Abstract

Patient satisfaction is an essential indicator of the quality of nursing care, particularly among individuals undergoing hemodialysis treatment. This literature review aims to identify the determinants influencing hemodialysis patients' satisfaction with nursing services. Literature searches were conducted through PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate for articles published between 2021 and 2025. From a total of 2,967 articles initially identified, nine studies met the inclusion criteria. The analysis revealed two primary factors significantly associated with patient satisfaction: nurses' caring behavior and therapeutic communication. Caring behavior includes empathy, attention, support, and the ability of nurses to meet both physical and emotional patient needs, while therapeutic communication refers to professional interactions that build trust and enhance patient understanding of the care process. Both factors were found to improve patients' perceptions of service quality and promote adherence to hemodialysis treatment. This review highlights the importance of strengthening caring competencies and therapeutic communication skills as key strategies to enhance the quality of nursing care in hemodialysis units.

Abstract

Cancer in children presents a major global health problem, impacting not only the physical condition of pediatric patients but also causing significant psychological and social challenges for both the children and their families. Effective communication between nurses, children, and families is essential to ensure quality care, support psychosocial adaptation, and foster active involvement in decision-making. The study design used literature review. This literature review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL (EBSCO) databases, focusing on articles published from 2014 to 2025. The inclusion criteria were English-language articles discussing nurse communication with children aged 0-18 diagnosed with cancer, with nurses as the main communicators, and full-text availability. The findings indicate that nurses assume multifaceted roles not only as providers of medical information, but also as emotional supporters, advocates, and key facilitators in multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Communication approaches identified include tailoring information to the child’s developmental stage and cultural context, validating emotions, and employing active listening, open-ended questioning, and reflection. However, nurses face considerable barriers such as limited time, insufficient communication training, unclear professional roles, emotional burden, and systemic challenges within healthcare settings. Therefore, there is a need to improve communication training, enhance institutional support, and develop policies that encourage multidisciplinary collaboration and a work environment that supports effective communication. These efforts are expected to strengthen the role of nurses in providing holistic, adaptive, and family-centered care in the pediatric oncology setting.

Abstract

Nurse performance is a crucial determinant of healthcare quality and patient safety. Beyond clinical competence, contextual factors such as organizational climate and leadership styles play a crucial role in shaping professional outcomes. This study aims to synthesize empirical evidence regarding the influence of organizational climate and leadership on nurse performance and to identify the mediating mechanisms between these variables. A narrative review was conducted using a systematic search strategy across four major databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Google Scholar. The search was limited to articles published between 2019 and 2025. Following the PRISMA guidelines, a total of 213 initial articles were screened, resulting in 7 articles that met the inclusion criteria for final thematic analysis. The thematic synthesis identified three key themes: (1) The role of organizational climate in well-being and retention, (2) The impact of leadership styles on performance, and (3) The mediating role of organizational climate. Findings indicate that a supportive organizational climate is significantly associated with reduced burnout and increased intention to stay. Furthermore, transformational leadership was found to be the most effective style for improving patient outcomes, whereas toxic leadership negatively impacts retention. Organizational climate and leadership are fundamental determinants that simultaneously influence nurse performance. Effective leadership cannot function in isolation; it requires a supportive organizational climate to optimize nurse engagement and clinical outcomes. Management strategies should focus on creating a synergistic environment that combines visionary leadership with a constructive work atmosphere.

Abstract

The prediction of medication nonadherence among patients with T2DM can be improved in accuracy and speed using machine learning (ML). This study aimed to develop an ML model to predict the risk of medication nonadherence among patients with T2DM. Methods, inclusion criteria comprised English-language, open-access journal articles published between 2020 and 2025 that developed and validated ML–based prediction models, including ensemble methods, gradient-boosting models, SVMs, and neural networks. Exclusion criteria included review articles, non-English papers, studies published before 2020, studies lacking prediction model development or validation, and studies using only traditional statistical methods, such as logistic regression. The article search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. Prediction Model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST) to assess the methodological quality and usefulness of the qualified studies. This narrative synthesis examines the characteristics of ML-based prediction models, their performance, and the factors that predict adherence among patients with T2DM. The papers were sourced from various scientific journal databases. The results show that cross-sectional and cohort studies were among the research designs used in the five papers reviewed. The AUROC of the internal test was 0.782, and the AUROC of the external test was 0.771. The learned-feature classification model achieved an average accuracy of 79.7%. Among these algorithms, the AUC of the best-performing algorithm was 0.866 ± 0.082. The SVM classifier outperformed the others, achieving a recall of 0.9979 and an AUC of 0.9998. The conclusion indicates that predictive capacity is influenced by clinical metrics and the number of prescribed medications.

Abstract

The quality of healthcare services, particularly inpatient care at Community Health Centers (Puskesmas), is a key determinant of patient satisfaction. Although the Minimum Service Standards (SPM) target satisfaction above 95%, surveys in Indonesia show that satisfaction rates at Puskesmas remain in the range of 76–82%. This gap indicates the need for an in-depth evaluation of service factors. This study aims to analyze the relationship between five dimensions of service quality (Tangible, Assurance, Reability, Responsiveness, and Empathy) based on the SERVQUAL model with the level of satisfaction of inpatients at the Ngantang Community Health Center, Malang Regency. This study used a quantitative design with a correlation approach. The sample consisted of 39 inpatient respondents. Data analysis used univariate tests and Spearman's Rho correlation bivariate tests. The overall level of patient satisfaction was in the high category, where 90% (35 respondents) stated Satisfied. The results of the bivariate correlation test showed that only the Assurance variable had a statistically significant relationship with the level of patient satisfaction, with a p value of 0.032. Meanwhile, the dimensions of Tangible (p = 0.626), Reability (p = 0.843), Responsiveness (p = 0.301), and Empathy (p = 0.874) did not have a significant relationship with patient satisfaction (p > 0.05). There is a significant positive relationship between service assurance and inpatient satisfaction. This dimension, which encompasses the competence, friendliness, and credibility of staff, is a key factor that needs to be prioritized in efforts to improve service quality.

Abstract

Extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) presents a formidable challenge, often exacerbated by irreversible structural lung damage and severe malnutrition. Roy’s Adaptation Model (RAM) was employed as the theoretical framework to address the profound physiological and psychosocial disruptions in a high-complexity case. This report describes the integrated, nurse-led management of a patient with XDR-TB and destroyed lung syndrome during the acute stabilization phase. A 39-year-old woman with a decade-long history of TB treatment failure was admitted to a national referral hospital with XDR-TB, profound cachexia (BMI 13.96 kg/m2), and severe hypercapnia (pCO2 94.7 mmHg). During a 72-hour acute stabilization period, integrated nursing-led interventions including the Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT), therapeutic positioning, and a high-calorie, high-protein regimen resulted in marked clinical improvement. Respiratory stabilization allowed for oxygen weaning from 5 to 4 L/min with an SpO2 increase to 97%. Breaking the catabolic cycle was evidenced by weight stabilization (maintained at 35 kg) and a positive metabolic shift, alongside significantly improved oral intake (80–90% of requirements).. Functional status progressed from total bed rest to independent short-distance ambulation without desaturation. Comprehensive nursing interventions, focusing on airway clearance and acute metabolic stabilization, play a pivotal role in the rapid stabilization of complex XDR-TB cases. Highlighting outcomes within the first 72 hours demonstrates that structured nursing care acts as a catalyst for physiological adaptation, even in the presence of severe anatomical lung destruction.
