mo, Mo2B, α-MoB, β-MoB, and MoB2 respectively. Based on these findings, the adopted mathematical model shows good coherency to the experimental findings. The simulation work provides a good numerical estimation of the characteristics of the electrocatalyst for HER. This paper successfully elucidated the reaction mechanisms (V-H-T steps) and understood the rate-limiting steps involved in the HER process on Mo-B materials.

Abstract

Diagnosing diabetic retinopathy (DR) based on features that appear on fundus images is currently conducted through an eye exam by an ophthalmologist. Tracking DR progression manually is time-consuming and keen for a high-skill person. As the technology offered in industrial revolution (IR) 4.0, namely artificial intelligence, is shown to help in the medical diagnosis process, this study proposes an image enhancement algorithm based on a hybrid of contrast enhancement (CE) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). The proposed method incorporates contrast adjustment on the bright and dark region of LAB color space where the bright and dark region is initially segmented using K-mean PSO. 100 retinal fundus images are used for training and testing purposes. The proposed method undergoes qualitative and quantitative evaluation with a comparison between the two methods. The result indicates that the performance of the proposed method is more acceptable as compared to another two methods.

Abstract

The widespread demand for hosting application services in the cloud has been fueled by the deployment of cloud data centers (CDCs) on a global scale. Furthermore, modern apps' resource needs have sharply increased, especially in industries that use a lot of data. As a result, more cloud servers have been made available, resulting in higher energy usage and, ecological problems. Large-scale data centers have been developed as a result of the rapidly increasing demand for cloud services, allowing application service providers to rent data center space for application deployment by user-required quality of service (QoS). These data centers use a lot of electricity, which raises running expenses and produces more carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Modern cloud computing environments must also provide QoS for their users, necessitating a trade-off between power performance, energy consumption, and service-level agreement (SLA) compliance. We present an intelligent resource management policy using enforcement learning for CDCs. The objective is to continuously consolidate and dynamically allocate virtual machines (VMs). Utilizing live migration and disabling inactive nodes to reduce power consumption in this cloud environment while maintaining service quality. To enable dynamic resource management, a better power-performance tradeoff, and significantly lower energy consumption, we integrate several artificial intelligence concepts. Based on the result the proposed approach is more efficient as compared with other techniques.

Abstract

Wastewater contains a variety of heavy metals, one of which is cadmium (Cd) which causes adverse effects on both the environment and health. Coffee grounds can be used to reduce Cd in wastewater so this study aims to determine the reduction of Cd levels using coffee grounds. The type of research used is an experiment to see the decrease in Cd levels using carbonized and non-carbonized coffee grounds. The samples used were taken from the leachate water source at one of the landfills in Makassar City. Sampling was done using the grab sampling technique. The results showed that the use of uncarbonized and carbonized coffee grounds was effective in reducing Cd levels in Makassar City Tamangapa Landfill leachate water with an average decrease of 0.048 and 0.023 µg/L. Uncarbonized coffee grounds have a higher ability to reduce Cd in leachate so that it can be used as an alternative in the wastewater treatment process.

Abstract

To assess the appropriateness of the current by-product for application in building construction and to mitigate potential environmental risks in the context of environmental sustainability, a series of tests were conducted to determine the compressive strength properties of a material composed of glass fiber (GF) strengthened sugar cane bagasse ash (SCA). This material was made from SCA, blast furnace slag (BF-slag), and GF binding with cement. Cylinders were employed to measure the compressive strength of a mixture consisting of water and an SCA ratio of 50%. Cylindrical samples of 150 millimeters in length and 75 millimeters in diameter were utilized to evaluate the compressive strength across curing durations of 7, 14, and 28 days. The present study attempt utilizes mixture ratio percent of 0.15, 0.3, 0.45, 0.6, and 0.75 to perform compressive strength tests. The compressive strength of cylindrical samples ranges from 86.5-801.6 kPa. The density of a cylindrical sample containing 30% cement dropped from 900.1-865 kg/m3. The initial tangent stiffness of the sample ranges from 66-630 MPa. The findings suggest that it is possible to achieve a material with acceptable strength by using SCA ash in combination with BF-slag, strengthened with GF.

Abstract

The idea of an addition chain can be applied to scalar multiplication involving huge number operations in elliptic curve cryptosystems. In this article, initially, we study the taxonomy of the addition chain problem to build up an understanding of the problem. We then examine the mathematics behind an optimal addition chain that includes the theoretical boundary for the upper limit and lower limit which laid the foundation for experimentation hereafter. In the following, we examine different addition chain solutions that were used to increase efficiency in scalar multiplication. To avoid any possible confusion, we intentionally separated the discussion into two modules called integer recoding method and chain generator based on the heuristics method. These methods were developed by considering various aspects such as the space within which the operation is executed, the curve that is selected, the formulation to express the original equation, and the choices of operation and arithmetic, all together to improve operational efficiency.

Abstract

The swift advancement of mobile intelligent terminals and services enables users to seamlessly access ubiquitous services across global mobile networks. Ensuring the authentication and safeguarding of the privacy of network entities is crucial. Numerous authentication and privacy schemes have been put forth over time, yet many of them have faced security and privacy challenges. A recent contribution introduces a lightweight authentication scheme (LAS) designed for roaming services within global mobile networks. They assert that their scheme offers user anonymity, mutual authentication, fair key agreement, and user-friendliness, claiming resilience against various attacks in global mobile networks. This paper, however, identifies two design flaws in the LAS and highlights its vulnerability to two masquerading attacks and a mobile user (MU) trace attack. Consequently, we propose a privacy-preserving LAS tailored for global mobile networks. Our analysis demonstrates that the proposed authentication scheme is secure and delivers enhanced privacy with efficient performance.

Abstract

The recent implementation of solar photovoltaic (SPV) power generation in low-voltage distribution networks has increased due to its environmentally friendly technology, low cost, and high efficiency. However, SPV generation carried both the availability of uncertainty and intermittency on power energy exceeding voltage range, increased losses during reverse power flow action, and energy transmission problems. This paper presents a new capabilities methodology with accurate analysis to simulate the intermittent nature of SPV energy including normal generators associated with uncertain customer demand of high resolution with 1-minute temporal resolution using a fast iterative process algorithm (FIPA) simulated by Python programming. The primary goal is to address the unpredictable nature of SPV using computer operation technology connected to a real network with a fast iteration process. The result shows that in 0-10% of standard generators, grid energy (GE) is still required in daily supply, and the intermittent nature influences voltage violations and losses. Besides, the prediction typical SPV method (zero fluctuation) can serve as guidelines for engineers to design the photovoltaic (PV) module reducing its fluctuating nature and battery installation area. The research provides utilities with accurate information to plan for various difficulties at different levels of PV penetration while reducing time, effort, and resource utilization.
